My house has vinyl siding and I want to install a pair of light sconces beside the garage doors, however I'm at odds thinking of an elegant but weatherproof way to do so properly.
The challenge is the shape of the light does not work well with your standard mounting block. Both the shape of the block is not even around the shape of the light, bit also it causes the light to stick out far from the siding, as you can see here:

Ideally I'd like it mounted flush against the vinyl siding like this, which I could do simply with a hole in the siding and a pancake box mounted directly onto the wood panel behind the siding:

but then I'm concerned about moisture inclusion as there's minimal overhang in this area and it will get directly rained on.
The best thing I can think of is to use pressure treated lumber and make my own custom shaped mount with a drip edge at the top, something like this:
