It's not a good as it used to be, but there are still some good deals to be had.

Shoppers Drug Mart is having a skookum Spend Your Points Event on Black Friday week (Nov 25 - Nov 30). $400.00 worth of stuff for 250,000 points. That's $150 free.

If you're into or getting into Cricut. All materials, tools, and mats are 50% off. Both via Cricut and Michael's. If you have a teacher friend, you can get a further 15% off at Michael's only. If you or your friend is registered as a teacher with Michael's, you can use their phone number. Just make sure if you're a he your friend is a he or she's a she (you get the idea). I don't think they really check. I wouldn't take a chance. Might get your friend's account canceled (not 100% sure).

Machines are on sale as well, but no further reductions and not 50% off. Michael's has same prices as Cricut.

If you or someone you know is wanting to get into turntables, I saw that the Marley Spin it Up is on sale at Best Buy. It's on sale for $249.00. This is a really cool entry level turntable. Friends don't let friends buy shitty turntables and record players like Crosley, Victrola, and the like. They will damage records in no time flat.

If you're an audiophile, this is the one day you must attend

https://hificentre.com

The one day you can go into the place without an appointment. Yes, bring a towel to wipe the drool off the floor. Check out the virtual tour and product line....... McIntosh, ftmfw!

If you are into headphones.............

https://headphonebar.com/collections/black-friday-sale

I'm seriously thinking of getting the House of Marley Stir it Up turntable as a second turntable to play my not so perfect bargain LP's.

https://toprecordplayers.com/house-of-marley-turntable-review/

https://www.loudersound.com/reviews/house-of-marley-stir-it-up-turntable-review

I like the looks of it. Saw it at Best Buy. Best part is, it is very eco-friendly. Believe it or not, Shoppers has them on their website. along with the really crappy stuff. Spend your points event............... hmmmmm.............

UPDATE: House of Marley Canada has the turntables for even less. The one on Best Buy and Shoppers is the lower model and sells on the Marley website for $199.00. The new improved model has added features like Bluetooth and volume control for output. It sells for $249.99 on the Marley website. Best Buy states the turntable they sell comes with Bluetooth, but in reality, it is the one without Bluetooth. I saw the turntables at Best Buy in Coquitlam on Wednesday. BTW, they look better in real life.

https://www.thehouseofmarley.ca/turntables/

The other thing I found out is that proceeds from sales go to planting trees around the world. Sustainable and eco friendly. A tree hugger am I.

Forgot Cyber Monday.................. I totally wait all year to get gift cards from Lee Valley Tools. 15% off is the only time you can get anything on sale at Lee Valley. Aside from their "Special Buy" items. They also clear out some of their stock on Cyber Monday. On-line starting Sunday Midnight EST.

Gone are the days of huge lineups at Ikea, Future Shop, A&B Sound, etc.............. remember those days?

Local papers come out tomorrow (Thursday). Sometimes last minute deals are on the flyer inserts.

I remember lining up to get $300.00 worth of records, CD's DVD's for being the first three to be in the lineup. Got $250.00 gift voucher at Jysk one year. First one in line I was, gulolol. I think Ikea had some free vouchers for first 100 people in the line up........... not that long ago. Pre pandemic. Anyway, I'm retired.......... love beating off c-lai's trying to butt in line.

Hey, I went to five hour plus line ups at UBC for courses and books back in the dark ages. I'm totally used to it.

All this talk about big sales due to surplus, but the deals are shit.

Although if past years are indication, if you need something, now's probably the time, Boxing Day is not a thing anymore.

Tools. Summitt, KMS, Home Depot all have Black Friday Sales.

Milwaukee M12 2.0 amp batteries are $29.99 right now at Home Depot, KMS, and most other supply stores. Regular $59.00 or there abouts.

BTW, Price match is a no go at most places during Black Friday.

Boxing Day is the worst.

Now is the time to get items, if you are looking for something specific.

Thing is, sales are on all the time or at least more often these days that special days like Black Friday and Boxing Day are a thing of the past. Still, it's worth looking into.

I avoid shopping during sales, empty bank account syndrome activates

With that said, my tv is on its way out, so I blew my load on a 65 Samsung for 800$ .....an incredible, mouth watering 100$ in savings
Il check back on boxing day to find out if I could have saved an extra 100$ by waiting for x weeks

I peruse RedFlagDeals for unadvertised deals and go from there, but for the past 2 years I find most of the electronics deals start happening a week or two before Black Friday. There were some deals this year including a price-error 65" LG C2 TV for $1,700 with 11% Rakuten Cashback, $695 on a Philips 3200 Super Automatic Espresso Machine, along with other general laptop / PC deals.

On-line lots, but locally, no.

Magic Box has a Boxing Day Sale, but not Black Friday. GoGo Hobbies has good prices all year round. The owner, Cam passed away last year, but friends are keeping the place running. I'd check them out if you haven't already. Good people.

Sorry I'm not much help in the area of RC's.

RE: Black Friday, if anyone is into musicianing, Long & MacQuade has used stock blowouts for all their stores.

https://promo.long-mcquade.com/?f=140&s=LW21&l=0

i.e., A $4000 Roland stage piano for $1999

This will take you to the Vancouver store but there's a drop down at top-left to take you to other instore specials.

Yes, you'll pay taxes on used items, but you'll also get warrantee from 6 months to 1 year depending on what you're buying.

I thought it's Black Friday month?
It has basically come to that now, and lots of retailers are either saying prices will not be lower on BF, or that they will refund any price difference if BF price was cheaper than their month-long BF sale.

As MG1 has already mentioned, we are having more sales more frequently nowadays, and the dramatic effect of BF / Boxing Day have really become a thing of the past. It's difficult to say which way makes for a more enjoyable consumer experience though. But I suspect that for the retailers, more frequent sales at less than spectacular prices are probably better off for their bottom line.

I agree, all this talk about supply surplus and massive sales this year as a result of retailers buying too much stock post COVID was all BS?

Gotta have more vinyl, lol. Although, I've been hopping onto the SACD bandwagon as of late.

I have a good collection of DVD-Audio, but too few players can read them. The Alpine F#1 Status in the car can as well as the Sony UBP-X800M2 in the media room. However, the source material is nearly extinct. I have not seen any DVD-Audio produced in the last 15 years? Lol. SACD's have won the battle. Having said that, I've been getting SACD's through MoFi (Mobile Fidelity Sound Labs). The guys who produce the Direct from Masters stuff. Their LP's are the best of the best. No Black Friday sale. They don't need to get into it. Their stuff is in huge demand. In fact, their limited production copies (analog and digital) go for like hundreds of dollars on the market. Some, you cannot get at any price. I'm awaiting Michael Jackon's Thriller on SACD from MoFi. Got this last year. https://mofi.com/products/mfsl45ud1s-004_simon_and_garfunkel_bridge_over_troubled_water _180g_45rpm_2lp_box_set

Hope you got the GB-70. I have two 70's and one 40. Both are fine, but for larger vehicles, the GB-70 is needed. I have yet to have the GB-40 fail to start a vehicle, but ya never know. And yes, you need a starter for electric vehicles. A dead 12 volt means no starting the EV.

I've been fortunate with the iMiEV. Coming up to 8 years and 12 volt is very strong. I plug in at home just about every day. That's how the 12 volt gets charged. The Smart Car, on the other hand is bricked. All because the 12 volt died. Such a stupid design. The Warranty on the POS was 4 years. FOUR years!! The main traction battery is toast. Will cost more than the value of the vehicle to replace it. Felt like a pioneer when I bought the thing back in 2015. A great car with lots of torque but poorly designed. Mercedes jammed out and said, "Sayonara." Anyway.................. had to whine about it. Never buy another Smart Car. Not so smart. Build quality is pathetic. And Mercedes gave absolutely no shit about it. They got to build XXX number of polluting vehicles, because they had produced "some" electric vehicles. Industry standard warranty on EV traction batteries is 8 years. Argh............. getting pissed off just talking about it. If anyone wants to drop a jet engine in it, PM me, gulolol.

Useless car fact: hybrids can't be used to jump start the regular ICE cars because they don't have an alternator. The hybrid puts its electronic system at risk if it tries.

Learned this when my friends Fit battery died and his dad with a hybrid Toyota wouldn't give him a jump.

I have an Eliminator jump starter and Noco gb150. Use the eliminator one a handful of times each year cuz Fit batteries suck.

basically you get the $30 plan that everyone is offering + $380~ for the phone.

If you're looking for a Pixel 7, you can get the 128GB for around $450-500 CAD by trading in an iPhone 11 since it's worth $494 USD right now on Google USA.

Edit: Looks like LD's been restocking on their TVs - fingers crossed my order goes through for pick up.

100% Rogers is slower than Telus for me... I wish I never switched. Once my contract is over with Rogers, i'm going back to Telus.

On slightly related note, I called Telus because my internet and TV was coming up and they gave me 1GB internet, TV for $89 + $50 bill credit. Shaw is offering $89 for 1GB internet + $150 bill credit, but this saves me from having to switch everything over.

Did Rogers give you a deal on Black Friday? I waited 45min last week to see a rep only to be told "nah man, I can't get you a deal better than what you already have"

Which one did you order? Mine still processing.

Read some people are getting BNIB drones transited to the store. Wonder if my friend is going to get a new TV instead, lol.

I ordered a 65" C1 and the Samsung QN90 - the C1 is a display model and the QN90 might be brand new (there were 2 in stock when I placed the order) - I'll need to call to confirm. It's on the island so I'll have to catch a ferry to retrieve it, but it'll be worth it if it's brand new in box.

Are you talking about Internet? If so, you need to speak with the retention department and tell them that Telus is offering you a better deal to switch over. That's the only way you'll get some leverage.

The Rogers Internet deal is a public deal going on right now, so anyone can get it.

Went with my friend to pick up the TV from Brentwood Mall London Drugs.

It was an actual display model. Came out in bubble wrap on a dolly, lol. Not even in a box.

Picked up the DJI mini 2 fly more combo for $369.96. I did not know this but the price gets reduced by 50% when added to the cart.

I ordered another Samsung QN90A at Chilliwack. Saw the DJI Mini 3 Pro in stock, so decided to just grab it anyways.

Wonder if the TV is display as well and if the drone is BNIB, lol.

Will probably use this TV while Geek Squad figure out what to do with my LG C9. Had a bunch of dead pixels on the top and bottom. Not sure if they replacing the panel, giving me credit back or a new TV, lol.

Man I'm so out of the loop on cell phone deals and such. Once upon a time I was like always one of the first to get the best plans via retention, Government plans and such but fatherhood made me get out of the game. Finally got off my lazy ass though and hit up Rogers live chat yesterday, was on an old $65 for 15GB unlimited talk and text plan with Rogers which is now out dated as fuck. They gave me 50Gb with unlimited talk and text for $65 + $20 off = $45/month for 24 months. No contact just month to month. That's good right lol? I don't know I'm paying less and got almost 3 times the data I ain't complaining.

I'm with Freedom Mobile. $50/month for unlimited talk and text Canada and US wide. 18 gig data and 1 gig US. Throttled back once over the limits. Was told to keep this plan and not go with any other. I guess that means it's good? The only time I've ever come close to reaching the data limit was when I was streaming Blue Jays games while waiting for family to finish shopping. I got smart and streamed the games on Sirius XM, instead. No visual, but listening to games is great. Especially baseball. Buck Martinez and Shulman, ftmfw!

Picked up my C1 last night - it was a display model but the display hours were minimal and came with all the original packaging and box. It was hung on a wall too so the display stand was still brand new.

I believe the newer panels fare better reliability-wise, but I might get LG's extended OLED warranty just in case for peace of mind.

My LG C9 was a display model as well. Came with around 3500 hours. I put in another 1000 hours in the past two years. I run one of those solid colour burn-in test videos on YouTube from time to time. Still no issues that I could see - just the random black dead pixels.

YMMV, but people on reddit say LG will replace a panel with burn-in issues once if you ask nicely.

I still have my C8 and it's been the best tv I ever had. I don't know how many thousands of hours are on it by now but I've done everything on it including videogames and have yet to have any issues with burn in or dead pixels.

Yeah, out over here in the West, Telus/Koodo/Bell/Virgin are practically the same since they share infrastructure.

Rogers/Fido are on their own. Same with Freedom/Shaw.
