Anyone here have experience with these two programs by H&R Block? Do a lot of people use these?

Thanks!

Posted this in another thread but figured it might be good here.

I bought an activation code for StudioTax that allows up to 20 returns. Suffice to say that I won't be sending that many returns even if I do everyone in my immediate family.

RS Special: Anyone using StudioTax can PM me and I'll send you the code. Just let me know how many you'll be using so that I can keep track and then remove this comment when it's gone.

Annnnd all gone. Hope everyone got in while they could. Maybe we'll see you again next year!

I use an accountant. One man shop; office at Parker place. Super legit as he's on the radio talk each week. The fact he has an office and not a shady home office was key.

Maybe cause it's covid but man he's super on the ball when it comes to emails.

Lastly, when it comes to pricing, much better than freaking h&R block and when I ask him a questions, at least he answers! I'm not even sure if H&R block people are certified or accountants at all.

maybe i'm an old fart, but I do need good advice. I was on EI thsi yr and not sure if i shoudl bank bigger rrsp this yr or next yr. H&R block wasn't able to give me a solid answer or even give good insights on what others are doing. They are just paper pushers.

I remember one of my ex gf mom using them. This was like 13 years back at that time and I think they were charging like $100 bucks for a basic return.

I get it, not everyone knows how to use computers or could be scared to DIY, but their charge kinda steep for a basic return (which should takes max 1-hour if anything).

I think it depends on where you see your income to be in the next year or the future. If you expect your income to be higher in a future year, make larger RRSP contributions for that particular year.

Generally, when people are on EI, their taxable income is only a fraction of the regular pay. The lower income would mean a lower marginal tax bracket which diminishes the power of RRSP.

In short: Income high? make RRSP contribution high

You could buy RRSPs in the first 60 days then decide how much to use when you actually file for the previous year or push forward to the next year.

My idea of a basic return is 15 mins max if that. T4 + RRSPs + maybe a couple donations

I use Ufile.ca.

Even if you're not comfortable, most tax software nowadays allow you to link your tax information with your Service Canada My Account. So you can literally pre-fill your tax return based on the information the CRA already has on file from your employer's T4.

https://www.canada.ca/en/revenue-age...it/tfsmk7.html

It couldn't be any easier nowadays, there's really no reason to use anything such as HR Block.

It's people like my parents who aren't capable and not yet at retirement age...

these are the people who are not tech savvy and appreciate just a face to a name. Eg// London Drugs, Future Shop + H&R block, you shoudl see the $$ people spend when they are there.

Happy to pay $150 for H&R block just so they won't need to touch an iphone / cpu.
