That bracket may have broken from the springs being worn out, leading to undue pressure on the garage door panels and brackets.
Last year one my garage door hinges broke. I thought that was it so I replaced it myself. Didn't fix the issue. Later realized it was the worn springs no longer being able to support the weight of the garage door properly when raising/lowering.
My garage spring exploded, pretty scary sound too. Sounded like a gunshot.
Didn't bother repairing it because it was going to be torn down for a laneway house anyways
