2021 PNE
Never thought this would happen, but it looks like they are going for it.
August 21 to September 6.
Now, I went to those special drive through days (doughnut and fair food events) and they were offering free PNE passes for whenever the fair opens again. I wAnder if they are going to honour it. I haven't had any e-mails about it.
Anyway..........

Pumped! Wonder if the hood is gonna get free tickets again as per usual
Will try to go as much as possible to try and support them. Hopefully scaled down doesn’t equate to some shitty half ass fair that leaves people with a bad taste
Just called Ticket Leader, the people who're in charge of admissions and ticket sales. I was told they will email those people who participated in the events of last year as to how they can redeem the free passes.
Yay!
Superdogs, my favourite Lumberjack Show, For the Love of Drag, lol.....
Anyway, here's more info on what's lined up for this year.

I miss the PNE so much, I'm even going to go into the Agridome for the first time. Frick, I hate the smell of shit and farm animals. I'm a city slicker, mang.

Scared for your hot or not rating though :hotbaby:
I hate to say this............... but I don't like beer. But Big Terry likes it...........

Have to purchase tickets for a specific day. Might actually be nice - quieter than usual without all the crazy crowds.

That was my first thought but I didn't want to be a pessimist. The site will probably crash when I try and purchase tickets and then they will be sold out. 50 bucks a ticket on Craigslist. SeemsGood

Nice. Completely forgot about these as I took my family last year through the drive through as well...
I went back and looked at the email and it appears to say opening day 2021 only. Hopefully they allow more than just opening day.

I have this feeling they are going to be scrambling.Quite a few people went to those events. How the hell are they going to make it work? It can't be all in one day with reduced numbers and all.

This! And when it goes poorly, lots of other scenery to check out instead LUL
No specific dates. Just log in, cross your fingers, and hope for the best. You'd figure they'd give the people who supported them last year a special day to redeem their passes ahead of the masses................ masses with passes...........nvm. I'm a poet and I didn't even know it........that I was that bad of one.
EDIT:
I meant to say, a special day to exchange their tickets.

yup, right there in the quoted text.
I'm hoping for a weekend, so I can go with my family. If I'm not mistaken Mondays are a day of rest, 'because the PNE was not created in a week? Black Sabbath. Now why in hell would you take days off when you're forced to limit attendance? Perhaps a really good reason. Well, students get their summer job opportunity. That's a good thing.
EDIT: I may have assumed too much. Days off are not on all Mondays............. need to do more research. Off to the laundromat.
Yay! Woo Hoo! Fuiyoh! Praise Allah! Jesus Saves! Happy Hunnukah!
Just exchanged for 4 free passes. All days were available at 9:55 am this morning. Printed out the tickets. I'm good to go. I don't give a flying frisbee if it rains, snows, or lightning hits. Imma going to the PNE. Gone every year at least once. Even last year, if the drive thru's count. All I want is a new refillable "Beast" cup. My old one is about to spring a leak. Yes, the small things in life is what keeps me going.

Ever go to the adult nights where it was 19+ to enter? Walk around with beer, no kids yelling and screaming, barely any lines, and not have to worry about the conversations we have knowing there isn't a 5 year old behind us listening to the crap we say and then repeating it to their parents who are sitting beside them.
Will there be concerts this year?
Didn't see anything on that. I'm holding out for this bad boy 90s Nostalgia Tour (https://90snostalgia.ca/)
PNE opens tomorrow. I have tickets for Sunday. If any of you are going on Saturday, can you let the rest of us know what to expect? I'll do the same. I received an email from them letting me know there are no in and out privileges.
The Marketplace is outdoors. Hopefully under good cover. All of a sudden, it's sounding pretty shitty. However, I'm still looking forward to it.

Daughter wants to stay for the pyro show? fireworks? My sons will be gone in under an hour, lol. Anyway, with no in and out privileges, that's gonna suck.
Gotta take my seniors nap, cot dam it.................at least twice. There's no bingo, either. Maybe casino. I wAnder if Hastings Park Casino is part of the PNE, gulolol. I'd be "in" for that.

It’s very busy and very scaled down. Basically appreciate it for what it is and support this year so it can be back in full capacity next. I’d say 3/4 of the rides are available. Lots of kiddy rides etc. The big shows such as super dogs is in the amphitheater where the demolition derby used to be.
We are a 5 minute walk to the gate so we will come 5-6 times just to eat and drink but I’d say if you live in Surrey/Langley and pay for a family to come out it’s somewhat disappointing.
Lots of food options and gambling is still here lol, hit dat 10 to 1 with $5 down

Was nothing special. Same as always only less people which still seemed like a lot but that's probably because it was the first day. If you're adamant on the whole social distancing thing this is not the place to be lol. Out of all the rides we went on, which was basically everything multiple times, we only got delayed once when the ride had to be shut down for 10 minutes so everything could be sanitized.
I hope I don't have a daughter one day... The 12-16 year olds there need a smack on the back of the head. One who was in front of us was bragging to her friends that she had stolen some vodka from her parents and mixed it in her water bottle and all her teeny bopper friends thought she was bad ass. Some of them wear clothes that you'd expect to see a 20+ year old in a club wearing. Overheard a group of 3 girls dressed like hookers talk to their friends in the same line up but a bit further away so they had to speak a but louder than normal.. Those 3 girls were boasting how they put respectable clothes on when they left home and then took them off when they got to one of their houses so their parents wouldn't see them like that...
Games are all cashless and the prizes arent that great this year. Market place was mediocre at best. Managed to watch the superdogs but their website says 5:30pm whereas its actually 7. Prize home was horrible. Its like walking through an empty room with some ikea furniture and pictures on the wall of what it would look like. Challenger map piece was a let down. I thought it would be a lot bigger than what it was. Seemed like a 15' x 15' section and I've no clue where that section of the map was from.
Would I go back again this year? Probably not. Unless I was in the area and wanted to pig out on some food, which even then was average.
Hotdog shoved in a pickle and deep fried was an okay corn dog. Bacon wrapped foot long hotdog was meh, perogies were okay, chow mein was meh. Ate more donuts than I probably should've.
Got my fix for the year.

^ we grabbed a bag on the way out from the one closest to the “green gate” they were pretty good I’d say, almost on par with the classics
One thing that really pisses me off snd is a huge mistep for them is they have these fucking 75 year olds serving booze. Like Jesus Christ the guy takes 10 minutes to serve 2 beers when there’s a 8 group lineup, gets you to pay first, waits for that, pours the beers. Like booze should be a priority in service speed :rukidding:
I’d say mask usage was about 15% or so? While the capacity is much lower the size of the total area is also much smaller. It never really felt overly crowded though. Pics from the 7pm super dog show:
https://i.imgur.com/fqRLXhU.jpg
We brought my niece who is 3 to go on some rides etc. And it seemed pretty overwhelming to her because she’s never really been to an event like this with so many people as she really doesn’t know much more than the covid world lol

I'm just a bitter old mid 30s grump who has a severe pet peeve of 14 year olds dressed like club rats. It was a good night overall. I'm just not as into it as I once used to be and had such high hopes for food and a great marketplace which was a bit underwhelming. Had it been pre-covid it would've been spectacular. Perhaps it's the excitement of seeing 10,000 people crowded together all having a great time and being part of it. Just didn't feel that way last night.
I’m watching, sort of, the lumberjack show. Everybody seems to be enjoying it. I’m way at the back listening to the Jays lose in extra innings.
Big, burly men with chainsaws sweating it out, ftw. All white cast. :troll:

great quality and its nice that the mop head is removeable so you can wash it. I've had it for over a year and have had zero issues and worked perfectly. I bought it off amazon for $23 in an open box and it arrived mint.
I’ve had mine for two years, too. It’s in great shape. Bought it for $19.97 at Superstore on Boxing Week. It’s still unopened. I bought a small Bissel steam cleaner thing and use that instead. You think your floors are clean, until you steam clean it. Anyway…………

The CinCin donuts I thought were pretty good although I can''t remember what the OG ones tasted like.
They had two BBQ stands including Gator. I deeply regret not trying the colossal onion... again.
Marketplace is smaller and weaker, animals were the same as they always were, Superdogs was entertaining. The lumberjack show was quite entertaining.
Only half of the games were open and were card only. The ride pass definitely wasn't worth getting with the Woody down, Corkscrew gone and Hell's Gate down. I don't think the Log Flume ride was running either.

But man, I feel old.... I remember back in the day of going to PNE, I would probably be posting about all the hot chicks in summer attire.. But, now.... I'm all about the marketplace and finding the best mop to mop my floor. SIGHHH

2 for 1 deal entry for today if anyone is interested. Details are in the link.
EDIT: So far the deal is still good as of now, even though the site mentions a limited number of tickets as of 8pm. I guess next Tuesday would look the same in terms of ticket sales.

Went today, was not normal PNE busy, definitely didn't seem as busy as I heard it was this past weekend. Nothing to report that hasn't already been said. Toned down version if the regular PNE. Smaller footprint means less shit but I've been going basically every year my entire life so really it's just tradition I go. Plus its also for my kids now too. One and done, wouldn't go again. Had I come for rides I would have left disappointed as all the good stuff wasn't even available including the log ride. Ah wells still good overall all things considered just come in with reasonable expectations.

Went with my daughter and another family last weekend.
Marketplace was maybe 1/3 of what it normally was. Nothing interesting, years past I could easily spend over an hour in the market alone. This time I was in and out in less than 15. It's currently inside the other half of the barn.
Somewhat disappointed the individual ride tickets were sold out by early afternoon. I just wanted to buy 4 tickets to take my daughter on a simple kiddie ride which didn't have a line-up.

Went last night with the wife. Used our free tickets from last years drive through donut event.
I was sitting on one of the benches eating my BBQ chicken and across from me was this girl eating her Dole Whhip and her boobs were popping out of her top. Hmmmm breastsssss...
Went into the animal area and saw a lot of Surrey special looking girls.
Definitely agree, lots of teeny bopper girls dressed like they are ready to party.

No more Vancity days for card holders right?
It's $10 to enter after 9PM, can't recall? We live fairly nearby and just wanna roll through for food.
I saw this before, was too afraid to buy it cuz it didn't look that great, but i'll give it a shot now. thanks
i don't think they offer this anymore, not this year at least. it's advanced tickets only, so book online or by phone
Just got an email that they're doing $7 after 7PM for those that are interested. Sounds like they're doing worse than projected.

Has anyone gone to PNE this year? Last year was scaled back quite a bit, didn't enjoy as much (wasn't a whole lot to check out - half the area was closed off). Debating whether to go this year.

It’s pretty meh.. they moved the tent with the dueling pianos up to an open air area by the main show stage by the food etc.
Bbq was pretty good but I feel like as a whole it’s fallen off ecen compared to the Covid times..

I know the wife took my eldest last Friday. It was fucking deeeeeead like deserted dead. Which for my wife who hates crowds just as much as me loved. Absolutely zero lines for everything and they practically had the place to themselves. Nothing new to report, same old same old. Honestly, if the mother in law didn't live by PNE and we got free tix and free parking we probably wouldn't go half the time. Missed some proud dad moment though, kid who's 8 beat out a bunch of adults on some game and won the large doll. Also did some bow and arrow thing and went all Legolis from LOTR on it.

I went on Tuesday of last week and it was decently packed.. I was surprised for a Tuesday but I guess kids are still out of school.
Superdogs was great, Peking Acrobats was meh, BBQ was good, had my first colossal onion after years of being too full at the end of the day to get it.
Missed the dive show but it was a lot lower than I was led to believe.
The market is the same; you get bored of seeing Pink Stuff, massage chairs, and knives every year.
A bunch of game stalls were closed. Pineapple Dole float was pretty good @ $6.
We spent 6 hours there somehow though.
We'll go next year because it's tradition and we can load up on fair foods but apart from that, meh.

which rides were closed?
I went on Sunday and it was pretty full. Everything on the PNE's website is a lie. No in/out privileges. Um, they had the hand stamps out. Can't bring this, can't bring that........... nobody was checking. BTW, BCAA, plus seniors discount - win! I don't do transit, but Fridays are 2 for 1 if you have a compass card....... something like that. Public Transit? yeah, right...............
Chicago was surprisingly good. I enjoyed the Pryro show. Dancing was meh, but it was good, free entertainment. I think I was the only person on site with a mask on, but whatever............ bathrooms were filthy as usual. You had to wade through pools of urine. Make sure you roll up your pant legs and wear waterproof boots before going in.
Got the usual colossal onion, which I could only eat half of. Took the rest home. Nothing like cold fried onions drenched in Tonkatsu Sauce at three in the morning.
You can only watch super dogs so many times before it gets sickening (I've been to one my entire life, and wasn't impressed). Peking dancers......... nope. I was hoping to see the pep band, but missed them somehow. Got a couple of bags of Tom Thumb Doughnuts (that was their original name, me thinks). They're only good for about five minutes.
Overall, it was good. I can say I went this year. I don't think many people can say they've been to the PNE as many times as I have.

drop by on sunday as well.... didn't see you in the sea of ppl MG1.
Rides were very long waits so we waited til near the end of the day for the ride lines to be shorter. Good thing my ride pass was a comp or else i would be pissed to spend so much money just waiting in line.
watched the usual super dogs and also the peking dance show. grab donuts from that original mini donut place, was alright. taste like all the other donuts.
didn't see a lot of freebies this year like the years before.
I found paying for food, the tips were pretty high starting, on some of the food places.
do you guys usually pay for the tip or just skip for food at the fair?

I press skip for sure, they're not serving me or cleaning up after me and the food is overpriced as it is

Was there for about seven hours. Parked at the race track. PNE is making a killing on parking alone.
Tips? Damn, I just kept tapping the credit card without looking.
I spent too much time gambling at the casino (loose term) tents. I do miss playing bingo at the PNE, lol.
My son and daughter seemed to enjoy the PNE. Nothing like when they were toddlers. Now they're taking the old man out to the PNE. I want grandchildren, damnit!!! Then, my life would be complete.

Definitely in some cases it feels fucking ridiculous. That said I've been having the opposite experience recently. Just started golfing at Fraserview and ate there for the first time the other day. Sort of cafeteria style but not really. You walk up to the counter and order, they give you a number and you go sit down somewhere and they'll come with the food later. They also pick up after you when you leave so really it's a full on restaurant it's just that they don't come to your table to take your order but close enough. I was fully expecting the tip option when I was paying but there wasn't. Now maybe because it's run by the City they don't do it I have no idea. They do have a tip jar though and on my way out I left a $5 and they were super thankful.

I went the weekend it opened. Shit was disorganized as hell. They ran out of ride tickets at lunch time, or they ran out of quotas for the day, I'm not terribly sure. The crowds were manageable, left at 5 because kid was getting tired.
This is why I never go on the first day or the first few days, unless it's free admission day (remember those?).
Booths aren't set up properly, people scrambling left, right, and centre.

There's WAY more food trucks and options this year then prior years. I love how you can walk around with your alcohol now, no more being tied into the little beer garden.
Had my Henry's Chicken (the best), smashed burger from SIRIUS. We grabbed a Colossal onion as well but couldn't finish the damn thing, too salty and oily, felt like shit after.
Those corn fritter donuts sucked by the way, big disappointment there. Stick with the OG ones.
