| feedback on coffee catering at car meets
*mods, please let me know if this is outside of the forum guidelines and I'll remove this thread
Hey guys. As some of you know, I offer mobile coffee catering with my classic mini. I am hoping to do some 'market research' in preparation for next year's spring/summer car meets.
If you guys have time, do you mind filling out the following survey? https://goo.gl/forms/OuB76poqQ5AEhD132
Thanks! |

That said, I’ve also catered at smaller events doing pour overs and batch brew. It all depends on what the event organiser wants and at what capacity.
So yes, “catering” can mean reselling bottled drinks from somewhere else. So my survey is trying to see whether people want more options at car meets.

Thanks! | - cars and coffee events can have 100-200 people there, if not sometimes more on a beautiful day. It’s early in the morning, people want their coffee
- almost every one I’ve gone to offers free coffe and donuts (whether sponsored or by donation)
- they have canopy, table, 2-3 people staffing it etc
Could you compete with all 3 of these points? I’ve been going to morning car meets for a decade, these 3 points have been at almost every single one

You should probably talk to the event organizers first before piggybacking off them.
Most of the larger events as 320icar mentioned already have free coffee and proceeds are directly donated either to the Vancouver Food Bank or North Shore Search and Rescue.

When I think of catering, I imagine the caterer providing the actual commercial kitchen made food and drinks. What you're doing is essentially being a 3rd party reseller of 49th Parallel's cold brew.

This is usually the case with desserts, drinks, etc.

Hey, if you want to pay a markup for that then go right ahead. I could care less |

Hey, if you want to pay a markup for that then go right ahead. I could care less | So if your choices are to have a marked up coffee at a meet, or get in your car and drive to the store, leaving the meetup to buy your own coffee that hasn't been marked up, you'd do the latter? You'd rather waste all that time and gas and camaraderie just out of principle that the person didn't brew it themselves that day?
Wow. Go right ahead I guess |

Don’t all places selling things just mark up other people’s products?
You guys are savage, hope everyone is as “kind” to you guys when you start your own ventures. So much for the word community.

I’d be damn happy if someone sold coffee and it saved me 10 steps. Especially a Tim hortons alternative.

Thank you to those who have filled the survey!
I should clarify that this is a side project based on my interest in attending car meets and making specialty coffee. The revenue from my previous events pretty much only covered the cost of gas and products I need to purchase (coffee, cups, milk, etc.). My goal is not to make $14 an hour, rather it is providing a drink or snack for people to carry around during a car meet during those hot or cold days. Furthermore, I will always be communicating with the organizer(s) for permission because it also gives me an idea of the number of attendees and specific products they wish to see.
My car and service by no means will be able to provide range of products as a standard food truck. Hence, that is why I am using this survey to understand the drinks and food that are desired at car meets. My capacity is aimed more towards smaller car meets (20-30 cars) where coffee and snacks are usually not offered. With more significant events like Revscene's Summer Meet, it will be more suitable for conventional food trucks. Although I wouldn't mind being a supplement to these trucks to serve people pour overs or bottled water (which are two of the top three choices so far in the survey).
Thank you again to members who took their time to fill the survey and happy holidays!

If there was a Diet Cokemobile at the car meets, I'd be all over it. Dat shit kept just above freezing and $50.00 for an all day refills card would be awesome. Of course, hot chicks in bikinis serving drinks under a large tent, complete with palm trees on the sides is a given, lol.
If a Pepsi truck shows up, imma gonna fire a missile at it before it makes it into the parking lot.
Since the above never happens, I never go to the car meets. I think I went once about 9 years ago. Just once, to say hi to Saucywoman, Lomac, and Orgasmic Donor.
BTW, Merry Xmas, RS.

For the record, I'd pay for a nice cup of coffee over the free Tim Hortons at a meet. I'd still put money in the coffee fund though for instance when its going to a good cause like NSR at all the carbs and coffee meet.
I wouldn't be interested in bottled cold brew coffee though. I'm much more inclined to support someone who is bringing some effort in brewing there, or making something themselves than just a reseller.
I can only speak for myself though. It means a lot to me to support small businesses, but they have to be putting themselves into it.
That said though, don't expect many people to feel that way. I just really like good coffee, and really hate bad coffee.

I guess a lot can be solved by the caterer simply brewing their own cold brew and bringing it to the event, or brew Japanese style iced coffee at the event |

I really dont have anything good or bad to say about this, I'd probably buy an iced coffee at a meet from you.
But I am curious, isn't a Mini kind of the worst possible car for this type of endeavor. I mean I understand that your likely just working with what you have, but I mean, I could probably haul 5 times as much coffee as you, and still have room to fit the scantily clad babes MG1 wants to serve him...
In conclusion; you should buy an FX for this venture...
