The S.O. and I are going to Kauai at the beginning of September 2019 and we were wondering if you fine folks had any suggestions in regards to where to stay?
We will be there for seven days.
I was thinking of splitting the nights up into three days in the north, four days in the south or west, would this be advisable?
Been there twice..its aweome...There is a public beach by the Aulani Disney resort. I took my kids and you pretty much have the whole beach to yourself. Its a really neat spot
Do a Helicopter tour, this is the best Hawaiian Island to do it at.
We went in 2009 and it was my favorite island (been to all the main ones)
Na Pali Coast (Copter tour or if you're insanely fit, Kayak)
Kalalau Trail (muddy as fuck but amazing views)
Waimea Canyon
Hanapepe Art nights
Poipu Beach
It's so green everywhere you'd think someone turned up the colour saturation in your brain.
One thing to note though: during a hurricane many years ago a bunch of feral roosters were released upon the isle. The result being crowing at all hours of the night (not just early morning). Not sure if this is still an issue or if you can hear it at resorts but at our B&B it was annoying a sfuck
Where to stay, I would stay at the south coast near Poipu that way you'll be in the "middle" of everything. The island is like a circle but the road only goes 3/4 of the way around the island (NW corner is the Na Pali Coast)
So one helicopter crashes in Hawaii therefore you shouldn't take any helicopters? Sheesh I guess you shouldn't rent a car either because car accidents are endemic there as well. The video is from Honolulu, not Kauai btw.
Stay south if you want sunshine. I’ve been there for 3 days on two seperate occasions this year.
Napali coast may be still closed for hiking in September (huge storm last year) but if not helicopter or sailboat tour is a must. I did the hike ten years ago and it’s is utterly amazing.
I did the hike from Waimea canyon to the coast last week and it is a sight to see.
Renting a car is a must, and bring some hiking shoes. It’s a quiet island and you have to make your own kind of fun.
Latest food find is Avalon gastro pub. Pretty laid back, almost hipster vibe pub. But the food is on par with some of the best food I’ve had in Vancouver. I think I had a rack of Lamb (birthday treat) and it was amazing. Have yet to try just a burger. It is a pub afterall.
always a lineup at that spot...both the waikiki and honolulu locations.
I prefer the poke in foodland by the mall.
Poke at Foodland is OG, but it's completely different than Marakame. Depending on your mood, but my fav is the mussel poke at foodland, that was my favourite!

For the Na Pali coast, do you enter from the North or from the South?
The kalalau trail seems to enter from the Northern point, is that right?

Will you experience similar effects with a hike or should we hike it and take a boat tour? We generally don't like boats and would love to hike, is hiking it just as amazing?
