Always wodner for a highend status car like GT3 or anything above. Do you have to pay an insane amout of markups then they put you in a waiting list? Or do you have to do more than that?

For Porsches, if you get a genuine factory order it's MSRP no markups.
What ppl do a lot are buy the car, drive it for a bit, sell it back to the dealers and the dealers will sell a 992 GT3 right now for ~400k.
But good luck getting a factory allocation for a Porsche GT car. Earlier this year you could still get lucky and get on the wait list for a GT4 allocation with no prior relationship. I think even that is hard now.

Don't a lot of buyers go through hoops by needing the right Porsche cars to trade in and a good sales history with the dealer before qualifying for a GT3/RS allocation?

its not THAT hard if youre willing to go buy it straight from Deutschland. Dont need to play all these games, you just need to be able to
1 - pay cash
2 - speak german (helps to convey you're sincere and they prioritize local customers first)
3 - prepare to wait
i got a lot of rich ass friends in hamburg and they havent had any issues securing these cars as long as you put a deposit and willing to wait. No need for previous purchase history and you save some tax buy doing european delivery

With Euro delivery the car still needs to be ordered here? Unless allocations are region agnostic and getting an allocation in Germany can have the car delivered in Canada in CADM spec. I doubt it though.

they should have taken away that traditional steering wheel and upgraded to a Cup car racing steering wheel. I mean the car is pretty much there anyways.

No man. If you order it here then you play their games. You order it over there as a domestic German 911 and then you do the homework of importing it into Canada. So yes you’ll need to dick around with some lights/reflectors and crap but it’s still not a overly hard process.

It has to be 15 years old to import though?

I don’t think so. It’s just the same as if you imported a Usdm car to Canada. You just gotta pay the equivalent tax when it arrives.

You are ordering a Canadian spec car that just dosnt get delivered by them. 15 year rule no apply.
Badhobz
08-19-2022, 05:19 AM
youre ordering a german, domestic market 911 (you wont be able to order a canadian spec car in germany). You will need to do certain modifications when it arrives in canada to make it road legal. You will be able to save the VAT if you export the vehicle, however porsche might not like that you are exporting the vehicle and might slap you down if they find out. But once again, if you dont want to play the games of north American dealers, this is a relatively easy way to get a high end 911 without buying 1-2 extra 911's to accommodate their bullshit.

For us normal folks, there is a fat chance you will get a new GT car. Just have to wait it out and buy used if the price is right. Porsche will always produce a better faster GT car and the rich folks will always go after the newest and fastest.

The cheapest one in Canada is $270,000 and a 2016 not including one that's a racing shell of some sort...
A new one is $248k starting price.

most of the guys who buys these things are not going to track it, or put any real miles on it because resale would go out the friggin window if they did.
Id totally track a miata (dont fit) or the GR86 before even considering this

Ya, I dunno about that. If its $248,000 for a new one, who's going to pay $270,000 for a used one? Most likely that used one is priced insanely high or MSRP is insanely low. The only one I see that might increase in value are the stick shifts. The PDK Porsche won't gain much as Porsche keeps making newer versions with PDK.

It's cuz you can't get one new just by being rich......
So everyone that wants one that has money but no pull at Porsche, buys used... and there's a limited supply of that too... ergo prices go up.
That's why at least one big Porsche dealer locally, who aren't allowed to tack on "market adjustments" titles some of the GT cars they get and then sells them as "used" cars for $300k+++

Not too sure about this 992.1 GT3 RS, the 996 & 997 GT3RS was harsh as hell not to mention a killer clutch.
BUT, the 991.1 GT3RS was actually really compliant imo and along with the PDK I would say reasonable to daily. Non RS 991.1 are totally doable, especially with out the bucket seats.

Majority of the Porsche owners that I do know in Vancouver, including gt3 and gt3rs owners, do actually track it. Most of them usually go VIMC or Area27.

I can't speak for Vancouver but in the GTA, it's a mixed bag.
You have the group that will take their cars to the track, from ratty 944s that eat GT3s for breakfast, to purpose built cup cars from the factory. You will likely never see them at cars and coffee meets or organized club driving tours.
You'll then have the other end of the spectrum owners who prance around the streets to flex some muscle and go to cars and coffee meets or driving tours. Very few are in the middle ground.

Short answer is most people who want a GT3 RS won't be able to get one. Pay to play in this market unfortunately and it's even harder in Vancouver when there's always another guy that's willing to spend more money to get one.
Is it easy to get an allocation for the 718 4.0?
One of the best models for the money but we still have over 30 people waiting for one and receive maybe 7-8 allocations a year unfortunately. Not looking good unless you put an order in at least a year ago.

From my limited chat to owners
Ferrari no, even when you show up to buy a used 488, unless you have prior history with the FMOV, if you are just fresh, they want to get you in a california... or smth
McLaren, I don't actually know any owners, so no comment, maybe TOFU can chime in?
Porsche... well lets just say current 6MT manual 992.1 GT3 (the reg one, not the RS) are selling for $400K here locally. I get it.. supply and demand... but still I would think a lot of options opens up when you have 400k... I know pfaff sold one in July
For me personally, I would love a 982 718 Boxster GTS 4.0 6MT, basically the drop top GT4, not as flashy, but probably more fun. I would love to splurge on the aftermarket final drive to make the gearing shorter if it didnt kill the re-sale value....
Ahhh one can dream right?

Is it easy to get an allocation for the 718 4.0?
I was talking to a salesperson at PCV back in mid July, and he was telling me that the wait for 718 and 911 were in the 12 - 24+ month wait. And with the 718, in particular, there is no guarantee that someone in the allocation request queue would be able to secure an ICE car either since production run is expected to end (in 2024?).
If you want one, you'd either have to pay through the nose for whatever pre-owned inventory they have at the dealerships, or you pay them the (refundable) deposit and just patiently wait in line for one -- if it ever comes.

you're talking about 2 different things here.
anybody can wait a few years. You could be owning/driving a late-ish model GT car in the next few hours if you've got the cash.
the cash won't do you much good if you want an allocation for a brand new one.
Personally I'd WAY rather have a clean 3 pedal 997 GT3 than a new one anyways.

It was so absurd I took a photo of it last week when I saw it in person. But everyone's trying to ask for those prices on the used market.
And a minor technicality: Cowell VW / Audi / Jaguar Land Rover were sold to Go Auto, not OpenRoad. I'm sure OpenRoad wanted their hands on them though.
