A few concerts are already sold out. Billy idol is for sure can’t remember the other one.

Picked up my free tickets for living in the hood, what a shit show after waiting for 25 minutes I became “that guy” who struggles at the front of the line because they don’t accept property taxes as proof you live there :/

You need to prove you actually live in a house within the proximity. So any regular bill would have been fine, I was just stupid and brought my property taxes which doesn’t guarantee you live there I guess

Grew up next to the PNE before they had this, but mum still lives there.

I haven't been to a PNE Summer Night Concert in 5+ years, before reserved seating was really a thing.

How hard is it to get a free ticket in the morning? And if you have a free ticket, what time do you actually need to show up to get a decent viewing angle for the show?

Hondaracer
06-12-2019, 02:38 PM
Free tickets are done for the average person.

Popular concerts people are lining up at 10am to get the tickets they hand out at 5-6

It’s either reserved seating or the beer garden

Good to know. I remember seeing Kevin Costner and his band play at the PNE a decade ago. We were just able to walk up and watch when it started, not that many people. Seems like it is a whole different ball game now.

Yeh I picked up 3 Billy Idol tickets for me and 2 friends about 4 weeks ago. Another friend tried to buy a ticket 2 weeks ago and the tickets were all sold out.

I loved the Doobie Brothers concert 2 years ago with the summer sky as a backdrop. My all time favorite show was Hall and Oates about 6 or 7 years ago!

Unless you like watching through the shrouds over the fencing, no.

The beer garden where the dueling pianos is plays the live feed and the music over the speakers, which, imo is a better scenario because you can be drinking while watching

However, even the beer garden fills up/lines up quick when big acts are on

Parking..............hmmmmm...........

What's the going rate these days?

In the past couple years I've seen $10 being pretty common and even as low as $5. Attendance has really gone to the shits so parking on private property have not been as busy as before therefore the prices tend to be lower now. With that said, prices will fluctuate because on the odd really busy day it'll go up to your traditional $15-$20. There are also plenty of free spots in the hood which have been easier to come across in the past couple years. Obviously along Hastings if you are early enough, around the perimeter of AR Lord elementary which is quite massive. I also started noticing a few years ago people discovered a bunch of free spots in a particular lane adjacent to a house that according to the bylaw if you read it seems perfectly legal. I've attached a picture of the location but YMMV.

I've been quite shocked at the attendance actually having lived in the area fore the past 12 years I got multiple times a year because of free tickets and last year was oddly quiet. The first time I went was on a weekday with decent weather, no rain at all and not too hot. I kid you not there were zero lineups for anything the entire time I was there on the PNE side.

Wife's grandma used to do it and I will say when attendance was still fairly solid it was the easiest money you could make. On average each house has 2 spots to sell @ $20 a pop for literally 5 mins of work and if they leave half day you get a 2nd round x 2. That's $80 a day for 10mins or less of work times 2 weeks each a nice banquet dinner. Those times however are gone, you actually have to stand out there for a while now and may not even get 1 car.

Does anyone know if they still have those Beast refillable cups this year? My red one is three years young, but looking a bit worn out. It’s time for a new one. If they don’t anymore and the new cups are a funky, useless shaped one, then I’ll take my old Beastie with me on Tuesday.

Yeah, I went yesterday I'd rather just pay the $20 and not take that outside chance that the person doesn't even live in the home they are selling spots for. I ended spending over $300 for the day, $10 isn't going to make a hill of beans difference either way.

Yea, from a money saving perspective the difference isn't even huge + I rather be closer if I had a choice especially if you're lugging around little ones as well.

Especially when some of them live no where near where they are standing lol

Have heard and seen stories of the elderly people selling their spots right off Renfrew and then when they bait somone in they take 10 minutes to walk up the back alley guiding a car halfway back towards nanaimo lol.

If you want to park for free and walk, anywhere within 2 blocks of nanaimo is generally open and under 10 minute walk. Don’t worry about the permit signs, there are no permits

Last year you won $100 if you could do it. We sat in the beer garden and watched literally hundreds of people attempt it from your biggest jacked buddy guy to lean ripped yoga types and no one could do it, probably fucking raked in the money

Now if you do it you only get a fucking large plush toy :/

best time to go imo. always slow in the first couple of nights and no line ups for anything

i always go for the 2nd time with a big group instead of just being my girl and the last week if brutal.... so many fucking people and unbearable. Everyone goes last minute because they are panicking that its closing in a couple of days

I had gators brisket, beef ribs and pork ribs with bunch of buddies. Would go back just for them! Dont forget to get their version of mashed potatoes for $2 on the side, good portion.
I also tried their new beer this year from parallel 49 collabs with PNE, nice and light wheat beer much like hefeweizen. But you can only get them from the parallel 49 beer truck nowhere else. I think it is close to the market place / festive area

Anyone finding this years PNE a major disappointment from years past?
The exhibition this year was some lame ass wall paper back drop for photos/selfies. Not sure why PNE thought this was a good idea to attract people, the entire forum was dead as fuck too. It took no more than 2 minutes to walk the whole thing. The overall crowd this year was noticeably smaller too.

I tried Henry’s chicken earlier today and I left disappointed. The chicken was dry. No wonder why there isn’t a like up for it.

I’ve noticed this year more and more food stands are doing cash only.

Oh man, we ate Henry's Chicken as well. I usually find their food to be somewhere in between decent and not good.. but this year it just sucked. $17 for a 1/4 chicken combo or $22 for a 1/2 chicken. They did load up the fries though.

Tried the butterbeer icecream too, didn't really like it. Taste like mild caramel icecream to me.

Pickle cotton candy kinda weird, bit salty. But the sour cream and cheese foot long fries tasted pretty good, really crunchy, but the cheese just taste like the nacho cheese from 7-11.

I tried something from that Red Velvet Doughnut place. It has cream cheese in it or something like that. It was pretty good. The asian lady there was a little grumpy, but if I looked like her, I'd be grumpy, too, gulolol.

went this year... got free tickets to go so why not.

went at 7pm and left at 9pm. i found it very disappointing this year compared to others. Food was pretty bad. spent most of my time at the market place and even then wasn't very interesting.
always have to have those mini donuts

Food was that bad?
Anyone else able to give their opinions on some of the new stuff they have? I'm gonna end up there later today and was kinda curious about that pickle pizza and flaming hot cheeto corndog. The hotdog stuffed in a giant deep fried pickle is delicious.

I went yesterday, it felt underwhelming. It's almost as though if you're not going for one of the shows, that you plan to spend a couple hours at, its not even worth it. May as well go to Richmond Night Market.

The rides seem all run down to me, they don't even function like they used to. Music ride is just a few fast spins around, no proper hype person any more, or the covered area where your screams echo; Hells Gate, no more water features, lights are burned or not working, doesn't do any of the same flips it did before, feels more like a kids ride than anything; Crazy beach party just swings side to side now like a big pirate ship, again no lights, and it doesn't rotate anymore. I remember when there was so much hype around these rides when they were first introduced.

At least they still have my favorite thing to eat at the PNE, buttered corn on the cob!
