I saw a dude with a pretty sick STI today w/ yellow tinted headlights. Is that illegal in BC?

Thought this would be a fun weekend project if its not illegal. Its for my sick ass camry by the way since the headlights are already yellowing.

I've been trying to figure this out for years, I see people with really bright yellow headlights or fogs but I don't how it's done. I've tried yellow tint makes no difference, 3000k hid turns out bright but green, yellow 3000k halogen bulbs aren't that bright nor that much more yellow than regular halogens. Halp FeelsBadMan

I think you can just get H whatever led bulbs in yellow. I’m Pretty sure that’s how they do it.

I think the 3000k LEDs aren't bright, they are more for colour but sucks ass compared to white in output

Don’t go for gel overlays, get the actual yellow bulbs.
The RS comes with white h8 fogs. Common upgrade is h11’s, which you can get in yellow from Canadian tire (Hella? Can’t remember brand). Not as bright as LED, but has the right colour and is still plenty bright. I find the LED yellows can be quite… neon yellow/green. Hard to describe… you can see the white LED eyebrows in the headlights vs the yellow fogs

I bought some yellow bulbs for my old E30 325i for the fog lights and I only ever used them when it snowed or there was fog. I didn't get busted by popo in East Van but it was a risk I was aware of and was prepare to deal with the consequences because it looked sick. In hindsight, I have no regrets because Euro and quite frankly, they looked really good. :fuckyea:

Yellow headlights asking for trouble. Yellow fogs are sick. Especially on Euro. Especially on vintage Euro (see profile pic :fuckyea:)

I don't recall which Lexus had it but some had this yellow capsule that goes over the bulb to make the fogs even more yellow.

yellow headlights are illegal, but yellow fogs are legal.

White LEDs + yellow overlay/tint on the fog housing will only give off a lime colour.
I've also tried those white/yellow "conversion" kits where the white LED also comes with a yellow tinted tube that goes over the LED. That's no good as well. You'll get a lime colour.
The only way to do it is using an actual 3000k LED lights, but take note of the Lumens as that's your brightness output. Sometimes the ads will specify the lumens (LM) as the total sum of both lights, sometimes individually. It can be misleading, so read carefully before buying.
And don't use halogens. They have a much weaker output... like 700~ LM? LED's have 2000-4000 LM average. Personally, I have a tint overlay (just for the yellow fog lamp look when the fogs aren't on) and I'm currently using 2500LM 3000K LEDs.

I used some LEDs for fogs before and I found the light output "lumpy". Make sure you get something that's a full 360' output

Is the 3000k led any good compared to halogens? In terms of brightness? The car I'm working with uses h3 bulbs for fogs so the bulbs are tiny, and since it has that wired connector in the back of the bulb + spring bulb holder there isn't much room if any at all for cooling fans or fins. Most of the smaller bulbs just seems to be for colour rather than brightness.

IMO, LED's are always superior over halogens. Way more brighter and also last longer. It's just better and different tech. The LM output on LED's will be much higher than halogens.
I'm not familiar with h3 bulbs but search online and see if you find any LED's that can physically fit. Some of them don't have a fan and a large heatsink.

Some of the issue for LEDs is the throw pattern though - sometimes you can tell there's "lobes" so it doesn't look good, if you cheap out and get ones that don't have good emitter placement.
For my Miata, I ended up going with HIR2 bulbs. They were easy to modify, had increased (30% iirc) lumens over stock, and maintained the beam/throw pattern of the stock housings.
