I get like 4 a day at the house and since it's a landline I can't block them. I got like a ton on my phone too but you can block them easily enough.

Anyone know how to stop these assholes ? The recording is always from some so called bank and then when you hit 1 you get transfered to a live operator. I've been just hitting 1 and then waiting for the motherfucker to say ni Hao and then blast them with a airhorn

I got a VoIp home phone so I can just login to the system to block number. I am out most of the day anyways so when they call no one pick up.

They have been clogging up my voicemail. Unfortunately if i block them on the phone, they are able to leave voicemail.

man.. these spam calls are becoming relentless. Sometimes I get 3 back to back calls from different numbers all with the same garbage. Blocking the numbers seemingly does very little as they just spoof different numbers.. I hope they all go to hell.

Our store gets them multiple times a day offering things like a 150K loan. My cell phone now is starting to get them. it's fking ridiculous. Call blocking does not work because they are spoofing numbers.

The worst part is that if you own a business, they can spoof your number too. So I've gotten angry calls from people thinking I called them, but I have no idea wtf happened.

Jesus..so I literally open my phone to off-topic here and I’m just about to click this thread to complain about the FIVE calls I got 2 days ago, and as I’m moving my thumb to click a 1800 number pops up on my phone speaking Chinese.. what in the fuck

Shit is getting baddddd

In the US, they now offer Apps that block these calls but they also charge $5/mo to subscribe to them.. I know Verizon has this feature. Not sure if they will implement in Canada.

I’ve read that if you block the phone number 000-000-0000, it’ll block all calls with no caller ID. I did that a few weeks ago and I think it’s working. I still get a ton of spam calls, but those all show a phone number. The weird thing is, sometimes I’ll answer the call and hang up right away, but the caller never calls me back. It’s almost like all they want to do is annoy you.

On my VOIP options I've blocked unknown and international callers. On my android phone, I blocked unknown callers. I've never received a spam call since.

Get someone to block their number and call you. I've tried blocking 0000000000 on iPhone but it doesn't work.

Would love to find a solution to stop people who show up as "No Caller ID" from going through.

my folks insist on keeping their landline in 2019 because it's bundled and has international minutes

99.5% of the calls are spam, dont know why they put up with it when they're savvy enough to use internet telephony

been getting much less spam calls on mobile in the past 6 months for me (koodo and t-mobile)...i rarely put my phone number down when filling out forms

The feature in shaw's landline would be perfect!!! Log in, turn on the feature and all blocked numbers get told that the call cannot go through.

try doing what im doing, press 1, wait for that dumb fuck to come on the line (usually with the wei, ni hao) and then fucking blast him in the ear with an airhorn. I get immense satisfaction doing it.

i also tried to whisper whisper, and the guy's like what what? cant hear you, and then i blast the airhorn.

These fuckers somehow got the number to our office's intercom system - 30 people had to sit through "ching chong Ling long" blaring throughout the entire office because the physical machine was locked in the server room and the guy was out sick that day.

Our Chinese manager looked like she wanted to crawl into a hole lol.

I just got a text today saying "claim your Fido refund here: (some BS link that looked ridiculously fake)". I specifically ditched a landline over 10 years ago due to spam and telemarketers. It's hard to fathom how bad it's gotten recently. Business lines are even worse with the "Is the business owner available........."-type calls. Combine those with the annoying recorded messages and well over 50% of calls are BS time wasting scams. There was even a Last Week Tonight episode about how bad it is in the U.S.

Remember the recorded message that paused when you said hello, then kicked in again to try and make you think it was a real person for a moment. I feel like the creativity is gone now. Lol!

I've been getting these fxxking spam calls as well -- both on my cell and at my work number. I have no idea how they got my work number. It's fxxking annoying as hell.

The call usually starts of in a Mainland Chinese accented English, and usually say something along the lines of "This is HSBC blah blah blah", and after a short while, switches into speaking Mandarin.

A friend had been receiving these calls as well, and she was feeling bored enough one day to play along with the guy. She identified herself as "Winnie Xi" in Mandarin, a well-known play / nickname on the Chinese leader Xi Jinping. The caller picked up on the joke, acknowledging her as the "country leader", but somehow continued to BS with her. After a few minutes, the guy said he would get into trouble from his boss if he stayed on the phone for too long, and then he hung up.

The problem is, our parents continue to operate on the thoroughly outdated mindset that they somehow *need* to have a landline because it gives you unlimited talk time while the cell phone charges by the minute / seconds.

-received two of those scammer calls today. I must say that they are getting creative with the call sources: Indiana state and Aldergrove.

-pressed 1 and asked Mr. Ni Hao "Is there a White Castle in Indiana?? Where's my burger???". Hung up the phone. :lawl:
