Update: Police will allege the mother of a four-year-old boy filmed riding on the roof of a car on a Perth Highway for about 10 minutes neglected to properly restrain the child.

Security camera footage obtained by Nine News shows a boy in nothing but a nappy clinging to the roof racks of a car being driven by his mother.

The incident took place at around 5.45pm on Friday on the Tonkin Highway between the suburbs of Camillo and Harrisdale.

A spokesman for WA Police told News Corp Australia a 36-year-old woman is assisting police with their inquiries.

He confirmed there were two other children in the car but they were properly restrained in their seats.

It’s believed the mother was unaware the child was on the roof of the moving car.

“Other motorists managed to get the attention of the driver who stopped and placed the child in the car before driving away,” the police spokesman told News Corp Australia.

Canning Vale Police responded to reports of the bizarre incident and located the Holden Captiva driving into a petrol station on Nicholson Road, Harrisdale.

“Police observed three children in the car, two secured in child restraint seats however it will be alleged that a four-year-old boy was unrestrained.”

Witnesses told the Nine Network the boy was oblivious to the danger he was in.

“The child seemed fine and looked like he was enjoying himself,” a witness said.

Other witness said they felt “sick to the stomach” after seeing the boy on the moving car.

My son just turned 4. I would be pretty damn upset with his mother if that were to happen under her watch. I totally get how hard and stressfull parenting can be. No one is perfect but some parents really need more help, guidance, and support. Still...:

As a dad its one of those: "That's my boy!" moments for sure. I bet he had a blast up there. Glad he was ok and hope he will only have good memories from this.

That mother is irresponsible.

Not even Mainlanders would put their children on top of the luxury cars.

They would just buy an exotic car for the kid when they are old enough to drive.

Being Australia, he's probably safer up there than anywhere else.

anyone remember back in days some white parents would let their kids drive by letting them sit on their lap and then let them hold the steering wheel while driving in a neighborhood block

this is a whole another level

^ I used to sit next to my dad on the bench seat and run the gas pedal in traffic/on the highway when I was not even a teenager!!! I even got him a speeding ticket once, you can bet your ass he didn't tell the cop I was the one pushing the gas.

I cannot imagine what was going through his head to let me do that... or letting my own kid do it (if I had one) hahaha

I remember standing up in the back of my dads ‘72 Chevelle doing donuts in the snow when I was around 6 years old. Now that I think of it.. I’m gonna take my kids out for some fun in the snow if/when it happens. Kids ought to experience stuff like that with dad.

It was really about growing up in an area, and an era.
I had a couple of Asian buddies from Cloverdale when I was growing up that were better rednecks than I was. They had dirt bikes, 4x4s, and good looking white girlfriends. My Indo Canadian pals were just as gnarly, except they always had nicer shoes. And really, isn't that what it's all about? Nice shoes, and hot girls.
