No more netflix and chill...
Decrease in FB / IG post... cause one one is posting vacation pics anymore.
Significant drop in flirting / dating in person interactions.
Cooking skills are going off the charts nowadays, guess depending what age group.
Reality check on never living beyond their means.
Anyhoo, those were a few that came to mind.
No more sports other than motorsports.
I hope there's an after. Lots if viruses have no cure, just imagine if they never find a cure for this? How long do you wait before you close up the movie theaters, clubs, restaurants, casinos, schools.
I think the biggest thing is every one that is currently affected by working in hospitality will be reconsidering their life choices and what kind of job/career they want after coming out of this. That means you're going to have people that work in hotels, restaurants, travel, cruise ships, and taxis looking for a change because they know it's not dependable.

I expect technologies will develop more, also the demands for jobs as freelancers and working from home type. There is no turning back when 5G is in full activation, either we like it or not.
Hopefully, Canada will create more jobs for their own Canadian citizens. Its getting hard for myself to compete with more experienced foreigners within my industry :(

Depending on how things go China might not be the global centre anymore, but it doesn't seem like countries are really pushing that

- There will be more pandemics in the future, so governments will incentivize domestic production of key medical supplies, such as masks and other PPE
- Businesses that don't already have remote working or functioning e-commerce will be forced to adapt.
- There will be a demand among those who have the means for larger homes that have spare bedrooms that can be converted to office space, have outdoor space, etc. As employers become more flexible with working remotely, there could be a demand for larger homes in the suburbs, especially along millennials with children.

You raise a good point. I wonder if the trend of urbanization will be partially reversed by the increasing availability/acceptance of working remotely, at least in certain sectors. May breath new life into some towns that are shrinking.

The whole selling point of densification and urbanization was to trade living space for public space, such as parks, and entertainment such as restaurants, cafes, theatres, and other venues designed for lots of people. Well, many restaurants, theatres, and other types of businesses that are found in dense neighbourhoods are not coming back because governments do not have the ability to subsidize every business. We are going to see significant economic restructuring and perhaps a significant rethinking around land use also.
The enthusiasm around public transit use in the Lower Mainland is in danger and people who have the means will likely opt to commute using their cars in the medium term.

That means you're going to have people that work in hotels, restaurants, travel, cruise ships, and taxis looking for a change because they know it's not dependable.
Saw this on Global news, 3 taxi companies stopped operations. COVID19 killed the monopoly market (a good thing), on the selected few who charge an arm & a leg for drivers to pay back the license fee.
- There will be more pandemics in the future, so governments will incentivize domestic production of key medical supplies, such as masks and other PPE
HK learned their lesson from SARS, BUT what happened when the news broke out. first 5 years, they kept the projected amount on hand, then 7, 9 12 yrs later, supplies on hand kept on decreasing. I don't blame them as there are burn rates / expiry on them. We are afterall humans... and out of sight and out of mind... budget kept going down.
Specific industry manufacturing will return to Canada...
Obama talked to Jobs, and Jobs said at the time said, it's done, once its been sent over to produced oversea...it won't ever come back.
-Wework will shut down, as well as 30% of office space rental will once again exit and realize you don't need a real office ever since this covid19.
-Will streaming service ever be the same? Netflix said a huge boom in subscription, but a sign decrease in advertising.... not that amazon + Netflix can't produce anymore films... people will start running out of content to watch.
*what about p0rnn?????? are they filming new p0rn right nowww

I think groceries will change a lot. More people will want to get delivery/curbside pickup and I feel like people will be less inclined to take a minimum wage job as a cashier knowing if shit hits the fan they're considered essential front line workers getting exposed like crazy.

Less inclined to take a minimum wage job? I don't think anyone is inclined to take a minimum wage job they take it because they need it. Believe it or not a lot of people are happy to still have a job to go to rather than sit at home wondering if they even have a job to go back to after the dust settles.
Is this the new normal? I understand the government needs to prepare a hell of a lot better medically in case this shit happens again but let's be honest, this isn't something you expect to happen every 10 years. If that's the case were fucked. Small business are done, no one will invest in that cause why the fuck would you knowing you're non essential. No one wants a min wage job in retail. Nanaimo Walmart just installed a bunch of self check out lanes I bet do to the fact they cant find people to work. There is a big shortage of min wage workers. Go to any fast food place and you will see they are hiring and most of there staff are imagrants.

I disagree. If history is any indication, this is not the first pandemic and is unlikely to be the last. If anything, the frequency of pandemics could rise going forward. Hence, as some others have suggested, I also believe were gonna see a "reconfiguration" of how we go about "working", so that in the future when a similar situation arises, more businesses are better equipped for business continuity purposes. Hopefully, our health care system is better prepared the next time around as well and that greater synergies are created spanning different government levels so as to have better coordination during times of crisis.

I’d imagine there will be a lot of new inventions at the end of this. Not necessarily for pandemic/health situations nor from people who consider themselves as inventors.
This situation has given some people extra time to think on their own outside of the day to day rat race. I would guess some have let their creativity out.

Have a feeling Huawei hardware will get implemented in Canada. At the very least, partial use for non-security related items.
If anything the new normal will likely create more divide than anything. People will be re-evaluating priorities including careers and lifestyle, landlords if when the eviction ban gets lifted will likely seek out tenants with a more stable income, and businesses will be more cautious with their spending as well which will slow down economic recovery.

Crime rate will go up (already have) and as more people look to protect themselves they might go out less during night time, or more people might take self defense class, some might even start buying weapons to put in their cars carry with them (pocket knife, Pepper spray and maybe even guns in their house).
Gov will raise tax to pay off all the promise they been making (guess we can all see our income tax, property tax and carbon tax goes up again). People will be a lot careful with their spendings and small business will have a much harder time to operate/recover. People will less likely to travel aboard on vacation and a lot of airlines won't be able to stay in business unless gov bail out. Housing market is going to crash with a good % landlord saying fuck it I am going to declare bankrupt coz tenant aren't paying rent and landlord can't evict them and they can't pay their mortgage. There will even be less rental housing on the market.

I'm having a bit of a hard time understanding why one needs to:
1. Purchase weapons (i.e. knives, guns etc.)
2. Take self-defence classes, or some form of training meant to hurt someone else

I certainly hope this won't happen but in the States people are buying guns and ammo like crazy. I recall a news station was interviewing people lining up outside a gun shop and some point have been in line for hours and hours. Some first time buyers as well and people who normally won't buy a gun is jumping on it. Mostly people are saying they are doing it to protect their family. With so many people out of a job it might be bad enough to turn some of these people to rob someone out of desperation. Luckily we are in Canada and so far it seems OK but a lot of stores in Vancouver have been broken into (4 to 5x) more. That's why you see in DT stores have boarded up front entrance and the windows to prevent break ins. Now is it just homeless breaking in, teens just doing stupid things or the desperate. We don't know but is very real. After this is all over a lot of people are going to be out of a job, have to take a lesser paying job or even do part time. Their income will b greatly reduced but bills have to be paid.

This is the part I also don't understand. Grocery stores are being cleared out of canned goods (it's better the past few days) and a few of my colleagues are hell bent on eating the canned foods they bought. I look around at fresh produce, meats, cheese, seafood and it's all perfectly available. I do my grocery shopping once a week (you know, Whole Foods and shit because hipster) and things are fine as it is. I have maybe two cans of luncheon meat in the pantry for those days I want to make an HK breakfast, but that's about it. I'm not going bonkers over it. The best part is seeing people run out of the stores with cases of bottled water . :fulloffuck:

Our two daughters actually joined so that makes 4 of us with only 3 bathrooms.
The 5 y/o just had salt and pepper wings but it made him feel as though he participated as well
I have that but I got used to it... lol... I've stepped it up to crushed Carolina Reapers for everyday use but the hottest I have is called Meet Your Maker Retribution sauce. Came in a little black coffin... 7+ million scoville, I haven't opened it... don't dare to... and the bottle has a nice wax seal
Wow.. got used to Da Bomb... I’ve had much hotter in terms of scoville units that don’t compare with the evil contained in that tiny jar.. maybe it’s just the taste though too. Evil hot garbage lol.

I think the lesson gov needs to learn is not to rely on other countries/nations to provide essential products when you need it (PPE, food) you need to make your own country is able to produce them and also I can see more people buying local produce groceries and to support local restaurants. One thing I read is that a lot of countries is stopping the export of grocery (grain, rice, vegetables) out to other countries so grocery might see an increase is price overall for the next little while. I also read Africa is having food shortage issue as well due to locust swarms

canada has been notorious when it comes to sending away our raw materials and buying it back as finished products. we definitely need to be manufacturing more of our own shit.

Right on!
I can't believe we aren't manufacturing more finished products. We have the resources. With disasters occurring regularly, companies that manufacture safety equipment and whatnot need to start popping up. There's a real need.
Aging population - start making shit they need right here.
Forest fires - start making equipment and develop technologies needed to help fight the fires right here.
Diseases popping up every month now - start making PPE right here.
Global warming - come up with viable solutions right here.
Polution - develop bio-degradable containers right here.
Food shortage - develop ways to harvest and grow crops more efficiently right here.
The list goes on. The forest industry, natural gas, ocean products. Hell, if we have an overabundance of predatory species of fish, like mackerel, the natural enemy of the salmon. Find ways of promoting the consumption of them. Or find other uses, like fertilizer............. oh, I know. Spread a rumour that Mackerel found off the coast of BC has magical healing powers and sell that shit to the people over there (you know where).
Anyway, easier said than done.

a prime example is selling our water to Nestle for dirt cheap and buying it back as bottled water
aren't we basically giving it away for free? like $1 for the sake of a transaction?

The last time I checked Nestle was paying more than other industrial water users though. The issue should be how cheap we're selling it to everyone, not just them.

It's a giant topic of discussion all on it's own. Anyways, that was just one example. There are plenty of things that Canada sells as raw materials rather than manufacturing (thereby creating jobs/industry) and finding ways to profit from them.

I could see more people ordering stuff through the internet even grocery shopping.
I haven't try it but any people have started using online options buying grocery. Is great for them but I still like the option of picking my own vegetables and meat. I did however started buying shoes online which is something I never done before because I want to try them to see of the for or if I need to go size up. So I can put rely on camera and review to get a picture of the shoes comfort and the size. Good thing shipping is free and is on sales otherwise I wouldn't have done it.

I imagine Rogers Arena will have alternating empty seats between each spectator. Same for every sporting event and movie theatre in North America. So seating capacity in Rogers Arena for Canucks games will be 9455 instead of 18,910.
But before that, there may be empty arenas for hockey for a while.

2 feet apart really isn't all that different from shoulder to shoulder when they're saying 6' min for social distancing now.

When able to resume, professional sports will likely be played without any spectators in the arena, and live streamed for fans to watch.

How does every owner make money if no ticket sales? Charge for live streaming? I could see this happen for a full season at least.

Yeah maybe you should try it rather than skirting your 10 day self-isolation to shop in public.
Asshole.
