End Of The World As We Know It.
thoughts?
how do you think the world will end?
-zombies?
-world War 3?
-hyper inflation?
-?
where will you be? how will you survive?
toss on your tin foil hats and grab some popcorn.
I'm gonna guess that the 25th variant of covid will create zombies and I'm gonna ride it out in the mountains.
Looking forward to CiC posting.

i think it'll be like the fallout universe where we get annexed by the USA and there is a global resource war leading to mutually assured destruction
that or climate change will kill us all and that stupid Greta zucchini mouth Thunberg is right.

a mix of hyper inflation and cataclysmic natural disaster from mostly flooding and other events caused by natural climate change.

This would be pretty wild if it happened.
Canada, the US and Mexico all annexed into one super country.

I got a feeling that US is heading towards civil war 2.0 faster than them taking on another global conflict. Their internal political divide is no joke.

I feel like 5 years ago what I write below would have seemed absolutely ridiculous, but now it's real enough that it's maybe even possible within our lifetime?
- I think corporations will take over everything in our lives, we won't own anything, everything will be subscription based -- driving a car, renting a dwelling, food, entertainment... some of these things already are, but it's only going to expand and people will almost never leave their houses, travel will become difficult or costly to a point that only an elite level of people are able to partake in air travel
- I think that programs currently available in China and other places that allow you to decide genetics of babies will get out of control and a race of identical perfect looking highly intelligent and disease/defect free humans will be created, eventually resulting in a homogenous society and the sterilization of individuality
- I don't think the world will end per-say, but I do think it will become controlled to a point where only a few are able to understand anymore even what the world is beyond what they're told while restricted to their domiciles or sector

Climate change will reduce arable land, Murdoc mentioned hyperinflation which I agree, will mostly happen with food costs.
Poorer countries who already can't feed themselves will be fucked. Mass starvation and mass migration causing further political instability in many countries.
That's probably going to bring about massive changes in social policies and way of life. World population will decrease to reach a new equilibrium with available resources.

Big swaths of India and Africa where literally billions of people live are already becoming uninhabitable due to heat, drought, etc.
In turn those people generally flee to the larger cities where resources are at least available, puting more and more stress on the infrastructure of those places. I think in Canada and Vancouver especially we are insulated from many of the greater problems of the world due to geography. It’s much harder to reach the west coast of Canada than almost anywhere else in North America due to flight routes etc.

LOL what? 44% of the population of Vancouver was born outside of Canada. LA is at 36%, New York is at 29% and London is at 37%.

Series of solar storms that cause irreparable damage to everything from electrical grid, telecommunications, satellites, etc. As a result, world economy collapses due to massive food shortages. Distribution issues. No power to farms, greenhouses, irrigation systems, etc. Military defence systems affected to the point the superpowers are no longer in control. Worst yet, over a very short time, natural disasters increase to the point the atmosphere becomes toxic. Ocean boils over. Planet becomes one big graveyard.
How's that for depressing?
Maybe now I can get that pesky message from popping up. I posted something.

Perpetual AC usage driving up the need for more energy in turn burning more fossil fuels and creating a pollution cycle?

10 years ago, most Vancouverites wouldn't have dreamed of needing to use an AC. Just opening some windows was enough. Now look at the "Heat Wave" thread. It's scary

might wanna run the spell checker on that one
Humanity as a whole is about resources, and the 2 most important ones are
1. Energy
Assuming we have no limit on the amount of energy available, then most of the other stuff (food, water... etc) can be sourced easily. Desalination of ocean water is extremely energy intensive as well as newer technological-based farming.
2. Labor
The basic is human, and then animals and machines that expand our productivity by multifold.
Now, with these things considered, I think we are on the blink of a fundamental change in society (something that's going to happen in our lifetime).
We are coming up with newer and better (cleaner) and cheaper ways to generate energy. Be it solar, nuclear or even fusion technologies are achieving efficiency and scales that would eventually push down the price of energy to a level never imaginable.
With humanoid robots getting closer and closer to reality instead of something out of a sci-fi movie, combined with an abundance of energy, we will see a society completely different than what we know of. Social hierarchy has always been defined by the amount of resources (be it money or power) one has. But when resources are value so cheaply, how do you continue to define social hierarchy?
Don't give me that crap that everyone is equal and social hierarchy is unnecessary. The society as we know it works because social hierarchy exists. Without it, it's like the wild wild west where there is no boundaries. Why should I listen to authorities such as gov't or my boss at work and whatever when they hold as many resources as I do?
It's going to be a question that gov't around the world will have to answer within the next 50yrs.

There's the Star Trek theory too... replicators... creating material things... that gets rid of the need for production and money and purchasing of things and everyone has access to the same foods or products.
That's a little less bleak of a perspective anyway -- a society where nobody needs to fight each other or play off each other to have things.

When everyone was poor people tried to one-up each other with the size of their families or livestock they own
When people become middle class they did it with consumer goods, houses, cars
When everyone around you is sufficiently rich, it becomes about experiential stuff - vacations, restaurants, other influencer crap, etc.
Society will find another way to stratify itself in a post-scarcity world. It's pretty much an open dirty secret if you watch enough Star Trek.

Yea there will never be a time when there isn’t some BS to one up another person lol
Even for me, I really couldn’t care less about an expensive watch, etc. I feel like I’m very secure financially, two good incomes etc I could buy stupid shit if I wanted to. As a kid my parents paid for my braces but I never wore my retainer and my teeth got crooked. As I became more financially secure I more and more associated having bad teeth with being poor. So I dumped a bunch of money into my orthodontist, and after this is done I’ll get the most obnoxious whitening you can get.
Even little shit like that will always grind on others as a status symbol

There's talk about how we are eating last years crops now and that next year we will see a shortage on food due to war and shit climate.
Tin foil hat theorists suggest that China has been hoarding a shit ton of grain because of the projected shortage.
