Got the summers back on and did spring cleaning on the outside. The ceramic coating is 3 years old now and still going strong. Still haven't fixed the damage on the rear hatch from when my wife backed it into the garage - need to watch some YouTube vids to learn how to apply touch up paint.

After almost 5 years (taken off the road to focus on my Career, and the V.I. Craze had me paranoid) I decided to continue building my EM1 SiR. After 2 months of catching up on Maintenance, Engine and Suspension Tuning... It made it's Auto-X debut for VCMC Cup Series 2023.

Managed to clock in the fastest time of the day in it's class, Street Modified FWD & second fastest Raw time in the novice group being my second Auto-X event ever, and first time with this car.

It was the owner of the dealerships car, they did not charge me pdi, and gave me free delivery. 600$ paperwork fee. I guess you can call it a demo since I'm the "first owner" on paper

Both platforms gave me solid leads with the winning one coming from AutoTrader. Most people already knew what it was which made communications easier, plus the historical listings data I had filtered out the few tire kickers pretty quick.

I felt it was time to improve my manual-driving skills in order to feel more comfortable behind the wheel. The new WRX was readily available and reasonably priced so it became the answer.

Correct, it has the m156. 2011 is the last year of this engine in the e-class before moving to the 5.5 biturbo v8 for 2012-2016.

Headbolts are not an issue because they started installing the updated ones in 2011.

What's the biggest Pro that led to the upgrade from E55 to E63s?

The 3 big pros would be better sound, better cornering, and better build quality.

Although, it's no faster and the low end torque just isn't the same compared to the E55.

Curious what made you move from performance / sports cars to the Corolla Cross?
due to ongoing (non life threatening) health issues my gf has moved back home to take care of her aging ESL parents. so until we find a more permanent solutions we've been in a semi long distance relationship. i racked up 35k km last year. these long trips back and forth in a lowered car with aggresive wheels and sticky tires really took a toll on me and the cars paint. at almost 100k km, it was a good time to get something more reliable and more forgiving with high km

wtf... I went with my sister to test drive the Corolla Cross when she needed a new car, she was excited when I told her about it... but we were both totally dismayed with the shite interior and too small sizing.

Given how little it was to move up to the RAV-4 it was a no brainer, so she went that route instead.

at the time of ordering the wait for the rav4 was too long. the cross's size wasnt an issue. the price difference is like $7k, still a good chuck of money.


what spec of TE's to fit on the corolla-x?

Not sure what exactly you meant by 'combo breaker' but that's the common theme I saw in all your previous cars. Maybe that and a front lip? What is 'combo breaker'?

And how are you going to lower your Corolla Cross?

As you guys know, i wanted to take a "fun" car down to Oregon Coast/Norcal Coast and was gonna take the wife and the ratrolla but after reading all the crap about crime in the bay area and portland i decided i needed something more low key.

So i looked into renting and it wasnt really worth it. Also as 68style pointed out to me, there are limitations as to how long you can rent/how far you can go from YVR in the states. So i stole her dad's sc430. its 21 years old but it was the perfect companion on this trip.

The wife also had commitments last week so she bailed. Which in hindsight was for the best anyways as there was no way i could have piled on the miles with her in the car.

I did the entire trip leaving wednesday morning and coming back last night. 2100 miles in total (3379km) spending 389 USD/523CAD on gas. The sc430 was able to get 28mpg/10L/100km so it was quite economical.

I literally turned up the tunes, dropped the top and enjoyed myself for 3 days

I went through Aberdeen WA last time on the way to ocean shores and found it quite rustic and cute. The city turned into a crack den now with homelessness everywhere

This Becker building is the tallest building in Aberdeen and has an interesting history dating back 100 years. Its also completely closed down due to all the wackjobs infesting the surrounding area.

the seats are pretty comfortable, but i havent gone on a long drive yet.
nvh isnt great but its what youll expect from a $30k taxed in car.
at the time of ordering used car prices were still kinda high, so i was willing to wait and pay msrp .

It was a lot of fun. Even better doing it solo as I always wanted to do this drive at my own pace in a convertible. If you guys have the option to do it in a drop top, please do that. It makes a world of difference and your soul will thank you for it.

Good tunes + worlds best views + a big comfy couch to watch everything = best 3 days of my automotive life.

I also realized that dynamism isn’t as important as comfort and luxury when you are going on long long trips. I thought I’d be blasting each apex along the Oregon coast but instead I was just going the speed limit it or even below it just to catch as much of that scenery as possible. It’s a great driving road (hwy 101, 1, etc) but you need a good comfortable seat to endure the long tedious boredom of the i5 when you come back.

The sc430 is perfect for that. Barely dynamic enough for the twistys but comfortable as hell for the 15h straight shot I did on the way back. If it wasn’t for that car I don’t think I would be able to stand it.

Ps. US roads are trash for the most part. Even along the coast most of it is horribly littered with potholes and ruts. You need suspension travel. You need sidewalls. If you bring your low profile bbs rims, prepare to be stuck on the side of the road calling AAA (if you can even get a signal)

Pps. If you’re gonna go, go now. Temps down along the coast are relatively the same as ours. 20-25 during the day. It’s nice. Any later in the year and you’ll fry like an egg if you have the top down.

Hyundai Staria is the correct answer! It's a funky AWD diesel minivan with Ioniq 5 styling and I rented it from Sixt Australia for my Sydney to Melbourne road trip with family. So far it's been a comfortable highway cruiser - a bit down on power - but Australia's strict speeding rules won't let me speed anyway without some hefty speeding tickets.

Treated myself to an A6 Avant in Germany. It's so nice to just cruise at 170/180 KM/H with no drama with a few sprints up to 220 when it's clear.

Luckily it's a US model E55 so import is as easy as it gets.

That being said, I sold my Canadian model silver E55 back in 2020 and was happy with the results.
