What if you were confronted and you acknowledged you stole the spot because you didn't realize someone was already waiting, and you didn't care and you didn't give up the spot?

Because that's exactly what happened. My buddy confronted the guy, he said too bad so sad. If you were my buddy, what would you do at that point? IF he was younger he would have started a fight, but he's older now and knew a fight would not be appropriate. So he did what he thought was just.
