Looking for a sous-vide machine.
Look at an instant pot. It has a Sous-vide function built in. No need for a separate container. Also Air frys and pressure cooks. Paid $99 for mine last year. The only downside is the size of the pot.

Looking for a 3.5" 6 to 8TB HDD, as well as a 2.5" 4TB portable HDD.
Cheapest I've seen so far is $189 for an 8TB last week, and $150 for a portable 5TB this week.
I'm still torn between whether I should pick up an e-scooter during the BF sale. While I certainly want one, they seem to be a PITA with inner tire tubes popping far more frequently than I'm used to see with bicycles. And then they are a PITA to work on...

This is fantastic monitor and is an all time low for price. Last year when it was on sale for $450/500, there were huge delays in delivery where some people didn't get theirs until Feb.

Looking to get into the smart home tech for my apartment. What do I need to get this set up going? Complete noob on this. Main thing I want is for bedroom light, since the light switch it as the door, sometimes a nuisance when I'm lying in bed watching a video on my ipad and too lazy to get up to turn off the lights lol.

I am a big fan of WYZE, so you might want to look into that.
Their Canadian web store has recently become available, but their US (web) store has far more products available for sale. With the border re-opening, as long as you are willing to pick stuff up from PR / Blaine, you'd be able to purchase any of their stuff.

When I moved in I went with this
https://www.amazon.ca/Philips-Hue-Dimming-Bluetooth-Enabled/dp/B08VD4WCL7/ref=sr_1_12?crid=Q4H8O6ATYBT5&keywords=philips+switch+dimmer&qid=1637443735&sprefix=philips+swi%2Caps%2C230&sr=8-12
I liked that I could add a dimmer switch without having to remove the existing switch and mess with any wires (not that it's super hard). Of course I can also control it with my phone or google home by speaking. Additionally, you can remove the control from the wall plate and have it by your bed so it really covers all basis.
Of course the downside the being on the Philips eco system can get very pricy but I mean the bulbs last a long time. I'm going on 3.5 years and expect go go at least another 3.5 if not more.
i was also waiting for MG to post so i can get my annual fails for my annual post

Google Home connects with a lot of stuff. I felt the key was to decide on a eco system (Google, Apple, Ring, Wyze).

I've had my e-scooter for about 2 years now, love it! Luckily I have only popped two tires so far because it is indeed a PITA to replace. My buddy helps me out with it each time. There are some local e-scooter/e-bike shops that offer service but the cost and turn around time is pretty slow..
During summer between June and August, I only filled up on gas once. Rode the scooter almost every single day to work. Over the course of two years, that alone has more than covered the cost of the scooter in my case.

Looking for anything and everything new and expecting parents might need!
Presto
11-22-2021, 04:20 PM
Sorry. Sleep is out of stock.
Looking for anything and everything new and expecting parents might need!
First, congrats! But be ready... :lawl:
Start asking around. F&F might have some stuff leftover that you can use.
We gave away all the stuff we bought new (like car seats, strollers... etc) to close F&F while getting quite a bit from close F&F (clothing and whatnot).
Kids stuff is legal robbery. Thus, the less you buy, the better. Some of the stuff would only be good for a few months if not weeks before you need something else.
Diapers... check between Superstore and Walmart. They usually go on sale every so often... and my recommendation is don't stock NB size (only last a week or 2), any size after, my rule of thumb is to stock a box more than the number (up to 2 for size 1, 3 for size 2, 4 for size 3). But of course it depends on your baby.
Same with formula (if you guys are not breastfeeding). Sign up for coupons for both diapers and formula, they can save quite a bit. And SS posts coupons every so often as well, that's when I stock up.
Things that I recommend buying new if you have to:
1. A good high chair. We have 2 Stokke Tripp Trapp. They are simple, timeless design and very well-built. Good for 6mth or so up and my older son is still using it after 8yrs... so it's definitely worth the money.
2. A good simple stroller. Don't get tricked into buying some fancy-looking stroller like a Stokke. Been there, done that. They look nice because they weight a ton. What's good of a stroller if you are too lazy to even taking it out of your trunk? Just buy a good lightweight one that you can really carry and use it everywhere. Many of the bigger names are safe and comfortable for the baby once they are 6mth+.
A tip is that most baby specific shops would likely have their BF sale or whatever. But find a good one out of province for further tax savings.
Things I definitely think it's a waste of money:
Diaper genie - baby shits... and I mean they shit like crazy. There is no way to keep your home absolutely odor-free. And after a while, you can rarely distinguish the difference between the smell of poop and curry. So, don't waste the money. If you absolutely have to, there's always Costco.
Baby bath tub thingy - just use your freaking washroom sink. If really needed, make one that's specific to give baby bath and put whatever needed to make baby safe/comffy.
donk.

Monitored systems are basically BS.. now even with Telus alarm they won't dispatch a guard unless they confirm no one is home, where as before they were dispatched if an alarm was not disarmed etc.
If Ring or Nest has a system that isn't monitored/subscription based id go with either of those

This is a hit or miss. We bought all of that and used a bottle maybe 3 times her entire 19 month life.
Wife had lots milk so we didn't pump much, and whatever we pumped we ended up tossing because she just would not eat out of a bottle.

Yeah, every baby is going to be different.
If mom has a good amount of milk production, I'd encourage you to look into donating the excess milk to your local hospital. They're always in need and it will go to another baby in need as well.
The thing with breastfeeding is that even if you breastfeed, you're going to want to pump to get the most milk out as possible so that you can have a decent volume.. You can always freezes milk to use for later (they usually last 6 months IIRC).
Also another benefit is that if your baby takes the bottle (and this is a learning process in and of itself), you can swap out and feed the baby so that it isn't mom that always has to do it.

-signed up for a Black Friday deal yesterday with Fido. A good phone plan. -went to the Fido Store at 1st Avenue Marketplace (1st avenue and Renfrew) in East Van.
Bring your own device for this plan:
No Contract.
Year 1: $35/month for 12 GB
Year 2: $40/month for 12 GB
Year 3 and so on: $50 month for 12 GB
Unlimited Canada wide calling minutes. Unlimited texts and video calls nation wide.
This plan is for new Fido customers only at this particular store location.
This deal from this Fido store location is better than the deal posted on RedFlag Deals. That deal is $40/month for the first 24 months for 12 GB.

I'm thinking to myself, wait, so your driving a $40-50K car and paying your landlords mortgage with $1500-$2000 a month rent, okay that makes total financial sense. Splurge on the liabilities to look good for whom? LOL. Funny enough the renters cars are more expensive than the landlords LMAO.

I'm going to assume that your looking out a window in Vancouver. In that case the renters may be all about location. They gave up wanting to own because if they're owning, they'll end up in Mission. So I'm an existing customer and I called into Fido on Black Friday to complain about not being able to use the "Build Your Own Plan" function on their site. The agent literally said to me "hey I can just give you the 12GB for $40 plan, that's what everyone is asking for". So of course I said yes but I'm hearing it should have been for new customers only and now I'm reading it's only for 2 years??
Wife called right after me and she wasn't able to get the same deal despite having the same plan. Her agent told her she needed to be a new customer. What gives? I'm kinda scared to call in and confirm if my new plan has a 2 year price change limit lest the new agent I talk to realizes it was a mistake and renege my deal.

This is nothing new, the customer service roulette YMMV. The deal is for new customers only but yea depending on the agent you get in retention they could work some magic if they choose to.

Thing is, I don't think I even reached Retentions it was the first agent I got on the phone and within a minute he offered me the new plan. I certainly didn't ask for Retentions but maybe all my bitching over the years finally wore them down haha.
Edit: just checked my plan online. It's now 10GB for $40. Yesterday it said I had 12GB remaining but the plan said 10GB. WTF, what kind of horseplay is this shit?

I'm paying $50 for 10GB with Telus. It does mention unlimited data usage with my plan, but I'm not sure what kinda speed after 10GB I would be getting beyond that point since I have yet to remotely get close to 10GB. Mainly due to working from home and seldom go out to be able to utilize the data.

I must be getting old, lazy or all of the above lol. In the past I would have pounced on this shit like there was no tomorrow but now I can't even care enough to lift a finger even though there's clearly cost savings here. I'm currently paying $60 for 15GB with Rogers.

Called in and wasn't able to get the $40 for 12gb as it is for new customers only.. Instead, I signed onto a 2 year contract, $50 for 12gb and a samsung s21 5g for 35/month. Plan itself is cheaper than what I was paying initially at $55 for 10gbs, so that's a small win there. Bargains don't seem to be there this year compared to before.

You could of gone to a Fido dealer (not corporate) and got a staggered BYOD 12gb plan.
$35 first 12 months
$40 second 12 months
Even virgin mobile had similar deals
EDIT:
My previous plan was with Koodo $60 for 17gb, then I switched over to Rogers EPP $50 20gb plan.
The Rogers plan was decent but the reception and data speeds were junk, I held onto it for a bit until black Friday.
Made the switch to Telus EPP plan $60 30gb, nice to have good reception and data speeds again.
EDIT 2: all the above are BYOD plans

Any tips and tricks on cleaning the windshield before application?

One application in the Fall should be good until next Fall. Diminishing effectiveness since abrasion from the wipers wears the aquapel away.

Aquapel miles better than RainX? I applied RainX a month ago and the coating seems to have worn off already.
donk.
11-29-2021, 10:26 PM
That shit never works, ive tried both aqua and rainx, similar results
You put it on, water beads off for a few weeks, the more you use your wipers / spray, it wears off. After about 2 weeks / month, its redundant, still need to use your wipers
Additionally, on some cars, you get the squaky wipers on glass noise, or the wipers start to jump across your windshield for x days until it evens its self out
The only way to use that stuff effectively, is if you only drive at night time, with never using your wipers after its been applied

While it may not be the safest, with rainx/aquapel I feel like I don't need to use the wipers.

I use this stuff once in awhile... it's also great in the house for getting rid of water spots on glass surfaces that won't come off with regular cleaners:

I think some of you guys may not be applying the aquapel on properly? I've been using this for many years, only have had to do it once a year - normally apply it around October/November when raincouver hits (lasts a good 6-9 months, which is adequate to get through the rain season).
Clean the windshield well with whatever window cleaner, then dry the window up. Then apply the aquapel evenly throughout, and buff off with microfiber or a couple paper towel. Then you should be set. Try to not use your wiper fluid to clean the windows once it's applied as it "wipes" off the coating.
Aquapel is most effective on highway/freeway driving as it doesn't really bead off until you get to 50-60km speed.

We do a lot of winter driving up the sea to sky and the challenge is during winter, the roads are super dirty you use a lot of wiper fluid just keeping the windshield clean from road salt and grime that gets kicked up at you from the vehicle in front whenever the road is wet.

I was on older TELUS plan. $75 for 10GB. It was originally $60 a few years ago when everyone went crazy for it.
Today I moved to an EPP. $56 now for 15 Gb.
Was it worth waiting on hold for an hour? I guess maybe? She said there were no better deals available right now and obviously I didn't push very hard so I just said sure.

Just an FYI I picked up some Aquapel from 1010/Volco in Coquitlam yesterday. I must have caught the owner on a good day because he gave me 5 for the (regular) price of 2, so I paid $23 something taxes in for 5. YMMV of course, but he just gave it to me I didn't ask for a discount lol
I took off the rainx that was on there and re-applied Aquapel, I haven't used the stuff in years.
Pros: Much easier to apply than RainX in the sense that it's just wipe on, wipe off buff a little bit; far less glare at night, wipers don't 'streak' momentarily like RainX does.
Cons: A lot less cost effective per unit, you'll need 1 for every windshield/window. Harder to apply than RainX in the sense that you don't really get room for error, and "less effective" at low speeds as it doesn't bead water in the same way rainx does.
All in all though, I still prefer Aquapel to RainX, especially for night driving.

bad experience with the 1010 tire purchase. Purchased 3 applicators and all of them were dry. It took 2 applicators to just do the front window. I've purchase these in the past so I knew something was off.
I emailed 1010tires to ask whether the stock was old or defective and here is what they wrote back:
Very sorry to hear about your experience. You are correct in terms the applicators were old stock but then we didn't charge allot of money for them.
We will refund the price of one applicator.
Hope one day you will buy tires and or wheels from us.
