So far so good. Only problem is I can't get LTE where I work but there is wifi there. Other than that, haven't had a problem yet. I'm sure it won't be as good as Koodo's but the plan is too good to pass up. If I stuck with Koodo, I would've paid $470 upfront for the XR plus a $15 tab charge. So $65 a month for only 4 GB and 500 anytime minutes. :heckno:

Are there any decent plans which eat upfront costs on new devices any longer?
Wife and I are both on that scam “$60/10GB” plan which is now like $148 per month as it magically went up on its own, so when the new iPhone is released I figure I might as well go back on a term contract to get 2 new devices as opposed to spending 5G’s up front and staying on these stupid 10gb plans..

So I'm stuck on an old legacy plan with 2GB for $45 on Fido. Any ideas on how to get a better deal without changing providers? I've called 2 times now and told asked to speak to retentions, threatened to leave, etc. Both times been stonewalled and had the agent shrug their shoulders when I tell them about deals from Freedom or when I tell them I'm going to leave.
I'm not really going over my 2GB limit since I'm on wifi all the time but it would be nice to be bumped up to 4 or 5GB at least just in case.

Youd think fido would wanna keep you for a matter of an extra 2gb lol but companies are weird. I'd keep trying retentions and just telling them youd stay if they can just bump you 2 gigs , as 45$ for 4gb or better is pretty decent on plans these days, specially for a "better" provider that's not the big 3

Anyone familiar with Chatr (Rogers) or Public (Telus)? After being on Wind/Freedom contracts for years, I went with their prepaid plan a few months ago, but 1.5 Gigs isn't cutting now that I'm in a different line of work.
Public and Chatr have similar $40 (4-4.5 gig) and $50 (8-8.5 gig) plans, but the Chatr plans are promos, subject to change at any time, with 2 and 6 gig standard with the rest as bonus data.
Leaning towards Public. Freedom doesn't seem to offer anything beyobd the 1.5 plan.
Fongo

Need some advice ... So right now I'm on a Bell flex iPad plan (apparantly it doesn't exist anymore). 5 dollar maintenance fee, and just pay for however much data you use. This was a great deal for me when I didn't live here full time and was traveling back and forth and used as needed. Now that I have moved back full time though, not having an actual number is a hassle especially since my building buzzer system sucks when using fongo.
Realistically, I rarely use phone/text because I just whatsapp / messenger everything. So what's the cheapest, data heavy plan? Any particular deals going on right now ? Thanks in advance!

Connection wise Public is the same as Telus and Chatr is the same as rogers. They save money on cutting things like customer support. Public is all on line you can't call in if you have a problem.

^I honestly haven't needed customer support for anything cell phone related in 17 years that I can recall. I do prefer brick and mortor customer service and physical copies over downloaded content or online purchases.
*On another note, I have found a phone locally of the current generation for sale, which was purchased off ebay and seems to be locked to AT&T. The seller has been unable to get it unlocked and 3rd party stores have told her it's too new to have unlocking software written for it or something of that nature. The price is heavily discounted compared to similar phones. Is this worth looking into or is she or whoever buys it SOL?

Was on a $49 5gb Quebec plan for a while until Koodo found out (more so of the call center overseas) I didn't have the correct plan and locked me out for getting future contracts.

IPhone? Probably not worth the time and hassle to try to get it unlocked. 3rd party stores are either using software cracks, or getting the unlock on the side like https://www.engadget.com/2019/08/06/man-charged-with-bribing-att-staff-to-unlock-phones/ I think us unlock rules are more restrictive than Canada's.

While Freedom didn't not say if their data is all going to LTE or 4g or 3g. Also their coverage isn't the greatest. Even some area in Van you lose connection.
I rather pay a bit more and go with Fido.

School me on the networks.
Currently with Rogers been with them for 4 years I don't currently have a contract, paying for 3 phones. Service is really bad in my area, I have a 8 minute drive home and there are at least 3 dead big spots were I'll lose calls and I can't use my cellphone anywhere in my house without wifi calling, basically service is just shit in my area.
I was with Telus years ago reception was always great no matter where I went.
Fido is on the Rogers network?
What services run on the Telus network besides Telus?

I decided to go with Public so I went into London Drugs to purchase the sim card, bring my number over from Freedom (effectively cancelling my plan), and purchase the plan.
I mentioned to the girl I wasn't sure if my LG G6 is locked to Freedom, but she didn't seem concerned. At the end, she puts the Public sim card into my phone only to find out it is indeed lockex to Freedom. She wasn't able to unlock it and suggested I call Freedom's customer service (not sure how she expected me to do that without service).
I decided I would drive over to the very Freedom store where I originally got the phone, and to do some other needed shopping. The store was unable to unlock it and told me to call customer service. I used their phone to make the call, gave my IMEI, and they said the phone was not in their system and asked if I was sure I got it from them. Eventually she gave up, escalated my call, gave me a reference #, and told me to try calling back within 10 days.
So I am without any service at all right now. The phone is locked to Freedom, with the Public sim card in the phone waiting to be used.
I don't know what to do at this point, other than drop $$$ on an unlocked phone, which I really don't want to.
Is Freedom not seeing the phone on their list because it was purchased on a 2 year contract (paid off and ended in May, prepaid plan in my name after that) by my ex gf and not in my name? Is it because the girl at London Drugs didn't check before transferring my # from Freedom? Or is Freedom just dragging their feet, dicking me around, so they don't have to unlock my phone?

Shouldn't matter about contract/prepaid. Freedom has to have some kind of inventory system to know which phones are their's. Girl at LD has no way of knowing or access to Freedom to check unlock status. IF she did test the phone and it wasn't, she loses the sale. Phones sold in Canada after Dec 2017 are all unlocked. She may have just assumed.
Likely it's the latter, Freedom dicking you around.
