It would have been nice if they did what they had on the Tundra where it automatically comes down over a certain speed but then folds up when you don't need it.

I'm not sure what they were thinking with some of the choices. This blue painted dash trim with 'TACOMA' glued on looks like something people did to their own vehicle back in the early 2000s

I noticed with new cars be it porsche, Toyota, etc you can get interior pieces painted to match the exterior colour

I could never trade off the luxury of the trim line VS the perceived benefits of a Tacoma
It would have been nice if they did what they had on the Tundra where it automatically comes down over a certain speed but then folds up when you don't need it.
I heard it was either space limited since it's smaller than the Tundra after all and/or they know people will seriously take these trucks off road and if they fall onto a rock or something, it'll be $$$$ to fix. Whereas with the current set up, it's easily removable and they probably expect most people to keep it off if they're concerned about approach angle.... or both lol

I think they will, the market is really hooped right now, everyone buys vehicles on credit and the rates are mental... if you go on local dealership websites there are a lot of discounts and cashback incentives being offered suddenly.
It's nice to see they're still offering the truck with a manul!

The Pro is 10k+ more than a Canyon AT4X.
The Trail Hunter's about the same as a used TRX.
RAM RHO is priced about the same as a Tacoma Pro in the States but Canadian pricing looks obscene.

2.4T makes a ton of noise, you look down and you're doing like 63kmh
Still gear hunts
Plastic feels worse than switchgear in Corolla
and the chassis still flops around bumps/braking even with the coil springs

If you pick the 4X4 Double Cab Hybrid - Trailhunter and add every single option and include taxes it's $107k. But nobody is actually going to do that. A regular auto TRD Off Road is 60k all in. Which is still a lot of money but that's a really nice truck.

I built a 6-spd TRD Pro with option package the other day and it was $53k + taxes/fees
I think that's a TRD Offroad/Sport trim and not the TRD Pro which from memory is on the lower-end of the Tacoma's many combinations. I thought it was well priced for a 6MT truck in this post-covid new-car pricing climate.

I mean... it's still quad cab, 4x4, A/C, power everything, has nice wheels and a bit of a bodykit, etc... doesn't look too bad... I might consider one moving to cowtown, throw a tent thing in the back and do some Rocky Mountain experiences.
It's the only way to still buy a manual, makes things simpler haha

It's not like the old days where the base model had no AC and manual windows. What can you actually add on that's useful? Other than the diff lock and the Bilsteins I don't see anything in there that's actually worth paying extra for.

If I understand your logic right, an engine that's used in many vehicles means it's a good engine.
Specific to Toyota, the 2AZ-FE shipped million+ units across 9 model years.
It, however, had piston ring and oil return hole issues that TSB was issued for:
2007-2009 Camry
2007-2011 Camry Hybrid
2007-2008 Solara
2009-2012 Corolla
2009-2013 Matrix
2006-2008 Rav4
2007-2010 Scion Tc
2008-2015 Scion Xb
They're also shipping the V35 across ~400k units and 8 model years.
This motor, however, has con-rod and main bearing issues that are ongoing.

Lastly, from my experience working at a supplier for domestic OEM, powertrain teams are given fuel economy, power, refinement, and cost targets to meet overall program goals.
While Ford has its own financial and management issues (see CD6 program spec/timeline/cost slip), IMO Toyota's powertrain team have failed to meet their targets
While thermal efficiency is excellent in Dynamic Force family (40%+ ... their Mazda investment paid off), each powertrain 'package' has shortcomings:
Tundra hybrid is fine with the "Toyota reliability tax".
Though it has worse acceleration, fuel economy (3MPG), payload (200lb), tow (700lb), and cost performance ($5k) than Powerboost F-150, it seems fairly reliable (so far immune from issues affecting gas-only models) and cheap to own with NiMh battery.
Tundra gas is really bad. Took 11 years to release a TT V-6 that's worse in every way than Ford's MY11 3.5 Ecoboost.
It combine bottom end issues with performance (HP and TQ) and fuel economy deficit, though the transmission is probably more dependable than 10R80.
In midsizers like GX, the V35A is this is compared to Bronco/Ranger 3.0T which has 70 more HP for the same fuel economy.
Tacoma hybrid variant of T24 is great for midsizers but just 'ok' overall.
Although it has worse fuel economy and power than F-150 Powerboost, it was designed to a different cost target, compares well in its class and seems fairly reliable so far.
In midsizers (Land Cruiser), this is the midrange powertrain comparable to the Ford and GM 2.7T which both have less factory HP and fuel economy.
Tacoma gas-only variant of T-24 seems like a miss.
It compares poorly to Ford 2.7T V6 and my complain about the insane NVH is shared with reviewers.
With similar EPA fuel economy, it's down on power to the 2.7T (279 vs 310 stock or 355 warrantied tune, TQ is similar)
When compared to the Ford 2.3T (which I think has really poor driveability), stock power/fuel economy are comparable BUT
... Tacoma NVH is so bad that even the Chief engineer of Tacoma said they detuned the engine to mate it with a manual transmission in the Tacoma due to crank shaft hammering lmao.
Though NVH doesn't seem to deter buyers though since even RX sales numbers are up, you really wanna buy a powertrain package that had to be detuned?
Ford on the other hand is offering a warrantied 2.3T tune for 330/385lbft ... paired to Bronco 7MT.

Okay so buy a F-150 Hybrid then.
I've got 9 of them in my vehicle fleet so far. All of them 2023 models. 4 of them randomly won't start which has rendered them useless for remote site work Ford can't figure it out, they've all been in for warranty for months now. One dealership closed the hood really hard and it started after and he tried to tell us that might be the solution going forward.
Don't even get me started on their gas consumption and cam phasers on the couple years old 3.5's and oh yah the sunroofs that are all guaranteed to leak around the rivets that Ford thought would be a good idea to put through the drain tray so that the drain tray leaks when the rivets loosen over time.
Newsflash: every vehicle has problems. Every Ford truck in our fleet is a complete piece of shit but there's no other choice when they're the lowest bid. Congrats on the warranteed 2.3 EcoBoost, too bad it's inside the vehicle equivalent of a trash can. You're complaining about NVH and then you list the BRONCO like it's to be looked up to? Jesus Christ, I nearly went deaf riding in one of those from Vancouver>Seattle>Vancouver.

"Judging by the codes, which have surfaced on a forum, it would seem that the cause of the issue is a stuck pressure control solenoid actuator, or a torque converter clutch actuator being frozen in the off position. If your Tacoma displays one of the codes, Toyota will replace the entire transmission and torque converter assembly.

Every single person I know who has an F150 with 5.0 coyote has had zero problems since day one.
An actual engine, with actual power, that doesn’t get that much worse mileage than these tiny “modern” engines

Yep we have a 2015, no issues except for rear main seal and transmission leaks. Steering motor went out a couple months ago tho

My buddy who does the transmission rebuilds at his dealer has a stack of 10-20 pending 10R80 rebuilds

We never bought any 2.7, they only got the F-150 on tender in 2023... I would say none of them are old enough.
We have had issues with 2 of them in Williams Lake that won't start, like completely dead as if the battery isn't even connected and they were towed to Ford for diagnosis... 3 different dealerships now and they can't figure it out. 1 of them the problem just wen away and hasn't come back but the other one is intermittent and the only way they can fix it is by slamming the hood really hard lol... lends one to believe that it's faulty wiring somewhere, but no luck with it yet.
Understandably the guys are afraid to drive them out into the bush for fear it will randomly not start, so they've been a bit of a disappointment that way. We have 8 other ones though that have been fine. I would say from my end I notice that with the heavy feet of drivers who probably operate under the "It's not MY car" mentality that the mileage is worse than the 5.0 ironically... they drive too aggressively for the hybrid motor to operate on its own and the turbos run so rich under boost.
I'm done with that place in a week though, they won't let me work remote, so good luck to them haha!! I'll tell the guys to prep for a new tranny lolol

I'm at '96k on my 2014 5.0. I did the brakes 3 or 4 years ago and the water pump last year. Those have been the only real issues in the 6 years I've owned it.

This sounds more like general maintenance than issues!
