If you guys are not watching this, you're missing out BIG TIME. This is the best show on TV right now and way better than GoT S8.
It's an HBO mini-series (5 episodes) and it's absolutely brilliant and terrifying at the same time about the Chernobyl nuclear disaster.

Yea great series so far. HBO’s production is just off the charts.
Kinda softened the blow of the wack GOT finale.

Yeah amazing show. I was looking more forward to Episode 3 of this show than Ep6 of GOT, and it delivered.

saw the trailer.. can you give a brief background?
based on a untold true story? but is it horror? documentary (don't think it is)...

Do you know much about the event?
It’s basically a dramatized version of events. However the characters and whatnot seem to be all based on the actual people involved as far as I can tell. I have quite a fascination with the whole event and have watched countless documentaries etc. and it seems to line up very well

If you're interested in Chernobyl, I remember way back when well before any social media sites existed reading this lady's blog who regularly would go into the fallout zone on her motorcycle... not sure if she's still around or has like 3 eyes or something, but it was pretty great stuff at the time:

Binged the first 3 eps thanks to this thread. Great watch.
Didn't have time to binge and only finished the first episode. I felt that the episode was a bit long and that it could have been squeezed a bit shorter but overall I enjoyed it

i can't remember how i stumbled upon the trailer but i was instantly captivated. growing up, you would hear the name chernobyl and some details but have no true understanding of what took place there. this show has been excellent so far.

Definitely one of the best series I've seen in a while. It's eerie and entertaining since they based it off of the real life event that happened in chernobyl.

3 episodes in and loving it so far. Great production, great acting. The naivety and down play of the event is just mind boggling and the show does an amazing job of portraying it.

I missed the mini series part :lawl:

it's insane that they had to resort to using human beings to clean up that roof. it looked like their protective gear was a joke too. scary.

I could have done without the 10 minute storyline about the dog killers and the unnecessarily graphic imagery. My gf was beside herself.

That was rough to watch.
As soon as Bacho mentioned the task to Pavel at the camp I was praying that they left it at that. But as soon as they switched back to them pulling up in the truck, I knew it was going to be a LONG night :tears:

If you dig around through some documentaries you can see the actual footage of the roof cleanup. Must have been absolutely insane

I binged watched this with my wife this week.
Enjoying it, it's horrifyingly good. But... why couldn't they get the actors to do Russian accents? :-(

Imo that’s more hoakey than just having them speak English

i love dogs more than most people and yes, it was very hard to watch. it's actually something they did back then according to history. today, some of the descendants of those dogs have survived and are still roaming around chernobyl. they can even be adopted now!

they explained that it sounds comical when they do that accent so they chose to use the british accent instead.
