Snowden released a book last week. I plan to read it in the near future. Not unexpectedly the US government sued him and the publisher the day of release.

I recall conversations about privacy on this forum where there was a large camp declaring “nothing to hide”. I think he does a great job in this quote of addressing that position. The world has also given us a lot to think about in recent years.

You chose a good quote to share. More people need to realize how pathetic such a stance is.

It feels like the moment you log on to the internet for whatever reason, personal, business, pleasure you waived all rights to privacy.

Also it seems like there's a data breach every few months, it becomes almost common practice.

so whatever came out of it? did anything change or now its gone back to pre-snowden days? Trump changed internet traffic laws aswell maybe not related to this but still.

We need right to forget in North America as in Europe.

Snowden’s on the Joe Rogan podcast. I just started listening to it and he starts with a great introduction of how we got to where we are. Here’s a quote that underlines my interest in the topic.

“We were constructing a system of turnkey tyranny. And even if you trust that to Obama there’s no telling who’s hand is going to be on that key next. And all they have to do is turn it. And there’s nothing we can do to stop it. The only thing that’s restraining these programs is policy more so than law. And the president at any time can sign a napkin and those policies change.”

He was fantastic on JRE. Too bad there's not a bombshell big enough to stir people enough to stand up to do anything against it. Everyone's too busy shouting at eachother.

So much for this improperly collected data being used in a “targeted” manner, or passed off as “metadata”.
