Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) has said that it has captured a British oil tanker for breaching international maritime law while crossing the Strait of Hormuz.

The IRGC’s Public Relations Department said in a statement on Friday that the vessel named “Stena Impero” had been confiscated “at the request of Hormozgan Ports and Maritime Organization when passing through the Strait of Hormuz, for failing to respect international maritime rules.”

The oil tanker was transferred to the coast to undergo the required legal proceedings, the statement added https://www.presstv.com/Detail/2019/07/19/601353/Iran-IRGC-British-oil-tanker-strait-of-Hormuz

It was released..
Iran said they seized the tanker in the Strait of Hormuz, through which 20 percent of the world's oil passes, for alleged violations including turning off its tracking devices to avoid Iranian forces and colliding with a fishing boat, said Al Jazeera's Assed Baig.

"Many people saw it as retaliation for the seizure of Iranian tanker off the coast of Gibraltar by British royal marines that had taken place two weeks earlier in July," Baig said, speaking from Tehran.
