| Mail thief caught on video (RS Beat down crew assemble?)
our neighbourhood in south Burnaby (close to brantford elementary school) today got hit by a mail thief, several houses (myself included) were hit around 2-3pm, mainly going for packages.
one house managed to capture the thief in action here: https://ring.com/share/6598229923222863643
We reported this to the police and am going to speak to the Canada Post mail delivery man to not leave packages exposed in the mail box, just wondering if RS knows or recognize this guy, time for some vigilante justice?

Does it matter even if he is caught? I mean the punishment is so light most likely they just schooled him for not doing it again.
There are literally no punishment that would deter criminals away. Unless there are more punishment this doing nothing. The guy most likely got release within a few hours and is planing where he should steal mail from.

True -- in our revolving door legal system, the guy is almost guaranteed to not see any meaningful consequences.
I also do not believe punishment would effectively deter criminals / perpetrators of this nature. If anything, counselling and social support would probably be more effective. But even then, those measures are, IMO, also hugely ineffective, although they are more effective than punishment. They are also hugely expensive too.

He might already be on parol and a new conviction can also void any terms he has previously, giving a heavy sentence. That’s very much circumstantial though and mostly anecdotal

Then again, if capital punishment is doled out even on crimes as petty as this, we'd be seeing a lot more violent crimes in society. If you're gonna get killed for committing petty crimes, you might as well just go big and do something that'll net you a much bigger return.

tip for people who order online often, try noting in the notes of your order, "DO NOT SAFE DROP" or "LEAVE CARD FOR PICK UP"
do not safe drop means they usually wont leave packages at the door without someone grabbing it.
card for pick up usually means they'll leave a card for you to pick it up at the closest post office
