donk.'s Past Time Car Review Thread

Saw this post from donk. on the Craigslist Good Buys thread the other day and thought it was a great idea.
The delslow may not be JDMdreams cup of tea, or many others, but me n Traum seem to have the same epic memories of the car.
If anyone remembers my blue delslow, and wants to burn more time looking at a screen, I had a thread on it a decade ago. I LOVED that car, and heavily regretted selling it.
https://honda-tech.com/forums/honda-civic-del-sol-1992-2000-1/93-sir-del-sol-marina-build-3117857/page2/
Transtop issues, subwoofer rear storage compartments, damages, wheels, CONVERTIBLE ROOF RACK, ugh so good
Then I sold the car, who made (or someone made for him rather) this video:
https://youtu.be/Umibec3tQn8?si=k8KJT4VB59CW0joJ
Me and my buddies talked heavy shit about the new owner for years about that video LOL
And eventually it was sold again, and someone rolled the car and wrote it off (I'm sure someone on here has a link)
I feel like this forum is missing a past time "car review" thread.
Every pro review you ever read of a car is some contrived piece, driven while it's brand new, after just a couple hours driving it up and down the street. Hardly tells you what it's really like to own, and what makes it special. And they're conflicted in speaking the truth anyway for fear of having press car privileges removed (i.e. what happened to Chris Harris). And they write what you want to see, to get the views.
I figure we've collectively owned a ton of cars over the years, done stuff to them, and not only have we had them long-term and driven them in all kinds of conditions, we can make comparisons against other stuff we've had which'll give relative context.
Feel free to optionally re-post stuff you'd already written somewhere else.
Let's go! :D

OKAY MANG, i start

2010 Maserati GranTurismo S.
Bought it in 2010 and owned it till 2019 where i sold it for a steal at $60,000. During those 9 years, ive only put on 44,000kms. Also probably cost me ~40-50,000 dollars of dealership maintenance. Biggest bill was for 22k in one go.
That car was an exercise in burning money. It burned a shit ton of fuel, it burned rear tires like its eating bon bon's and it had an unhealthy obsession with fire. It really wants to be one of those self immolating italian exotics but due to all the heavy handed maintenance I did on it, the worst it ever got was the seat heaters caught on fire. My passenger seat was replaced when it erupted into flames. Thank goodness tiny spy balloon wasn't on it.
Performance: Slower than most people thought. 0-60 in like 4.7ish seconds. BUT MY GOD THE SOUND. It likes to tramline quite a bit but on a backroad or sea to sky to whistler, it settles in with full confidence. Didnt really race with it as its was a GT car. Longest distances ive ever done was taking it down to seattle where i got pulled in immediately for suspected drug dealing. The steering was godly. Hydraulic, perfectly weighted and super communicative. Brakes were strong, quite fade resistant. Chassis was sublime. its basically a modified QP5 which Ferrari made absolutely sure lived up to its standards.
Interior: A bit bland, but the smell. That italian leather smell never went away. If you ever get a chance, go sniff a Maserati. Something different about the way italians do leather. We just bought a Italian sectional recently and they have that similar smell.
Yes buttons got sticky, whatever, all ferrari products had that at the time. No bluetooth, navigation sucks, infotainment sucks, no backup cameras only lousy sensors. Backseats are surprisingly roomy for a coupe
Exterior: gorgeous to me. The earlier GT's were the ones to get i think as the lines were perfectly scalped. The later ones had a bit too many vents and cutouts. Ruined the GT classy look. Its designed by pinninfarnia and built at a time under ferrari ownership. They (As in Luca Montezemolo aka Enzo 2.0) wanted Maserati to be the gentlemen's ferrari. I think they nailed it with the Quattroporte gen 5 and the GT. All the newer maserati's are some bastardized products. I had their concept drawings on my wallpaper for a while. When it was finally released i spec'd it just like the concept

Reliability: LAWL. Well it never left me stranded. In all honesty it was a great car. it had a lot of character. The check engine light likes to stay on for 5 minutes after you start the car (they all did that) just to troll you. For those 5 minutes you stare at it, praying to jebus that it doesnt stay lit so you dont have to pay 10-20k worth of bullshit.
Value: UTTER JOKE. paid 180k new out the door. 9 years later, 44,000kms on it, got back 60k. The new owner is one lucky motherfucker.
Would i do it again? HELL YES. My only mistake was getting it dealer serviced. I thought it would help maintain its value (kinda) but the difference between mine perfectly dealer maintained maserati and one that was shaddy tree'd was 20k, or basically the same price as my worst dealership raping. If you were to buy one, just take it to a good independent. Then you get all the benefits and none of the downsides. The overall drive train (4.7 engine / ZF tranny) are pretty stout, never had any issues with that. The interior bits and pieces are typical italian.
DO IT, BUY ONE AND LET ME COME BORROW IT. I tried to replicate my GT with the ratrolla (similar formula) but its not even close. it lacks that.... fire

We didn't need a car but wife's company had a company car policy which paid for the lease/finance of a car that's 5 years new so we went and picked up a Mini Cooper.
We did a 4 year lease on a well optioned Cooper after test driving the regular and a S, which cost her company roughly $400 a month. The out the door price was $30k after discounts and taxes. Our buyout after 4 years was $14k. This car was released to market in 2014 and the body style is still on sale today. I think the only options we didn't have was leather seats, backup camera, premium audio, and alcantara headliner.
The goods:
As a first new car for the two of us, iDrive was easy to use and provided a ton of features that my MS3 did not have. The trunk was small, but once we folded down the rear seats we could fit our snowboards inside the back when we went snowboarding. We could fit full size adults behind me in a pinch but it wasn't the most comfortable. The seat heaters were amazing, and compared to a lot of other cars which didn't get hot enough, and didn't get hot quick enough, this was great.
We loved the red with white top look and the car handled well enough. The 3 cylinder snarled without being obnoxious and it was quick enough for what it is. When I added the Dinan tuner it really flew. We liked the little design touches such as the toggle switches and the large sunroof.
The neutral:
This falls more inline with observations that aren't really good or bad.
The key was dumb. The actual functionality of the key is about 50% the size of the actual key, but the Mini's key has a huge round plastic bumper around it to fit into the brand's aesthetics.
The handling was tuned quite aggressively. Being a FWD BMW product, the suspension tuning was neutral edging towards oversteer if aggressive with trail braking. The car's dynamics was designed so that DSC was used a lot to keep the car in check and if it did not have that system and some one who isn't as experienced with performance driving was pushing the car, it will bite. Multiple times under evasive or aggressive maneuvers on the road, I felt the DSC system kicking up and pulling the car straight as the backend wanted to come around. This dynamism meant I had the handling prowess to keep up with a 991 GT3 through some twisties and I got a big thumbs up from the 991 driver.
The dual clutch transmission wasn't as fast as I thought it would be, and had some of the low speed problems most other dual clutch systems have.
The bad:
Warranty claims... holy shit.......... The car was at the dealer at least twice a year in the 3.5 years we had it and I drove almost every model in Mini's range as loaners because of that. I was on first name basis with the service manager and he dealt with me personally because the car was in so damn much.
- Climate control system drain was backed up, flushed and updated with new parts
- Upper engine mount failed and replaced
- Lower engine mount failed and replaced
- Boost sensor failed and replaced
- Climate control system drain was backed up, flushed and updated with new parts #2
- Rear brake calipers seized
- Front brake calipers seized
- Rear hatch seal replaced by TSB
- Wiper cowl replaced with updated part
- Headlight trim failed and replaced
Those are the things that I remembered and I think there were a few more things I don't. Though I guess the car never left me stranded. The worst of it was when the boost sensor failed and it was running open wastegate and built no boost. Car had to down shift on the highway to maintain 110km/h when going up a slight incline when it would have effortlessly done that normally.
Other complaints.
The "Sensatec" fake leather sucks. It's soft and in normal circumstances it's fine. On a hot day though it was sweaty and did not breathe, much worse than real leather.
Resell value was terrible.
The funnies:
I drove the car a lot since I sold the MS3 shortly after we took delivery of the Mini. It being red and white, pink license frames, and cat stickers meant lots of guys wanting to check me out expecting a girl. I would look over and smirk because there's an ugly Chinese dude looking back at them most of the time :nyan:
We still liked the car a lot, and wife misses it tons. Traded it in at 3.5 years for a X3 because we had a kid coming and the car seat didn't fit in the Mini. I tried. If it fit I think we might have kept it. It also gave me a "loyalty discount" when I ordered my M3, which was nice.

The good:
- Attracts men
- Good on gas
- Depletes the O-zone layer
The bad:
- Made of post-war soup cans
- Attracts men "I used to have one", "Is that a 510?"

That’s crazy with that Gran Turismo. Always loved those cars though imo fantastic styling and a really cool looking roadster type shape with the big front end/hood, love the AMG GT so I guess I have a style
That maintenance though is insane… like obviously if you’re buying a 200k car you’ve got money to absorb some heavy maintenance (or should anyways) but at that price point, for that car, you’d think you’d be able to drive it a fair bit/often and not have to have the maintenance of cars that are 2x3x5 times the cost

2002 LEXUS SC430
Some backstory: So back in 2002 I was in langara for first year college (cheaper than going straight to university), this Asian guy showed up with in a white sc430 with this smoking hot blonde girlfriend. He parked in front of me and he seemed like the happiest guy on earth.
I was driving my dads Sentra XE (manual door locks, manual windows, no air con) and i was a big, fat, single nerd who played way too much starcraft. After seeing that dude roll up, I wanted to be that guy. Basically this is the car that lit a fire underneath my ass to improve my life and cemented Lexus in my mind as an aspirational brand.
I finally bought one in 2016 for $9,800. It was an 2002 EX USA car, probably had like 3-4 owners but a clean carfax. Everything worked, and continued to work during my entire ownership (written off in 2019)
Performance: 3UZ-FE, an evolution of the historic 1UZ-FE that was in the LS. Velvety smooth v8, the only engine rated for aircraft usage due to its ultra low vibrations. 288hp, 317ft/lbs is quite adequate for daily use. Lexus put a very very restrictive exhaust system so it sounds completely muted even at redline. Steering was very heavy, but very numb. Suspension feels like its broken. Not sure why they would tune this car with such a harsh ride given its nature but i guess thats the "sports" part of the Sports Coupe (SC). It can take corners, but you feel the weight and the body rolls quite a bit.
Interior: GORGEOUS. Real thick Spanish leather. Honestly the best and thickest leather ive ever experienced in any car. This was right after the japanese economic bubble burst so it was designed/built during the tail end of the glory days where money was no object and they were able to spend something stupid like 1 billion dollars on the first LS.
The wood is thick, and they had likes yacht like features where you press a button and it covers up all the infotainment with this 2inch walnut veneer.
Take a look at most of these 2002 SC430's that are on sale. The interior really held up well for an almost 25 year old car.
Exterior: hahahah..... 68style said he couldnt tell which end is the front end. Other people said it looks like an upside down bathtub or a melted potato. WELL YOURE ALL IDIOTS. Its not a melted potato, its EPIC looking. its a very very distinctive shape. nothing before or after ever looked like this. Long overhangs, super low green house makes it look like a custom tuner car. I really like it! i like it more with the top up because it looks more organic.
Reliability: probably the most reliable lexus to ever lexussusuus. After my silver one was written off, i found a white one and bought it for my father in law. His was just as bulletproof as my old one. Everything works, try saying that about a 20+ year old german car.
Value: Brand new this was 80k back in 2002. Or basically over 120k today with inflation. To get one for around 10-20k is an absolute steal if you want a taste of old school toyota.
I loved mine so much i wrote a reader review on truthaboutcars

My turn.
1992 BMW 325i
colour: White
Sample pic of an E36:
https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20230912/742c5b62421739316104bca798541a40.jpg
This was my first buy of a European car from zee Germans. The E36 was a private sale between me and my god mother back in 1998. She and her husband, my god father, and their kids, were heading back to Hong Kong.
Low mileage: 7000km. -bought the E36 for $5000.
Performance: This 325i had a five speed automatic transmission. No surprise that this Bavarian sedan was slow off the line for a heavy car. 189 hp, inline six engine. Acceleration was pretty good for passing other cars thanks to the good torque from the engine.
Exterior design: I loved this car! A white exterior made this 325i great looking. -went on many dates in this E36. -got admiring glances from pretty Asian girls (called the LGs at that time haha). Unfortunately, there were no smoking hot blondes in any stories related this E36 like the cars that Badhobz mentioned in his posts haha.
Interior design: I would say that Beemers had some quirks in the placement of common switches and buttons at that time. For example, all the window switches are on the center console on both sides of the shifter. As for the quality of the leather seats, they were pretty good. Smooth like butter. They did not have the leather smell like the leather interior in Maseratis though haha.
In addition, the doors unlock when you pull on the door latch. No power door lock buttons on the door panels that's for sure haahaa.
The interior lighting for the speedometer and trip computer was a light orange colour. -reminded me a bit of the orange interior lighting in the older Audis.
Reliability: No major issues with the E36. Engine worked well. As many people know, zee German cars have some electrical issues with their power windows and interior lights. The only electrical issues with my E36 were the reading lights burning out after years of use during my university days.
For example, I did some last minute cramming for some mid term exams by reading textbooks under the reading lights in that E36 back in the day hahah.
Maintenance: BMW can stand for Break My Window. This car was more like Break My Wallet. First, the 325i guzzles premium gas. Fortunately, my Dad found an independent dealer who specialized in fixing German cars at competitive prices. -saved me from getting gauged by the dealerships haha.
Sale of the E36: The E36 was driven from 1998 to 2013. Mileage was at about 195 000 km at the time of sale.
-sold the E36 to one of the local Beemer dealerships in 2013.
What was the final price of the sale? 2000 bucks.
I think that I got a good deal from the sale of the E36 given that there were serious issues with the car. To this day, I cannot believe that I was able to sell the car.
What was the issue with the E36 at the time of sale? Gas fume leaks from the fuel tank. You could literally smell some gas fumes going into the interior.
-still do not understand how that manager for pre owned vehicles at the dealership did not smell gas inside the car when he turned the ignition. :lawl:

Last one i swear. As you can see below i do have an odd collection of wack-ass cars that i like.
https://i.postimg.cc/tJs1YMMH/IMG-3961.jpg
2010 Nissan Cube SL
I dont know what the fuck i was smoking the day i leased this.
I had the maz at home, i thought HEY I NEED A FUN DAILY. What is utterly retarded and hilariously different? why not a JDM as fuck looking Cube!? I was one of the first people who bought it and it GOT A LOT OF ATTENTION. like a RIDICULOUS amount of attention mostly from crazy girls who stop me in the middle of the road to take pictures
I guess its really really cute, but its also hella functional. It had a side-opening rear door, fold-down backseats, and a huge interior.
Performance: give me a fucking break. 1.8L 4 banger with a CVT. It drove like piss, it wobbled around and droned like crazy. The interior was pretty low rent and it the coarse engine transferred vibrations and sounds into the rattly ass cabin. Brakes were shit, handling was shit, and basically everything was shit.
Interior: it had this piece of dash "fiber" that looked like shag carpet. Nissan specifically gave out a warning telling people not to put anything on that mat as things might go flying. I always threw my phone on that mat and it ALWAYS WENT FLYING.
https://drewripley.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/cube-interior.jpg
Basically the inside was like a playskool toy. Plastic shit everything. I tried to class it up by adding JDM curtains to both sides and pleather seat covers. It looked a bit better but they didnt really hold up to extended wear. The HVAC controls looks like a woman's birth control pill wheel
https://static.scientificamerican.com/sciam/cache/file/06666041-4A50-4F01-BAAB72610193C23C.jpg
Exterior: CUTE. Like if i squished my chihuahua's faces together into a cutey wootey pie face and then smoked opium, id come up with something like this. It was love at first sight. The first gen JDM cube was hilarious looking, and this was a good follow up to that. The only exterior thing i added was HID's to blind all the motherfuckers who stared at this rolling block of idiocy.
Reliability: Never had an issue. But i only had it for 3 years (36 month lease). I hear horror stories about nissan CVT's but i never experienced any of that myself.
Value: pretty cheap, less than 30k for the loaded SL. Leased it for less than 300 bucks a month and ran on 87. I drove it to edmonton for a road trip and it sipped fuel.

I wish I could contribute to this thread, but I still own the cars I like the most and have had the most fun and memories with.
All my previous cars were beaters (Which in hindsight was a good thing because it gave me lots of experience in working on cars), not having much money before getting set in my career:
1984 Audi 5000 Wagon: While the Mustang was technically my first car, this was my first "daily" car. I had to get a car for a coop job when I was 19 and a "family friend" offered this one up for a "good deal". It was trash. I had it for about 3-4 months before it shit out its transmission near Porteau cove on the way to Whistler. I don't even have any pictures of this car when I owned it because I'd rather forget it.
1987 Celica GTS (5spd):
This is the car where I learned to drive stick. It was pretty beat when I bought it. Again, needed a car for the job I had, but didn't have a lot of money. It went through a quart of oil a week, had lots of problems. Owned it for a year or so before it spun a rod bearing and I sent it to the wreckers. In the short time I had it, I put quite a few miles on it.
1985 Civic Sedan (5spd):
Affectionately named "Old Boggy" by my wife, due to the Carburetor and manual choke (although once warmed up it ran like a top). It replaced the Celica and got me faithfully and reliably from Richmond to BCIT every day, until it didn't, and one morning on my way to one of my finals the water pump locked up, took out the timing belt and pistons kissed the valves.
I actually fixed that, and the car ran pretty good for the next 2 or so years. When I first moved to the island it drove me up and down the Malahat every day for about 8 months. Even put some 15" ATS wheels that my uncle had sitting in his basement from an old VW Rabbit he used to own on the car, and it didn't look half bad.
I had a little bit of fond memories for this car, if it wasn't for the massive rust killing the back wheel wells I might have tried to keep it around.
Dis-Honorable Mention, 1989 Ford Mustang LX Coupe 4-cylinder (5spd) :
This was my wife's first car, her brother actually just straight up gave it to her because he could never quite catch the hang of driving stick. So I took her down to Mitchell Island and taught her over an afternoon (the secret to teaching your wife how to drive is to use someone else's car). By the end of the afternoon, she had no problem driving up 20th in New West. Other than that, this car was absolute trash. It was horrible, and unengaging to drive and completely impractical compared to the Civic. Once I bought the Speed 3 we sold this car and she drove the civic around.

I’m getting tired of hearing myself as I’m sure you guys are as well. So I’ll make it short… ish
With the cube gone, and now down to a grey ratrolla LE (288 a month, zero down 36 months) and the garage queen maderati, I thought why don’t I get a real sports car. Ya know the one that everyone seems to like, that fucking VW Beetle flat 6 piece of shit. I read the reviews, saw that the 997 was a bit too pricey (a whopping 80k at the time for a c2s) and thought I’d save a buck or two and buy a 996.
I decided the regular base 911 wasn’t spicy enough because of course I can handle it. I drive an ego inflating Italian exotic. What’s the worst this hitlermobile can do to me ? So I opted for the carrera s. I kinda thought the targa looked cool or the vert but ultimately decided to get a pure-er experience with a stick shift 996 cs.
Caveat: I’ve never tracked anything, I barely drove stick and learned on my buddies Mazda mx-6. I bought it from the Porsche dealer for 40k with 40,000kms on it and full service record.
Proceeded to drive it home and almost died twice as it was raining and the fucker liked to step out mid corners. Traction was on, but tires were original so I guess half worn. I honestly thought that thing was broken. I carefully drove it home and then the following day took it back to the dealer. The sales guy promptly showed me how to properly drive a 911 and then said this was normal. I was like why is the front so light ? Why is it when I breath on the throttle the ass comes around ? He’s like you just need to learn how to drive it properly.
Nope. This ham fisted chinamen never figured it out. I tried to adjust but ultimately was too scared to do anything. Took it to Squamish and had some Pooh and pee come out involuntarily.
Sold it less then a year afterwards for 35k.
To this day: fuck 911s. It’s the cars fault. Definitely not my shitty driving skill. 1000%

No way the GTS was dangerously slow ! That thing was a rocket ship compare to my joe dirt Nissan Sentra. Our clapped out civics DXs would have bowed down to that 2zz godly 180hp
maybe saying it was dangerously slow is abit harsh but sure as hell not godly lol its not the same 2zz as in the lotus

honestly, the 2 engines were very similar to me. VTEC kicks in harder and louder than VVTL-i. the only reason the celica was so slow is because the 4 speed auto really robbed the 2zz of it power. like all hondas the itr had much more aftermarket support and responded to engine mods alot better

Nope. This ham fisted chinamen never figured it out. I tried to adjust but ultimately was too scared to do anything. Took it to Squamish and had some Pooh and pee come out involuntarily.
To this day: fuck 911s. It’s the cars fault. Definitely not my shitty driving skill. 1000%
You need to go back and try a 991 or 992. Zee Germans engineered the shxt out of that inherently inferior drivetrain layout, and now it handles so well that any ham-fisted Chinaman can still drive it like a hero. Leave the traction control on, and the rear end will never step out on you! Turn the traction control off, and if you still fxxk up, the German engineering gods will still come save you from spinning the car and embarrassing their talents. And PDK is better than the 7-speed manual too.
Plus it'll get you the smoking hot blonde GFs. And your aunties will approve.
Do it~! (and give us another write up afterwards)

I’ve driven the 991. I wasn’t impressed. This sounds snobby and conceited as hell coming from such a shitty driver as myself but the supposed magic of the 911 is lost when it’s this accessible. If my wife can drive the 991 everyday then it’s dead to me. It’s basically every other GT car now except it still looks like a god damn modified vw beetle.
The older 911s, especially air cooled were straight up widow makers. People like the producer / skunkworks must be driving gods because they seemed to have contained this snappy, ass backwards little beast.
Either way Im still not a big fan. Even less now that the brand became saturated by housewives and douche bags who are somehow even worse drivers than me (is that possible ?!) and have Porsche snobbery on par with tesla groupies. Fuck that shit. You can keep the porsche tax, I’ll be driving my ratrolla while mouthing Gran turismo noises

The 2ZZ ceiling is lower than the same era K20 because imo the 2ZZ is more like a B18C5 but with add variable valve timing instead of just big/small cam switch over. I treat them like B series < 2ZZ < K20. Alas the Honda engines have a lot more aftermarket support and experience, thus the peak HP from a 2ZZ is roughly on par with a B18. K20 just decimates all as you can get 240whp on that thing all engine. 2ZZ and B18 you can get 210 if you are lucky. The other thing is B series still enjoys a ton of aftermarket whereas the 2ZZ is pretty much dead on development, they peaked over a decade ago.

I wonder if the alignment on your 996 was a bit off. The 996 was supposed to be a lot more tamed compared to the 993, and the 993 was more tamed than the older ones. And extra half a degree of toe out on the rear will fuck you up easily.

The Celica GT-S should have never come with an automatic transmission... I currently have a 2003 GT-S (6psd manual) and it's no drag car off the line, but if you keep it boiling the power/weight combo on the highway is pretty decent. The L in the VVTL-i hits satisfyingly hard/sounds pretty thrilling when you've got your boot into it in 2nd/3rd gear.

my initial experience with 2zz: surprised at half decent low-end torque for a 1800cc that revs to 8500 and couldn't tell if it was tuning, gearing or light chassis...then finally ascending a proper hill in 3rd gear at like 70, felt the zero torque lol
the crossover is silky smooth and pulls well on-cam, but i miss the vtec drama and the last 500rpm howl
i still remember the ITR being a bit more violent in engine feel..but the elise conveys more sense of speed sitting like few inches off the ground

It could be. The original owner threw on a turbo bodykit to make it look a bit different than the standard affair 996. Also had some pretty wide tires so it wasn't unmolested.

1992 RHD, 1993 SR, and 1994 base, Honda Prelude
Price paid all 200-260kms
94 base - 700$ (2011?)
93 SR - 1200$ (2012?)
92 RHD - 2400$ (2017?)
Cars were so good i had three of them
Good
-Cheap on gas
-Somehow this was my quickest car at auto-x a decade ago.
-The seats....... my god the seats...... its like sitting on a microfiber couch made of clouds. I dont know if any other car i have driven has seats this good.
https://live.staticflickr.com/7025/6426880793_ab3edde7dc_b.jpg (https://flic.kr/p/aMVrKx)
-One of the few cars of its era with an LED/leon dash for temp/fuel, and how it stretched all the way from left to right.
-The car was too much fun to drive, minimal roll, lots of power for the cost
-Plenty of parts on ebay and CL to rice them out
-Sunroof, havent had a car with a sunroof in years.... :(
Bad
-2 of 3 had the starter board fail. A solder joint on a board that would have a hairline crack, causing a very intermittent no start. Worst time was when we were catching a ferry, and the dam thing decided to die out. Easy fix once diagnosed.
-Rear brake calipers would seize up during winter, going into a full lock. Managed to put the RHD into a ditch going up cypress :toot: OR MAYBE i should have done maintenance on it......
-Rear seats are useless, should have never had them.
-Oil leaks galore on the 94 base
Entertainment
-Useto do ALOT of stupid shit in my cars. There is a bridge somewhere near pitt meadows lake. Its a 50 or 70 zone, one time we did 90 over it with noone around, and you could feel the car slightly lift off the ground.
So we joked about next time doing 120 to get some air.
We came back probably a month later, and yup 120 got us off the ground. Probably a second or two of air time. All 4 shocks bottomed out once we "landed".
I checked the car when i got home, you can see the 3 bolts holding the shocks in the engine bay to the frame, the shocks bent both sides about 1/2", permanently damaging the frame of the car. If im not mistaken, one of the three bolts on each side ripped the metal.
The next morning i also had a flat as a bonus.
-Slapped on a 5zigen exhaust onto the SR, probably the only exhaust i have ever installed on a car, that did not sound like a lawnmower. Me and my buddies called it the rocket because the entire interior would feel like a rocketship with its deep ass tone BrokeBack
Would i own one again?
Oh hell yeah. For sure top 5 cars. :drunk:

Why?
-I saw this truck on CL, and it was mid summer, so i decided to do a minor restoration.
Price in 2020?
-The dude posted it for like 1200$, i offered 600$, he accepted, and i gave him an extra 100$ to drive it over to my place. Win Win. (first pic was his ad on CL)
Bad
-Where do i start lol...................
-Holes in the bed, see photo above. Literally a "flinstones" car.
-Gauge cluster does not work
-Ripped seats, loose mounts
-Paint could use some "touch up"
-Roof had holes
-The list was endless, this was literally the definition of shitbox. But i needed a hobby for summer
-Horrible on gas
-No AC... it was mid summer. Hawaii vibes yo
Good
-Nice sound for an old truck, pulled good.
-Big ass bench seat, could easily bang on it. but i was single :okay:
-Never drove a "classic" truck before, was a unique experience.
-Restored the paint, interior, electronics, bed, holes, engine bay tidyness, etc, was alot better once it felt less shitbox-e
-Some stoner showed up and bought it in under 20 minutes. Quickest sale of a car i have ever had.
- Great way to fill up a dozen hours during my summer, well worth the 600$ + repair costs
-Shitbox appeal 10/10
Would i own one again?
As a hobby car? Yes
As a daily? Nope

This was also the one created before the Japanese bubble burst so they threw in all kinds of wacky shit like 4 wheel steering and a sunroof (that doesn’t open I believe).

Yeah, I test drove one, the interior was bland, and had no power until v-tach kicked in.
The same week I drove a Z4 3.0, and the Z4 blew the s2000 out of the water. Way more low end power + nicer interior sold me, also had heated seats, and that was a first for me at the time.
With that said, s2000 is still on my list of cars to own. Il be posting my Z4 review on here next probably

catching up on RS before bed post
2006 nissan 350z BASE
styling: may not have aged well but for its time it was pretty stylish. imo, simply a drop and wheels is all it really needed.
power: axle back exhaust and intake, did it for the sound. on paper the z is suppose to be fast but its weight made it feel very sluggish. the 10.5s with 285 with stock power doesnt help.
handling: very responsive with good road feel. very fun on spirited drives but never pushed hard due to height.
interior: very driver focus. i loved how the gauge cluster moved with the steering wheel so it was always in sight regardless of driving position. sea of cheap plastic and easily scratched touch points.
practicality: 2 seater, rwd, slopping roofline with huge strut brace thingy in the trunk... definitely not a good daily.
reliability: one of my highest km cars ive owned at 140k. never gave me any problems from day one of my ownership.

Ok, here goes!
'08 R56 Mini Cooper S
laser blue; 6MT; leather; sport package
https://i.imgur.com/xY6lHGqh.jpg
This car was like a great pair of flip-flops. Good, frugal, casual fun. You go in with pretty low expectations in every regard including price, but you come away surprised by the utility, flat cornering, open feeling interior, and a great feeling of zippiness with its tiny wheelbase, short gearing, and quick-spooling turbo.
Background
In 2015, I found this car at Mini of Marin and paid $13k (USD) for it. It had only 35,000 miles on it, and it was in absolutely mint, showroom-new condition outside and in.
The Drive
8/10
It made 172 hp out of a 1.6L turbo 4-cyl, which at first doesn't sound like a lot, but when you consider it only weighs 2600 lbs, had super short gearing, super quick steering, short wheelbase, low-to-the-ground seating position, it felt plenty quick.
https://i.imgur.com/ODbaspGh.jpg
Even the throttle mapping was tuned to make it feel quick: I remember the throttle response being pretty sharp, and the first 1/3 of the pedal travel gave you nearly all the power, and the rest didn't really do a whole lot.
https://i.imgur.com/72Tdzn2h.jpg
The shifter had this kinda longish throw, but made a kind of satisfying clicking noise as it went into each gate. Not at all the direct feel of an S2000 or Miata, but it wasn't hellish rubbery feel typical of a BMW either. And given the generally laid back feel of the vehicle, it felt pretty ok.
https://i.imgur.com/FUhhI6vh.jpg
Took it out to Buttonwillow and on the first time out, was already happily going 8/10s. Felt super confident, the car is very predictable. Even kept up with a Corvette (with a terrible driver, albeit)!
AND it was excellent on gas!
The Interior
8/10
Quirky as hell. Made the experience fun. From interior chimes going "doot-doot doot-doot", to the fishbowl* giant center-mounted speedo, to the all-around SD-gundam squishy styling of the car inside and out, it just gives you a spunky vibe that always uplifts your day.
*thankfully, there's a digital readout of the speed in the middle of the column-mounted tach in front of you so you don't actually have to look over at the goofy fishbowl thing.
https://i.imgur.com/w9uoHoth.jpg
It has a tiny hatch, barely big enough for any luggage IIRC. But because of this, you get a surprising amount of interior space even in the rear. I regularly carpooled in this car and as a 5'10 dude, comfortably sat in the back a couple time. What makes it so survivable is the panoramic moonroof, which takes up most of the roof. And what's really cool about it, is not only can it slide open, both panes actually vent upwards. Gives it a bit of a hedgehog look imo.
https://i.imgur.com/hJaKOrah.jpg
I remember the doors closed with a solid CLANG like the oldschool bimmers and mercs. The interior panels looked and felt plasticky like a Super Soaker (anyway totally on-theme with the goofy styling), but the body itself felt super super solid. Prior to this (and the GTI prior), I'd had a string of Japanese cars and this German construction was a whole other level for me which I really appreciated.
The Utility
7/10
Again it has a tiny hatch, but at the same time, because you expect this, you intuitively move to fold the rear seats down almost permanently. And with that, you actually get a really surprising amount of trunk space! I made many successful trips to IKEA.
https://i.imgur.com/VEN2H3Yh.jpg
A nice random touch was the headlight sprayers which extended out and jetted a little wash fluid backwards onto the light. Really cool, surprised to realize I had it one day, given the price point.
Ownability
3/10
I say ownability and not reliability because how often stuff breaks and how badly is only one part of the equation, as I would find out: there's also how big a pain it is to get in there to do the work.
I only owned this car 9 months. Why? Within the first month, the clutch went out. And I kind of expected that would happen because even though it had only 35k miles on the clock, something had felt a little off about the clutch. What I didn't expect though, was that it wound up costing me $3000 USD (that's $4000 CAD)! Why? Because the darn thing is so compact that apparently the whole front of the car had to come apart and the motor+transaxle together had to be removed, for them to access the clutch.
So ok, fine, tough luck but still loved the car, life moves on.
But no. Life did not move on, as it turns out. 6 months in, I started getting knocking at wide-open throttle: CEL. Pulled the codes and it was a bunch of stuff about random missfires. Brought it to an independent shop, and then the Mini dealership, and after changing out the obvious (spark plugs, coil packs), nobody could figure out why this was happening.
At some point while the car was with Mini, they said while they couldn't figure out why the misfiring was happening, they did find that oil was starting to leak from somewhere around the turbo. And that everything would have to come out to get at it, which was going to be a couple grand.
At which point, I decided to call it quits and sold it. Since I really liked the rest of the car, I wrestled with the idea of building it, or doing a JCW swap, or something else cool. But the right thing to do was exit. Not only had it only been 9 months, and that was way too much, too quickly, to go wrong on a car with only 35,000 miles on it. And way too damn tight to work on.
The Verdict
Danger Zone. Danger Zone as hell. Do not own without a warranty!!

While my R53 has high miles, it has only had old car problems due to a combination of age, wear and tear, and/or previous owners' delay or neglect in maintenance. It hasn't actually had any of the issues experienced by everyone else here on the forum whose owned a Mini. Keep in mind, there are probably 50 different previous owners of the Mini I have so God knows what was (not) done to it.
You guys probably saw my laundry list of "problems" in a recent post but if you dig through them all, nothing catastrophically failed like exploding cooling systems or electrical problems. To be brutally honest, I don't even know if the supercharger works. And I don't care! :fuckthatshit:
I want the car to die so I can do something fun with it (i.e. engine swap) but it won't die. It's starting to burn a quarter of oil every 1000KM or something so maybe it's a sign. :okay:

Yes, no disputing how good crapple phones are for photos. I tried 3 flagships last winter (pixel 7, galaxy s23, iphone 14pro) and still preferred the iphone shots to all of them.
Galaxy was too saturated and warm, even with tone adjustment it looked off. Its night mode also sucked major and the autofocus was a joke.
Pixel binning was too strong. Even though it had a lot of megapixels it binned it down to a small file and it it was also on the cool side. dynamic range sucked. The quality was also hit and miss with each shot.
Crapple was the most consistent overall and pro-raw 48megapixel actually works quite well. Considering how much i dislike crapple as a company, im still completely locked into their ecosystem now.

Nice! Ok now what'll it take to get you brainwashed on Porsche :troll:

I'm going to start with the car that I have the most history with, and the one that I still miss to this day:
2010 VW GTI MK6, DSG
History
I was looking for my true "first car" that wasn't a hand me down from my parents (2000 Honda Civic EX, anyone?). Originally, I went to look at a 2009 Civic Si 4-door, but my lack of manual driving skills and the fact that no one else except my dad knew how to drive stick meant that my parents strongly hinted that I should buy an automatic car so that other family members could use it if needed. In order to sweeten the pot they agreed to kick in some money as DCT-equipped cars during that era were significantly more expensive. The Civic Si that I was looking at retailing at 23k for example, and the GTI and the Mitsubishi Lancer Ralliart (not the Evo, but the detuned version below it) were above 30k.
We went to the Mitsubishi dealer across from Richmond Costco, and they acted like their crap didn't smell, even though the showroom was dead and no one else were really looking. They wouldn't even budge a single dollar on MSRP. At Mitsubishi! My dad got extremely pissed off at the sales guy, and told me that we were going elsewhere. On the way home, we stopped by Clarksdale VW, which happened to have two GTIs in stock - a 2-door manual, and a 4-door DSG. Went to sit in the black 4-door DSG, with less than 100km on the odo, and it immediately felt like home. Everything felt natural and came to hand easily. That interior was such a delightful experience after coming from the hard plastic of the Lancer, and the hatch made it super practical.
The sales guy was a young dude not much older than I was at the time, and clearly another car enthusiast. We got talking, we took the GTI out for a test drive as it was already parked out front. When we came up to the stop light at Cambie & King Ed, he told me to turn off TC/ESP, put the gearbox in S, hold the brake hard, and smash the gas. Launch control when the light went green. I was hooked! This little hatch could pull!
Some negotiating later, I took delivery of that exact GTI one day before my birthday. It was a 2010 4-door GTI in Deep Black Pearl, DSG, with the leather package, and nothing else. Still loved it.
Day 1

I immediately broke it in by going to autocross right after I crossed 1500km on the odo.
Slush Jan 2010
https://i.imgur.com/oPjW96wh.png
Picked up a set of winter wheels and tires from TSS - and then went and did snow auto-x, as well as go to Whistler, Cypress etc.
https://i.imgur.com/YmuTFtIh.png
When it was less snowy, I had a set of Team Dynamics Pro Race 1.2's that I got for the car. Those were some good looking wheels.
https://i.imgur.com/lJFmKM2h.png
There was a Mission track day in there somewhere but I don't seem to have pictures.
I was once two hours late to a date because I was washing the car. True story.
https://i.imgur.com/DlrVs97h.png
I loved that car. It was super practical, had a surprising amount of space, rode really well, and was still incredibly fun to drive (if all that you were used to were Honda Civic, Accords, and Odysseys!). The DSG farts never got old to me, I loved hearing the car upshift. The interior was an incredibly nice place to spend time in. Definitely did not turn off any dates.
Of course, being young dumb and having disposable income, I modified the thing. First things first were the euro tail lights. I was in on the original, very first Mk6 tail light group buy direct from Germany. That came out to be about 650CAD for the tails landed. Still the best mod I ever made for that car.
Good old Pitt Meadows pad, I miss ye.
https://i.imgur.com/gp52Yyvh.png
Tune, intake, exhaust, coils and big RSB got installed on the car eventually, and it kind of ruined the car a bit now that I look back at it. I would approach the modifications list differently now that I have more experience, but at the time I wanted to throw parts at that car lol.
Eventually, I got a job out of town near Prince George, and I felt that the GTI wouldn't do well up there in the snow and wilderness lol. I "sold" it to my brother, and got a Subaru Forester XT.
Years later, I came back to town, and my brother left Vancouver for NY. He no longer needed a car, and I was driving a Ram 1500 which is huge when you drive it around town here. I sold the Ram, regained ownership of the GTI, and drove it a couple years longer. It was like coming back to a childhood friend after years apart. You both had gained some mileage, wear and tear, creaks and noises, but you still meshed well with each other.
I started restoring the car a bit back to stock - my brother had questionable taste in wheels, for example, and doing some neglected maintenance.
https://i.imgur.com/qWXNOkBh.png
https://i.imgur.com/Q4VzfqIh.png
Then, I got the crazy idea to do a TSD rally.
https://i.imgur.com/LC4NQS7h.png
We both survived with no lasting damage, even with a couple of offs into a ditch.
Eventually, the GTI got traded in for the Audi, and I was kind of sad to see it go. But the wifey wanted something larger and comfortable for daily.
https://i.imgur.com/6qXtu5sh.png
I still think about that GTI, and if I didn't have the S2000 I think I might've looked at picking another up. Or a Golf R from that era.
OK, back to the actual review part.
Review
Exterior: This car fixed the fat jellybean look of the MK5 GTI. It had a far more athletic look, with more defined body lines and less of a slab sided look which made the Mk5 look fat and shapeless. The Euro tail lights were a thing of beauty, looking closer to Audi tail lights compared to what North America got, which was bland and uninspired. The headlights were also beautiful, with detailing in the lenses that made the active cornering lights look alive, and of course, the original "Detroit" wheels (which I didn't have) were very striking and bold in their design for the era. The paint quality was superb, and there were lots of nice little touches everywhere a step above most other cars in the class. To be fair, it was more expensive than the others as well such as the Mazdaspeed 3, the Civic Si, and the Cobalt SS. The Mini CS JCW was more expensive, and the WRX was priced the same.
Overall it was very understated and blended in if you didn't know to look for the dual exhaust and the red GTI stripe.
Interior: Very German. Very utilitarian. But it was built very well, and aged very well. I think it's an almost timeless simple design that wasn't busy or overcomplicated. The build quality in the Mk6 was leaps and bounds ahead of the Mk5, which got criticized for the poor interior, and VW responded. The seats are still some of the most comfortable for me, and the flat bottomed steering wheel (rare for the time) aped the Audi R8.
At 12 years old and 160+ KM, my GTI's interior held up well to use and sometimes abuse. The seats had some creases and my butt caused stretch marks but don't we all have lines as we age? I updated the head unit with a Chinese VW OEM unit that had Android Auto and Carplay, took all of 10 minutes and no coding. Brought the car back up into the 2020s, steering wheel controls worked perfectly.
The hatch and the relatively square body shape does amazing things with the cargo space. I managed to fit so much crap in that car that I thought wouldn't fit. I used it to go to the dump when renovating our place, and the people there were amazed at how much we had in the back piled to the ceiling. IKEA runs were no challenge, and four people + ski gear + suitcase fit just fine on trips.
https://media.torque.com.sg/public/2016/02/GTI_2-750x469.jpg
Reliability: It's a German car. You have to keep up with the maintenance. It's never left me stranded, and I never had problems because I was on top of everything. However, my brother wasn't as on the ball as I was. He had a misfire issue, false neutral DSG drop issue, and intake manifold flapper issue.
Misfire was solved by getting new plugs and coils, which it needed as it was due for a plug change anyways.
False neutral DSG issue was solved with DSG service. Also he managed to crack the trans pan going to a cabin somehow.
Intake manifold was replaced (known problem) and issue disappeared. Did walnut blast and other related services during this time but that's the direct injection life.
Other than a slight oil burn (1L per 5000KM which is nothing by VW standards, really) this EA888 was rock solid. Just needed regular maintenance.
Performance: It wasn't fast stock but it wasn't slow either. 200hp/200lb-ft is still plenty, and since it didn't have a LSD the GTI had problems putting down the power sometimes if you launched hard. It wasn't until I stuck RE-71R tires on the car that it could launch reliably without spinning out badly. On the highway it pulled hard, and same on the track. It was eager to turn but ended up in terminal understeer when you hit 8/10ths or higher, especially on track. The brakes were pretty decent. The pads lasted much longer than I expected - well over 80,000km with over 2 dozen auto-x events, a track day or two, and lots of daily driving.
Once you put a tune on it, you unleashed easily another 50hp or so. Stage 2 was good for 270hp and 280lbft with a lot more room under the table, and approached the limits of the stock DSG and FWD traction without adding in aftermarket LSDs. A big rear sway cured some of the understeer but also ruined the ride a little bit as it got quite stiff.
Was it the fastest thing out there? No. Was it the rawest thing out there? Also no. But man the GTI was a great compromise car, and it had some personality to it.
I miss my GTI.

2022 Kia Soul EV Premium
Picked this one up in March 2022 after I determined it was cheaper to daily this than to pump gas into the V8 Camry. Now that both vehicles are no longer with me, I can conclude my math indeed worked out.
Performance:
This Soul EV is not exactly soul-less like its gasoline counterpart. Horsepower on this base-spec is low at 134hp (the more expensive trim has 201hp), but torque at 291 lb-ft is more than a base Model 3 / Model Y (EDIT: this is not true, I had my facts wrong), base EV6, and even the base EV9 (which I call the Soul XL). The combination of horsepower and torque feels adequate for city driving, but it loses steam on the highway - something that the 201hp model makes up for.
Handling is decent in normal driving conditions but falls apart when pushed. The chassis doesn't know what to do with the extra body weight and torque when driven with vigor, and the eco-friendly Nexen tires are easily overwhelmed when they detect any sign of performance driving. The car would benefit greatly from a set of Pilot Sport 5 tires from a handling perspective, but I understand range and efficiency are what sell for an EV. Despite all these criticisms, the mismatched powertrain/chassis specs give the Soul a ton of character that translates to a chaotic but fun driving experience - an attribute missing from most EVs that come well-calibrated from the factory.
https://i.ibb.co/8nyMpB8/IMG-1797.jpg
Range / Charging:
It's officially rated at 238km, but the range guess-o-meter shows 282km in summer and 220km in winter at 90% charge. This estimated range is pretty accurate based on my consumption - I average around 13.5kWh / 100km in the summer, and 18kWh / 100km in the winter with just myself behind the wheel. Like the Niro EV, fast charging caps out at 77kW, but I never tested the limits since I charge at home. A 110V outlet + charger is sufficient to recoup my 40km daily commute with hours to spare overnight.
https://i.ibb.co/TkwQSWM/SoulEV-L.jpg
Exterior:
I was drawn to its mini bread van shape - this is the only small and boxy EV at its price point. It's practical, unassuming, and doesn't draw attention to itself. People seem polarized about its inoffensive design anyway, but I love how it looks. Great visibility is a bonus as well!
https://i.ibb.co/hdz58RR/Soul-EV-05071.jpg
Interior:
The interior has lots of hard plastic, but the areas that matter are soft to the touch. It doesn't feel like a penalty to be inside the vehicle - the cloth seats are somehow more comfortable than my lolvo seats, and the boxy shape with a high roofline helps make the space feel airy. The heated seats get up to temperature super fast and I have to turn them off within 5 minutes 90% of the time. The standard heated steering wheel and driver assistance systems are nice touches as well - I wasn't expecting a car with economy roots to include these features as standard equipment.
Who It's For:
Anecdotally, I find seniors behind the wheel of these most of the time. They're everywhere in South Delta and I can see how the car's technical limitations are non-issues for this demo that drive short distances and charge at home. The footprint and seating height are perfect for these empty nesters, and the low operating costs make this a very appealing package. Overall, the vehicle is very approachable and easy to live with - all the switchgear is where you expect them to be so there's no confusion where things are when behind the wheel.
https://i.ibb.co/zmvqkFz/Final-Range.jpg
Final Thoughts:
The Soul EV is the second cheapest vehicle I've owned, but easily the one I miss the most. It's an NPC car in appearance but hides a quirky personality with an interesting driving signature. It was sad to see the car go, and I got even sadder when the new owner told me that 2023 is the final year for the model. I went into this car simply as a rational decision, and now I'm left feeling slightly emptier with its departure.

2022 LC 500 Convertible (aka ratrolla)
So with the demise of my beautiful GranTurismo i was pretty heartbroken. I dont even know why i sold it... Honestly i think i was smoking some heavy crack that day.
i kept telling myself i was going to go buy that Ferrari Roma or a used 458/488 and just get that damn F car off the list. Seems like a logical step. I was going to trade in the GT at my ferrari dealer and hopefully they would have given me good equity give the service history and low kms.
Now in 2019 the Roma was announced and i thought i could get in for a 2020 model. Those fuckers at Ferrari Maserati Vancouver told me 3 year waitlist and i wasnt able to get on it. Im like DO YOU KNOW HOW MUCH MONEY IVE SPENT WITH YOU !?!!? and they just laughed me out of the building like i was a head taxed chinamen building the Canadian Pacific Railroad.
They also only offered me 45k on my maserati. i was livid. To be honest that horrible experience put me off Ferrari's (although Dark told me i would have been able to get an allocation for the Roma today easily with my spending history, but at that time it was different).
So i was left with no "fun" car but some lousy cash in my pockets. Thus i went shopping. I tried AM vantage v8, the SLS, the SLR, Bentley Conti, you name it, ive probably tried it. Even that horrible 991.2 POS 911 that i talked about before, thats when i gave it another go.
But nothing felt like my maserati, nothing sounded like it. Turbo chargers all sound like hairdryers and not in a good way. If i wanted a good sounding turbo, id spring for a RB28 GTR or something. Hell i even tried American Muscle. Challenger, mustang, Vette (z06 too) and some fast caddies. I honestly liked the vette but it wasnt GT enough, too much of a sportscar.
I honestly wanted to say just fuck it, and buy a RR wraith (lightly used) as it wasnt that much $$$ for a used one. But i drove it and it was horrid. I dont think im that old yet.
While i was bombing around the city trying these different cars i got passed by this guy in a LC500 coupe. I almost forgot this thing existed. I was at the launch event back in 2018 but then it just disappeared from memory.
There were hardly any in the city and i dont think people wanted to pay 120k for this lexus when you could get an GS-F or a RC-F with the same engine for 40k less
https://i.postimg.cc/3wN3jwry/IMG-3163.jpg
Also buying it in 2022 wasnt easy due to the global car shortage as there was absolutely none around. I had a deadline of buying something before sep 2022 as thats when the additional 5% gst would kick in. Didnt feel like sponsoring anymore of trudeau's scandals so i elected to just buy whatever was avalible new or used.
I searched every dealer in vancouver and nobody had one. used ones were selling for more than new. Also the convertible was just released in 2021 (fall) so 2022 was the first actual year the convertible was on sale. The waitlist was 1 year+ according to most of the dealers i talked to.
Luck would have it, i was shopping around burrard and 4th looking at Tesla's of all things and i decided to pop into Regency Lexus for fun. I saw this red on red LC500 convertible but it had ropes around it and a sold sign on it. I asked the sales guy he told me the guy ordered it in 2021 and it finally just arrived. im like wow thats a gorgeous car.
I gave him my card and said if he has allocation for another one or if this guy falls through let me know. And you know what? he dude who ordered it couldnt pass the financing. So i got a call a few days later and BOOM, cheque in hand i went to pick up the car. I didnt drive it, i didnt even sit in it. 11kms on the dial when it rolled out of regency
https://i.postimg.cc/vBgMk8K4/IMG-5017.jpg
So apparently a few days afterwards the guy who ordered this was able to sell some assets and give the financing another shot, but they told him too bad its already gone. To this day i wonder how this dude must have felt. I would have been pretty sad about it.
Oh shit, this is suppose to be a car review....
Performance: The NA v8 is wonderful, about as close to my departed Maz as you can probably get nowadays. It revs high (7300rpm redline) and snarls / bangs pops off the rev limiter. The vavled exhaust do a good job and transmitting the sounds and because its a vert, you get the full auditory experience. The exhaust and engine sounds very technical, race car ish but not farty like an AMG, or a german product.
The chassis and handling is sporty but for sure a GT car (exactly how i like it). Its a bit dead on center but it handles it huge mass very well around corners. I took it up to whistler and it felt very much like my Maz before it. You can easily get it to rotate if you wanted to and the tail comes around progressively with a lot of warning. Dynamically i have no complaints. its comfortable when you want it to be, its sport enough for this old man without breaking my back
Interior: Ive been inside some expensive cars and honestly this is on par with a bentley or a high end mercedes. The AM vantage is garbage inside compared to this as its mostly all cheapy plastic bits. Only downsides are the lack of storage and a usable backseat. Its basically a 2 seater and the other 2 seats are just parcel shelves. The trunk can barely fit a 28inch roller bag
Exterior: loved the look of it since concept and basically they just made the concept car real. Being a huge fan of the SC430, this was right up my alley. The only thing i didnt like about the outside was the lack of some bright colors. I was initally going to order the convertible in yellow but they couldnt do yellow exterior with a red interior or a tan interior. They forced you to go black interior and even if you paid bespoke order, it wasnt possible. So red on red was my second choice anyways and it worked out.
The only reason i wrapped it afterwards was because the same time my buddy's sister bought a mazda 3 in soul red and she said "hey look we have the same car!!!" :okay:
Im hoping all these mazda 3's in soul red will die off and then i can take off my wrap.
I still miss my maz, this is a good facsimile but it doesnt replace it. Everything about the car is good/great but its missing that character, that soul that the maz has. Maybe because it starts up every time, or maybe because its not abusive and you dont need to pray to heathen gods that the check engine light turns off. Or maybe its just so damn competent that its lacking the magic and mystique of a true exotic and thus delegated to the realm of your average toyota.
I dont know, i love it, but im not in love with it. Id probably kill you if you tried to take it though. 7000kms so far and im still not 100% sure if ill keep it for 10 years like i did my previous GT. Its a bit too predictable. I miss the abuse.

A Subaru dealer ended up buying the car so I don't know who they sold it to - it's partly why I ended up with a WRX in the process. The only one I've seen so far with a girl behind the wheel regularly is a blue one.

I believe the bar for Toyota / Lexus financing is higher than most other OEMs, but they're generally lenient as long as your credit is good with a healthy debt-to-income ratio. The dealer must've explored other credit providers before giving up on the sale, so I don't feel bad for the guy if they all passed on him. He's better off without the car at that point.

Oh wow yah... I've seen it 3 times the past couple months in my area of Richmond and it's a girl/woman driving it each time.
Admiring... love the combo. Would like one, but the $60k+ price tag is unreasonable to me for what it is.
The RC-Fs are close enough and prices on those are dropping. They're not at COVID prices yet ($50k with ~40k km iirc), but it should get there if market continues to cool with rising gas prices. It's not as rare as the GS-F but it's largely the same car with mostly the same experience.

Because you can justify spending $1-2K/month with cash but not taking $120K out of your mattress and paying with $100 bill.

i honestly dont know. it was an old white dude apparently and he already threw down a big deposit but still couldnt qualify. I think the rates at that time was around 5% (vs the 8% now) for financing and lease.
I still feel bad about it, i mean if i was that dude id probably be super pissed.
Here's what happened. Probably.
[camera pans across a sun-lit Vancouver skyline]
[zoom into a downtown office tower, through a window, down onto a man typing away at his desk]
Karl M. Davis is 68 years old. He's an attorney. A senior partner at the firm.
[desk phone rings]
Karl picks up.
"Karl you fucken asshole, where are you!"
"Barbara. Please. I am unavailable."
Barbara is Karl's wife of 40 years. She's with the divorce attorneys because she has had enough.
"Karl if you don't show up in 5 minutes I'm taking you for everything you have."
Karl knows there is nothing to take. He works three jobs. He performs unlicensed surgeries behind the building by evenings, and operates a fish farm by weekend.
The phone rings again. It's his son, Roger.
"Karl."
"Father, I am calling you to let you know I have notified the authorities."
"Roger."
"Father. Of your fraud."
"Roger?"
"Father."
[camera zooms close-up, into Karl's face. he's in tears.]
He has been exposed. Writing fake checks in his son's name trying to cover his habit.
His car habit.
[scene cuts to Karl. in bed]
Karl awakes with a start, face beaded with sweat. It was a dream. None of that happened, because -
[scene cuts to a premium looking asian dude]
Fucken guy bought Karl's LC500 out from under him yesterday.
Let's summarize:
-You saved this old man's marriage
-You saved this old man's retirement funds
-You saved this old man's relationship with his only fucken son, Roger, and that's all that mattered to him.

2007 Land Rover LR3 V8 SE
against better judgement i decided to give LR a go... and yikes!
pros: 7 passenger stadium seating with raised roof for extra head room. 3 sunroofs, this was before panoramic sunroof was a thing. split tailgate. tons of off roading modes
cons: reliability and mpg.
how it drove: like it looks, a brick. even with the v8 was pretty gutless and felt like it was going to flip at speed.
what went wrong: 2 air suspension related problem. air compressor went out and level sensor was wonky, towards the end of my ownership i came out to a different ride height everyday. over heated, water pump and thermostat replaced. leaky sunroof/drains easily clogged which lead to the doors not locking and unlocking.
i was looking at the current gen defender when i was car shopping but couldnt pull the trigger on one at the end of the day.

Hah posts crossed. I remember seeing a SavageGeese video talking about this kind of use case: folks wanting the CTR performance and finding daily livability in the ITS.
Is it a marketing issue though that people are going to have to "settle" for "just" a Type-S at that price point? We're conditioned to think that "S" is lesser than "R". Even if Acura says all day long "nono it's not worse or better, it's two different concepts entirely", we have all the history as well as marketing from contemporary other brands.
Should've picked a different letter. How about G. Integra Type-G. :fuckyea:

2003 and 2004 Z4 3.0
Car was so good had to buy a second one years later
https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53194462321_1d88d6f9b7_b.jpg (https://flic.kr/p/2p3Bwo6)
Length of ownership
About a year on both
kms / price
90k - 9500$
And 160k -also 9500$ (5 years later maybe)
The good
-Falls in the top 3 cars that I have ever owned.
-The massive hood in your view, you can feel the power before you even start the car.
-Luxury interior for the year it was, most of my other cars in this age were pretty cheap/basic lookin.
-Low end torque was a new feeling for me, this was also the first "fast" car I had that was a convertible. I remember getting sucked into the seat during the test drive, and was instantly sold.
-No major repairs, then again, I don't own my cars for very long
-Heated seats ResidentSleeper
-This car is a road monster, would grip corners so well.
The bad
-Starter motor failed in both cars, I remember using a rock on both cars to start it - my suspicions after taking it apart https://live.staticflickr.com/7593/17190864592_3a1fdf6491_c.jpg
-Roof motors are notorious for failing on these cars, but only because owners never clear the drain, and or don't properly clear the drains. Due to a design flaw from BMW.
-Then the car amp dies because it floods the trunk, and the trunk does not have a drain. Removed the roof on both my cars, to inspect the motor, one as a preventative measure, and the second because it actually died.
https://live.staticflickr.com/8826/17191088802_418aa30da7_c.jpg (https://flic.kr/p/sc7PLN)
-Prices for parts are batshit expensive. (I was useto like 150$ starters, Honda level pricing you know). Amp = 1300$ used, starter 850$ new, used/reman starter 350$, roof motor, 950$ new. BMW and Mercedes are rich people cars.
-Not many mods available other than wheels honestly.
https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53193997792_427d09f598_b.jpg (https://flic.kr/p/2p3z9hY)
The awesome
-Having driven a fair amount of convertibles, this car simply tops the rest, price/power/features/experience wise.
-Many tanks of gas were burned driving sea to sky on late nights and weekends, 10/10 worth it.
-All the empty Port Coquitlam shipping docks that had endless donut marks from both of these cars, too bad it was always a one wheel mark.
Would I buy one again?
-Oh hell yes, if I did not find my current C7, I was heavily considering a Z4M convertible at the time. Maybe one day......
-Someone on here has a Z4M, they should relay their experience with it.

The roof motor can be replaced without taking off the roof. The pump motor itself is like $65 dollars on Amazon, all you need to do is remove the old bracket/pump and put it on the new one.
I just did one last summer, took 1hr.
https://www.amazon.ca/DIPMOTOR-Convertible-Hydraulic-54347193448-2003-2008/dp/B0B5Z9KCSL/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?crid=1WCNMV7QZW4BE&keywords=E85+roof+motor&qid=1696908104&sprefix=e85+roof+mot%2Caps%2C139&sr=8-1-spons&ufe=app_do%3Aamzn1.fos.b06bdbbe-20fd-4ebc-88cf-fa04f1ca0da8&sp_csd=d2lkZ2V0TmFtZT1zcF9hdGY&psc=1
The E85 Z4 2.5 and 3.0 i/Si is by far my fav convertible. The motor is a real gem, and the car is classy as hell.
Srippy and sporty but definitely on the soft side compared to a real sports car. Muted steering, but the hood doubles as a mirror.

The second car I "peeled" off the rear while still attached to the car, it defs did not take an hr, more like 4hrs from start to finish.
Your telling me you fit your hand behind the driver's seat into the pump well, and removed it right there? I tried that, not possible.... Maybe if someone removed it in the past, and just left it dangling without all the zip ties in place. And it failed again on you
Issue with the above method, is also you have no idea if the drain is still clogged, you replace the motor, without addressing the main issue
Il hire you next time :D

That Z4 was fantastic. Someone that's not me got it for $4200 bucks. It had a salvage title, smelled like fresh paint, had hair in the paint from someone painting it with a brush, had a leaking heater core, and a pair of handcuffs and a fishing rod in the trunk. This one did not have a power top, but we had to do the heater core in it, took 6hrs.
Someone who's not me would pay the security guards during Covid shutdowns in the new industrial parks $40 dollars to patrol elsewhere for a few hrs. Someone who's not me would then set up "Covid motorsports park". We had full-blown race cars attend, drones, timers, cones, lead and follow, and everything.
That car did not have the same number of wheels attached after we were done. Fixed it, did it again.
Some lady backed into it after we slapped huge snow tires on it and went up the mountains. Got written off for like $6k. Saw it on a pick-a-part site a few months later. Only part not for sale? The hood we polished with an orbial sander.

If you know where to look, BMW parts can be found for cheaper than Honda parts. One of the things I hate about Hondas (new to this experience) is that every part is Genuine Honda only. It's nearly impossible to find an OE alternative, whereas for BMW it is very easy to find - punch in the PN in google.

2 very similar cars
2008 evox 5 speed and 2016 sti 6 speed
sti:
had much nicer material for the interior. it was well laid out and a overall better daily
6 speed on the sti was nice and smooth and sitting at a lower rpm on long trips is a bonus
driving position is a lot better i guess i just prefer a telescoping steering wheel
gotta give handling to the sti too. lighter car, rwd bias, lower center of gravity. quicker steering response
evo:
it does everything the sti can, but less refined... but it is a older car.
i did find the shifting in the evo is less precise and it grinds easily. very common on the the gsr.

Liked:
Suspension was very good stock. Probably not good enough out of the box to be a track only car, but it was perfect for the road. Firm, but took the hits very well.
Grip was great, especially in the snow. The whole active yaw system worked very well and you could feel it pinching the brakes to pull the car around on slippery surfaces. It would be a great first high powered car.
Recaro seats in the front are still my favorite ever seats.
Sound system was great.
Didn't use much gas really
A big 4wd drift -:fullofwin:
With a T1R exhaust it sounded bad ass, and a cone filter also made the re-circ valve loud. It was hard not to love that.
edit: Almost forgot, the initial turn in is very sharp. It really feels like you can dive into the corners.
Didn't like:
Starting from stop always felt FeelsBadMan You either dump the clutch, or you chug until you get a little bit of boost.
Couldn't fold down rear seats. So I had to put my skis/showboard in the back seat or get a rack. I hated that.
When I was really pushing it on corners I kept feeling like this thing was going to suddenly snap under-steer.
Paint was cheap
It always felt like some cheap part was going to snap or blow up.
Every passenger stepped on the side skirts getting out and I was worried they would break off.
Really needed a 6th gear.
This was my first newish car ever (in 2010) and I sold my MKIV Supra TT to buy it. That was dumb, and I never felt the same about my Evo as I did my Supra so after 4 years it had to go.

Mine was on some Tein coilovers. You basically paid 40k for the engine, AWD magic drivetrain, and recaro seats and everything else was free.
Mine had some sort of boost issue so it didn't run as well near red line. The other magazine reviewers were right a out the car. It's really a mini GTR. The way the SAWC system pulls you out of corners is amazing. Last corner in Mission, after the chicane, can be done full throttle.
No understeer for me but mine was modified.
I really want to try the GR Corolla and see if it comes close to the Evo X.

I don't think it is the wrong term.. I was once in a Porsche as a passenger and we were turning left with a slight slide and suddenly it snapped right and spun out. It wasn't the typical over correction of lock.
So with the Evo, as you were balancing it around the corner with the throttle it felt like the car was just loading up to snap into the turn. Probably just something you can fix by a geometry tweak of some sort.

With a T1R exhaust it sounded bad ass, and a cone filter also made the re-circ valve loud. It was hard not to love that.
cant argue with that!
greddy exhaust, hks bov, arc intake... made all the right ricey noises

2004 Honda Civic SE (ES1)
(Somehow this turned out to be much longer than I had anticipated... )
Back in 2010, somehow I came to the conclusion that I needed a more practical vehicle than my Miata, but I didn't really want to spend a lot of money. So I went out to look for a beater, mostly focusing on different variants and generations of Civic / Integra. Originally, I really wanted to pick up an EG or EK Civic. But nearly all EG / EK within my budget was either pretty beat up, or suffering from varying degrees of rust cancer, so I began looking into the slightly newer ES Civics as well.
As I started researching into the car, it turned out that the early model years (01 - 03) were giant pieces of turd, with Honda seriously dropping the ball on a large number of normal everyday reliability aspects. But then with the 04 - 05 facelift, they actually fixed up all the reliability issues, and that is the car I ended up with -- a 04 facelifted 4-door ES1 car. It was the SE model, which basically meant it was the base stripper DX model (complete with manual crank windows!), but with A/C and a factory CD player already installed when they are optional equipment in the DX, plus a faux ground effects / body kit that made it looks more "sporty". I actually liked the car being a stripper model because it meant it was lighter than the higher trim models -- I think it was only in the high 2300 to low 2400 lbs range. The only thing I wished it had was ABS.

Drivetrain
After taking ownership of the car, I went through a cycle of refreshing it, catching up on all the deferred maintenance. With an (engine) valve adjustment and a switch to synthetic (engine) oil, the 170k+ km engine was butter smooth and purring like it was brand new all over again. I was honestly super surprised at how smooth and strong the engine was despite all that mileage. Power delivery was responsive, and the engine was willing to rev, but naturally, there wasn't a lot of oomph in the top end, even though the engine was certainly willing to go there. Wikipedia says it has 122hp / 110 lb-ft; I swear to God that it does NOT have 120hp.
Since the car was basically a DX model, it only had the non-VTEC D17A1 engine. At the time, all my car friends were warning me against picking up a 7th gen Civic, and the engine was one of their reasons. According to my friends, the D16Y engine was more receptive to modding, as was the EK platform. The D17 engine, however, practically had no aftermarket support. More over, the engine was pretty much maxed out in stock form already. But from my perspective, stock-for-stock, I found the D16 engine to be much weaker (have less low end to mid range torque) than the D17 engine was. For basic rolling around town, I thought the added torque from the D17 engine was more useful.
The engine was NOT picky about the gas it was fed -- it ran well and behaved about the same regardless of the brand or octane level of the gas that was used. (So naturally, I only fed it regular gas after a few trials.) The engine was generally not picky about the oil that was put into it either as long as it was the right grade (viscosity), although I would still say the switch to synthetic made the engine run noticeably smoother.
At 170k+ km, the engine consumed a tiny amount of oil, although I have forgotten the exact amount it needed over the course of an oil change. A little top up every now and then was all it needed -- it'd consume a little more oil if I were running the engine under high rpms (such as when I take the car to the track). The shifter felt a bit flimsy / cheap, but engagement always had a crisp and positive feel. It was certainly a shifter (and gearbox) that I enjoyed rowing.
The engine had a stupid factory air intake location where it was basically drawing hot air in from the engine bay. FailFish I rigged up a ghetto cold fresh air intake that would funnel some cold fresh air from the front grill, and it made a noticeable (and measurable) difference to the IAT, as well as a small difference to power.
Handling
The car had 170k+ when I took ownership of it, and it was still running on original shocks and everything. So naturally, the shocks were all worn out and way past overdue for replacing. But since none of them were leaking yet, I was being cheap and didn't bother to replace anything. The steering was light and generally provided good feedback, but there was a small amount of vagueness, likely due to the tie rods / control arms / bushings being as well-used as they were. And this vagueness deterioated over the course of my ownership almost certainly because of the motorsports activities that I have put the car through LOL~
The car had a decent chassis that was light and surprisingly responsive. Weight balance was what you'd expect from a typical FWD, but I'd actually say it was more "tail-light" instead of "front heavy" because the whole car was pretty light. Coupled together with the worn out shocks that basically offered zero body motion control in any sort of semi-aggressive driving, it made for some *really* interesting handling characteristics. Minute amounts of trail braking would cause the rear end to step out, and it was super easy to induce and sustain a FWD drift when a sweeper turn is taken aggressively. But this is also one of the reasons that I liked the chassis -- the handling behaviour of the car was always linear, progressive, and easily predictable. At any point during my shenanigans, I'd say I generally have a very good idea of how much control I still have over the car, and can adjust accordingly. IMO, the wheelbase of the car also played a key role in this. In my current M2, the wheelbase is much shorter, and that doesn't give the driver very much warning or time to correct once the rear end starts walking sideways. But with the Civic, it was long enough to be stable and predictable, yet still short enough to be agile.
The 7th gen Civic takes a lot of flak from the (online?) car community for ditching the double wishbone suspension from the 6th gen car to the Mac strut configuration, as well as having a poor IRS design. Inherently, of course there is a degree of truth to the accusations, and the initial 01 - 03 model run was using undersized front struts that lead to premature failure. But at least in stock form of the facelifted cars, I'd say the suspension design works well enough for 95% of the usage the car will see, and that includes light motorsports use as well as everyday mundane driving.
The handling behaviour of the beater Civic actually made me a much better driver than I was before owning the car, because it forced me to practice the textbook skills in high performance driving -- brake in a straight line, coordinate your steering and throttle inputs, control the car through the throttle, and of course, "staying on gas" as with any FWD high performance driving situation lol~ It was a *LOT* of fun.
Practicality
https://scontent.fyvr3-1.fna.fbcdn.net/v/t31.18172-8/338095_10151175802530228_64366328_o.jpg?_nc_cat=11 0&ccb=1-7&_nc_sid=4dc865&_nc_ohc=OXEkvTWNj1sAX8bLNB2&_nc_ht=scontent.fyvr3-1.fna&oh=00_AfD4LNJef9pIQXgWn0KhTAQgbtQK4tEWXykkmWB2DLIo 6A&oe=65557D0D
Visibility from the driver seat was superb -- the car had a low cowl and a short hood that sloped down; the A-pillars were thin, and the greenhouse had large windows. The trunk was a bit tall, so rearward visibility was not as good as the forward one, but it still wasn't poor by any means. The visibility from the driver's seat was something I miss dearly because most (all?) modern cars have stupid high cowls and shoulder lines as a result of the higher crash standards now.
The car was hands-down amazing when it comes to utility and practicality. It really wasn't a large car by any stretch of imagination, but every bit of the car was designed with utility and usability in mind. All the controls were within easy and intuitive reach of the driver. Interior appointments were spartan but comfortable and sensible. The rear flat floor made putting stuff into the back of the car a breeze. The trunk was simply ginormous. Even without folding down the seats, it could swallow 1 giant suitcase + 1 carry-on suitcase with room to spare. And with the rear seats folded down, it could swallow even more.
The spare wheel well cover / trunk liner board was a cheap and flimsy piece of particle board. It was rather surprising to see Honda cheaping out on something like that.
Access to basic maintenance items for the average non-car enthusiast owner was fantastic. All the fluids openings were easily accessible, and all the light bulb locations were super easy to get to. I don't think I have ever changed the bulbs in the head and brake lights in any of my cars as fast as I did with the beater Civic -- they were readily accessible. By contrast, the service maintenance fire hoops that VW engineers make you jump through made me want to strangle those very same VW engineers...
Reliability
The original owner of the car basically did nothing more than basic oil changes, maybe one brake fluid change, and some basic replacement of consumables, and nothing broke on the car over the course of its initial 170k km run. With a good amount of refreshening, the car went on to run like a champ for me despite the abuse that I have put it through. I obviously drove it all over the place and on road trips -- including on access roads to get to hiking trail heads; took it to autox and track days; used it to haul all kinds of stuff; made good use of the backseats just for the heck of it LOL~
Honda had dropped the ball with the initial release of the car, even though there were a lot of good and thoughtful designs built into it. Fortunately, they were able to clean up their act, and the facelifted version of the 7th gen car was exemplary, showcasing Honda's well-deserved reputation as an auto manufacturer.
Final Words
The 7th gen Civic gets a bad name from the casual car enthusiast community. Part of it came from the failures of the early model year cars, but I'd say a good chuck of it also came from people just being armchair experts as opposed to having actual real life experience with the car. Speaking from first hand experience, I'd say the facelifted cars were fantastic in a very utilitarian way -- it wasn't a thoroughbred, and shouldn't be expected to perform like one just because its prececessor had elements of it. Instead, the car was an ultra reliable and willing workhorse. It was always there; it was not picky, and things always just worked. It was already punching way above its weight class, and shouldn't be criticized for being something it wasn't. I wish I had bought one since new (but not the 01-03 model).

I don’t know where to start.
1) great and comprehensive review
2) extra points for reviewing a base model civic. Extra extra points for tracking said civic.
3) you probably got more fun out of that thing then anyone else who’s ever owned a civic se
This is the epitome of a good beater car.
P.s did you guys ever have any problems with dating and your cars ?
When I drove my dads Sentra xe (same as basically a civic dx) this girl I was dating in langara commented it was the ugliest thing she’s ever seen (gold with a tan cloth interior). This honger bitch drive a base model CRV in that British racing green so im not sure if she had any rights to comment on my car.
But anyways I did end up with this insecurity that to get hot chicks you need hot cars. Of course then I got spy balloon and ended up buying a shit ton of corollas….. so I guess it only mattered for a few years in my early 20s

Have I mentioned on RS before about the time when I took a girl out on a first date in my Miata? I have just installed some super stiff metal-polyurethane engine mounts into the Miata, so she was buzzing and vibrating like a mofo whenever the car idled, and it was still really loud (and buzzing & vibrating) when the car was moving LOL~
I dunno WTF I was thinking at the time... FailFish but I still ended up dating the girl for a good 1/2 year or so. But after that first date, I always drove the girl in the beater Civic I wrote above lol~
I also went on lots of dates and trips with le wifey, both before and after she became le wifey, and she never had a problem with the Civic being a beater. But that's why she is a keeper.

You people are crazy, you dont understand just how epic my B15 sentra is/was
First of all. DID YOU KNOW THAT THE SE model of the b15 sentra had a SR20!?!?! yeah bitches, now what huh!? *^
*note i did not have an SE, i only had the XE... the most basic bitch car in the entire lineup
^the Sr20 wasnt the famous Sr20DET, it was the sr20DE... aka its neutered NA brother. But i mean you COULD have dropped in the T yourself and added boost, but who would do that to a FWD piece of shit like this?
So this was my car when I was 16. My folks being the super poor mofo's they are, couldn't afford a Corolla (this is what cemented my love affair with Corollas too) and thus they leased this awesome, BUILT IN MEXICO, Nissan Sentra XE with manual locks and manual windows. Which color Dad!? OH HOW ABOUT JEWISH RACING GOLD!?!?!?
yeah cuz you don't have any real gold, but you wanted to look like you had some.... just look at these plastic wheel covers. God, no wonder everyone laughed at me at.

Performance: Fuck you
Interior: Plasticky Trash
Exterior: this is why i wear glasses, im blinded to this day
Price: not cheap, considering this pile of garbage was 22k back in 2001 The corollas were around there, i think 24k but the lease rates in 2001 was too high. My family couldnt afford it, so they went with the VALUE option. To my great protest.
To this day, it was the fastest car ive ever driven because 1) i was 16 and 2) i wanted to die so i drove it around everywhere at 100km/h. School zones, nunneries, whatever. i was pedal to the..... plastic all the time
It finally blew up at 200k on the clock. During that time it went through 4 catalytic converters, 2 valve covers, an ECU (rotted out?!), and numerous rotors and brakes. That nissan dealership was making a fortune off my already destitute parents.
They traded that POS in for 1000 bucks and promptly leased another sentra. i was away in the states for school at the time so i couldnt stop their maddness, but my god are they ever retarded. Luckily after that other sentra was done, i bought them a Lexus RX400h which they still drive to this day.

Initial D was already a hit in Asia. In N.America at least, anime was really rather quite niche even around (year) 2000, and I feel like mainstream society still viewed anime with a tiny bit of the geekiness / otaku type of stigma, although it was already much better than the early and mid 90's.

I remember wanting to buy a used Prelude instead but Asian families didn't believe in buying second hand cars. I had an opportunity to buy a Spec-V around the time lock down started for nostalgia but ultimately went a different route. It's probably better to leave the Sentra as a distant memory.

imagine a car owned by a chinese chef who smokes and takes his smoke breaks in his car. most of you may or may not know this but most chinese restaurants closes from 3-5. instead of driving back and forth he'll take naps in the car. now add the scent of chinese food, grease, oil, and cigarettes permanently infused into the headliner and cloth seats. this was my ride for a year. after 6 months of not having a daily my dad decided to help me out getting my own car. they paid for 3/4 of the celica under the condition i continue driving my mom.
power: 100hp, slow, struggles with more than 1 passenger.
handling: ??? no racing or spirited drives. i was super respectful as it wasnt my car and insurance was still under my dads name.
interior: pretty loaded, power windows, keyless entry, ac.
comfort: really comfy, i lowkey like cloth seats. ate up speedbumps.
reliability: old school legendary toyota, unlike modern toyotas... needed nothing other than oil change since day one of 15 year ownership. to be honest, im sure we missed alot of oil changes too. stock brakes and tires etc.
my only pic of this.... can u blame me? its a corolla... and not the cool kind lol

That’s epic. That’s the ratrolla we couldn’t afford. Old man wanted his ratrolla in beige with gold emblems but the lease was too much.
I’m still sad they couldn’t swing for that one as I’m sure it would have saved them money in the long run. I also would have probably gotten laid earlier FeelsBadMan
That’s quite a collection of interesting cars you got there bro. First gen cayenne. Your family must be loaded. Plus I’m sure you eat well since your dad’s a chef. Nice ! (Can I come over?)

Yeah dude, the Celica GTS was my dream car in high school. I spent a lot of time on the Toyota configurator; sat in them at the dealership a couple times. I remember the interior looked and felt to me like it was out of a fighter jet cockpit.
Maybe one day. I guess this is why Bring A Trailer is such a big thing.

1998 integra gsr turbo (fake race car, wannabe show car)
this got to be in the top 5 of my favorite cars ive owned. picked this up as a project car as i didnt want to throw money into a automatic celica. learnt how to comfortably drive stick in this car, and to this day i swear its my favorite driving manual. i dont know if i miss the car itself or the memories being in my early 20s with no financial responsibilities. a lot of good times with this thing. eventually a lot of electrical and tuned related gremlins surfaced and i was getting bored of the gsr. swapped the interior and wheels/suspension over to a ITR and straight traded a non running turbo gsr for a running ITR.
power: plenty, dont remember the exact number but it was in the high 2xx whp.
handling: torque steered like crazy. with a lot of "fake race car" mods it drove just like a stock ITR.
interior/NVH: very uncomfortable, super harsh ride and everything rattled. couldnt tell what was "normal" and what was broken. it was awesome, very race car like!!
exterior: to each their own i guess... no its not authentic mugen/jdm front end.
emotion: financial mistake, yes... regret? no way! theres something special about driving a highly modded car. i cant see myself ever doing this again but glad i did when i was younger.

RENTAL REVIEW! RENTAL REVIEW! RENTAL REVIEW!!!!!
Genssisisisisisi g80 2.5T AWD
When the dude at the avis coutner told me BRO, ILL GIVE YOU A GENSISSSISISISIS. i had this look of disappointment on my face. Im like uhhh you got that 530i from last time? hes like nope, its in the shop for warranty repairs (typical). How about an nice Audi then? hes like nah, all taken. The only luxuobarge we have is the gensis or i can get you an SUV like an durango SRT (tempting!)
Anyways i decided to give kimchi luxury a try. I heard good things about it, it just didnt really like the styling. Although in this color w/ those wheels, its pretty decent looking. THat grille is friggin ridiculous though.

Driving around montreal this super long beast turns quite a few frenchie heads. I showed up to the port and the first thing those guys said to me was that im overpaid for what i do (no arguments there). We went out for dinner and the valet parked it out front. Pretty interesting considering last time i took in the 5 series and they moved it out of the way (peasant). I had a rando french hip hop looking dude stop at the intersection and take a picture of the car so i guess it passes the "cool" factor
The g80 drives smaller and more agile than its physical dimensions. The koreans did a good job with the suspension tuning and NVH. The downside is that 2.5T engine. Its pretty gutless and doesnt have adequate pull for something that large and heavy. Its also kinda laggy, so waiting for turbos to spool takes a while. When they do finally kick in, you get a amount of thrust, but then it dies off quite quickly and it never feels fast enough. 4 cylinder also sounds like garbage.
https://i.postimg.cc/tRwYj6vs/IMG-2410.jpg
Interior is pretty good... the seats are supportive but i dislike the fact they dont have thigh extensions (on this lower trim). The heated seats are strong and likewise the cooled seats. The steering wheel heats up so damn hot you need gloves to operate it.
The 2 things i didnt like was this cheap plastic silver trim that goes across the dash and the unhappy emojie steering wheel ala S class mercedes.
The silver trim looks okay, just dont touch it. it feels like cheap 5 cent plastic instead of a metal alloy that its pretending to be.
https://i.postimg.cc/ZnGRxkv8/IMG-2321.jpg
Another annoying thing is spinny knobs that control the UI being the same size and shape as the gear selector spinny knob (also right next to each other). I dont know how many times i reached down instinctively and grabbed the wrong knob while trying to reverse. Seems idiotic design there.
https://i.postimg.cc/8zkzLcMT/IMG-2206.jpg
The most impressive thing about this car is the tech involved. The user interface is takes a bit getting used to, but once you are familiar its good. Special praise goes to its lane keeping / lane tracing along with radar adaptive cruise. It can basically drive itself with this system on.

981 Cayman GTS on PZero.
⭐⭐⭐
TL;DR Cancelled my Cayman plans after driving one of these.
- Handling: a lot softer than I expected but very easy to drive.
- Driving Feeling: pretty neutral, very little steering feel
- Powertrain: After driving a lot of ZF8 cars, a DCT still hits different.
Magazines hyped these to the moon and back but I came away feeling "cold" about this car.
It's great but I don't think of it or really feel anything about it.
If I bought one, it'd be for the Porsche group chat, badge and the cargo space.

W205 C63: Reality very different than internet fanbois
⭐⭐
TL;DR There are cars that punch above their weight and feel like they're way more than the sum of their parts, this is not one of them.
Another day, another Hertz Presidents Choice aisle full of Ford Edges.
This was supposed to be a saving grace for my trip, but when Mercedes delayed the W205 because the Mk7 Golf was just THAT good, maybe I should've delayed picking this.
0) This car was excellent for pulling up to boutiques that looked more like art galleries than clothing stores. Had a LOT of personal assistance with shopping that weekend despite wearing Jordans; perhaps this fit the WeHo nepo baby look.
Onto the car...
1) The power delivery is very inconsistent
2) Without an LSD, you really can't use a lot of its power even on the highway due to the bad LA roads
3) Feels like there's more than a layer or two of separation between the steering wheel and what the front end is doing
4) Exhaust really isn't that loud or great sounding, with flaps open it's quieter than a stock 5.0 Mustang or Scat Pack Challenger
5) Speaking of the Challenger, this somehow feels just as heavy to drive.
At least the W211 E63 in my bio was a great cruiser with an interesting engine.
This one's neither a good sports car nor cruiser... but "I'm in a C63 this weekend" piques enough peoples' interest that it's almost worth it.

A shining star in Toyota's lineup ... the light ... it arrives once you get off the 2 year waitlist
TL;DR How is the Prius this good?
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
First they release the new Camry ... which steered so well that I felt confident sending it into the 91 > Knight onramp at 145 on ecotires...
.. but this is better.
1) On my Seattle <> Vancouver runs that I like to do at 85MPH, this is really quiet, doesn't suffer from any side mirror shake (that the RAV & Camry did). Steering and brake weighting is excellent.
2) They didn't just give the styling rizz, this might be the first Toyota product with sound system rizz; this has FCA/Stellantis levels of bass stock.
3) The interior UX finally makes sense - unlike the old Prius, this is something I could give to my parents and not expect any phone calls about how to drive the thing
4) You can finally feel confident passing on highways and ripping Granville street right lanes ... it's faster than the Integra A-Spec and Civic 1.5T to 60.
5) Lane keep assist and adaptive cruise on highways is very stable now (unlike the current gen Corolla when it first landed).
6) Steering ratio feels fast, turn is more aggressive than the Civic/Integra with more lift off oversteer to help with turn in I've experienced in a long time..
7) Regen braking got a lot stronger.
The new Prius is incredibly well rounded inside and out, finally drives very well, with styling that gives my coworkers "Tesla Vibes".
Fucking A.

Coming from a Porsche fanboi (that's me, haha~) I'd say that based on your video, you are maybe tabbing into 30% of what the car is capable of doing, so I am not surprised to find that you didn't come away too impressed by the car.
Power is not the 981's strong suit -- the NA flat 6 doesn't have a lot of torque, so the power doesn't really impress.
PZero is a horrible tire -- grip is low for what is supposed to be a sporty tire, and I found them to be inconsistent when driven aggressively. Recovery from the moment after losing traction is also poor. The only thing they seem to be good at is their durability. But because the tire performs so poorly, their durability only extends the agony to drive them for a longer time.
IMO, the greatest strength with the Cayman is the way is can change directions. This is directly attributed to the MR layout, and is something non-MR cars just can't achieve. If you enjoy that sort of finesse, you'll really like the car. If that isn't your sort of thing, you'll enjoy it less.

+1 on the PZero being awful - they were incredibly inconsistent on the 5.0 Mustang I had.
It's possible we have different taste in MR cars. I was a lot more impressed by Elise and Emira (except for the really bad manual gearbox).
GT3 Cup, 458 Challenge and Performante are something I think about a lot but they're in such a different price point that I don't think it's fair to compare.

Being limited to the AWD only model doesn't do the pricing in Canada any favors. Prius Prime, however, comes out to 7k ish less than an SR+ in Canada if you can get your hands on one.
US pricing at 28k for the LE is still high when a Model 3 SR+ is like 25k USD in a lot of states. Prime doesn't qualify for any incentives in the states so it's dead in the water.
IMO I fully expect Toyota to allocate more Primes to Canada and more standard Hybrids to the US.

1990 Miata
the base version with negative horsepower
The good
I bought this car for 1200$ i think, about 9 years ago. Had 250,000kms.
Pop up headlights are "rare" and when i hit that headlight button, i was rock hard. Always wanted a car with em.
Proceeded to install a 12vdc relay to the left headlight with a remote. Then whenever i was near the car, and people would walk by, i would wink at them, followed by confusion. 10/10 execution. :fullofwin:
Overall reliable, i tried to increase the power by retarding the timing, car still ran after. (Surprizingly)
Bitches love it, gets more compliments than a corvette and Z4
Lots of mod options "back in the day" in regards to wheels, lips, etc
Looked alot better after i plasti dipped it (probably part of the reason it qualified for FAG status by a random)
The bad
Roof is stiff and fuck to put on at times
Negative horsepower
Small AF, but i still fit inside
Bland AF interior
Qualifies for the most boring car i have owned as a roadster
Someone yelled FAG at a red light at me LOL :okay:
Would i buy another one?
Maybe to drive it into the ocean for youtube clicks

2015 C7 Z51
The price
You guys already know i paid more in tax on this monster than all of my cars combined
The good
Ranks top 3 cars i have owned (then again its also 8 years newer than any other car i have owned, and about 80,000-280,000kms less)
Absolute riot to drive
Milfs look at you in traffic while husbands grind their teeth :fuckyea:
Smiles per gallon is very high
If your having a bad day, shes always there for you
Massive trunk space for a convertible
I finally caught up to all my homies in nice cars after years of shitboxes
Everyone struggles to open the door their first time, always amusing
The bad
Negative wheel choices, unless your willing to fork out 3500$+, due to the rear offset being +78......
Creaks and ticks from certain areas of the car, took me weeks to find and sort them out. There is still one in the steering wheel that i cant fix
These cars are notorious for having 2nd gear issues, mine does as well. Every 10th shift into 2nd does not actually go in so your just revving the engine
Touchscreen display gets scratched easily, never understood why manufacturers put this shit into cars
The new / unexpected for me
Built in PDR - track data recorder, that also doubles as a dashcam
Car always suggests shifting from 1st to 4th for fuel economy / ease of driving
7 gears baby
Center console touchscreen actually drops down into the car, and reveals a hidden storage compartment
Revmatching paddle switch, had no clue what this even was until some dude told me on the track
"Cooling" seats are good when you dont have goldbond
Variable exhaust tone
4 variable driving modes, and track has 5 submodes. I have had cars with sport mode before, but this car takes it to a whole new level. The difference in feel is not small, its massive.

2006? Ruckus
Price
Dont remember, maybe 1700$ pre-ricing 7 years ago?
The good
Ran without an issue
Lots of fun on FLAT roads
Already had a stretch kit, fartcan, etc on it when i got it, just needed repainting mainly
The bad
Fartcan gets annoying very quickly, especially going up hills full bore at 40kmh
No power
Kinda skech since it was so low, and the pegs would bite into the concrete on sharp turns kinda kicking the bike up. I was also a noob bike rider at this point so probably driver issue
The awesome
I bought this bad boy when i lived in a condo, the strata bylaws clearly state NO BICYCLES in the hallways / lobby etc. So i drove this thing through my halls, elevator, and into my unit, rules dont say no motorbikes.
Then i proceeded to strip it down, repaint the body, trim, plastic, buy a new rear rim, tire stretch it, rice it some more with velvet wrapping the seat, 20$ knock off ebay rear lights and put it back together in my living room.
Next up i did burnouts in my parkade, i about a month later everyone got a letter through strata, that someone is causing noise and tire marks in the parkade. I proceeded to frame this for life. (I lost the letter during one of my moves :( maybe i can find it through the strata archives) the way the letter was written me and my buddies were howling knowing it was us messing around and probably pissing off 85% of the residence the 3-4 times we did it. For the Corvette, have you looked into Apex Wheels?
https://apexwheels.com/fitment-guides/chevrolet/corvette
I dunno my Corvettes all that well beyond the basic generational and rudimentary trim level differences, but it seems like there could potentially be a few good wheel choices for certain models. And Apex is a very reputable brand among the enthusiast and track circles, with flow formed models that will not break the bank.

I have, dont like their style, and they only come on 18/19 from my last conversation. Their nice wheels dont come in correct specs, and then they enter 3.5k+ range anyways
Cue first world problems, appreciate the suggestion regardless

BMW X6: Premium Economy - who is this for?
⭐⭐
1700KM of driving in 2 days later... ladies and gentlemen, we're in Premium Economy where the best compliment are we can give is that there's nothing wrong, the B58 is reliable and the features/specs look good on a spec sheet.
I really would've rather done the drive in my Mk7 TSI that I drove in college.
https://i.imgur.com/62yz7Qs.png
https://i.imgur.com/0lUqu5f.jpeg
Gone are the days where BMW built business/first class experiences that were special and you'd think about weeks after the fact.
As a road trip car:
- Fairly powerful with the B58, don't really need to think about passing
- 10.5L/100km cruising between 135 and 150kmh
As a BMW:
- steers fairly well at highway speeds with decent weight but 0 feel
- very harsh over large bumps even in comfort mode
- ZF8 transmission tuning is kinda slow vs. Dodge/Alfa/Audi
- unlike the American V8s I'm used to (5.0/392), B58 doesn't feel special, sounds like a 2GR off idle & still falls off at high RPM
As a daily driver:
- heated armrests are nice
- autopark feature generally works very well in lower NYC & Toronto
- both phone compartments roast the phone with heat
- cost cutting from no proximity entry for non drivers' doors
- cost cutting from no electrochromic mirrors on the passenger side, hella glare
- harmon kardon distorts at medium volume
As a status icon:
- it's giving older uncle from the suburbs who exited to in-house counsel at Dunder Mifflin OR became lead construction project manager
- friends got into the car and said it looked "fun"
At 85k as driven with medium equipment, you could get
1) Well equipped Porsche Macan S that would drive a lot better & better badge. 2.9T tunes well but kinda laggy.
2) Well equipped base Porsche Cayenne that would drive a lot better if you spec it with active roll bars and rear wheel steering; 2.9T.
3) Escalade with much more comfortable magnetic ride and the 47inch OLED infotainment... but you might look like a chauffer; 6.2L
4) Used Aston DBX are in the 110k range; AMG 4.0 V8
5) Used G63 from the mid 2010s; AMG 6.2/5.5/4.0 V8s available
6) Used Bentley Bentayga with the ugly taillights (pre 2021); W12 or 4.0TT V8 available.
7) Grand Cherokee/Durango Hellcat based on ML chassis
8) X5 50e with an awesome plug in powertrain - 483 hp, 516 lb-ft, 70km range same as RAV4 Prime
Whether you're a c-lai, corporate uncle, or a young FOB... buying any of these puts you in business class - an experience that's more special, more comfortable, and better put together.
BMW's best products are the Supra, X3 M/M40i, M3..... or their leases after Loaner/BMWCCA/Loyalty/MSD/OL discounts.

Augmented reality navigation kinda works, but it's off most of the time since we're using Carplay/Android Auto. The voice recognition reads the voice well but most of the time doesn't offer any help.
Porsche/Cadillac/MB offer night vision which is really helpful for rural road trips.

These seem like a decent deal for what it offers, especially when lightly optioned for <$100k before taxes. Would rather take a lightly-optioned one of these than a XC90 Recharge or RX450h+ Prime (or whatever Lexus call them).

X5 50e now qualifies for the US** PHEV rebate (3.5k for US sourced batteries, 3.5k for US assembly) but doesn't qualify for the Canadian rebate.

https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53194654415_7d422a5987_b.jpg
Price 15k 3 years ago
kms 90kms
the good
-Turbo is a riot to drive
-Once you tune it, the turbo is even more fun to drive. The psi went from 17-19 to 21-23
-Reliable for the 2 years that i had it
-Price to fun ratio is very high, would highly recommend it
-RWD Keepo
the bad
-negative trunk space
-do NOT do burnouts in this car
-manual soft top
-too much chrome
-qualifies as a "chicks" car along with its twin the pontiac solstice
-way too many god dam creaks, cracks, and ticks, took me years to find them all
-fobs are notorious for having the solder joints crack, this lead to the car not started due to the immobilizer not being picked up. Funny enough it also happened on the ferry terminal RIGHT AFTER i bought the thing (seller was a dishonest POS about multiple things). Ended up fixing a week later.
Not many side stories with this thing unfortunately.......

Price i think i paid 17 or 19k for it 8 years ago (rebuilt)
kms 80k
the good
-Owning this car when i was in my early 20s felt like i won at life
-Im still alive
-Reliable (i did not own it for long)
-Port moody had many donut marks all summer long
-Bank account stayed empty from all the whistler drives me and my buddy went on, july/aug my gas bill was 700$ each (and this is my "weekend" car)
The bad
-cop magnet, was pulled over 4 times in the span of 3 months....
-milf magnet
-dilf magnet
-bland AF interior
-expensive oil changes
-transmission would always start to cook the center console area / shifter after long drives, was apparently normal
-did not come with an aux cable / bluetooth, good thing they sold an adapter for the siriusXM or some shit that i installed
-had a bad wheel bearing from the rebuilt title, WHOMP.WHOMP.WHOMP when above 90kmh, never fixed it....
Entertainment
Oh boy where do i begin
1. I swapped insurance from my prelude to the C6 over a long weekend or something, so i had one of those "paper" insurance forms.
-female cop pulls me over (kid driving a c6 - obviously stolen), tells me its uninsured and asks me if its "my car"......
-i tell her its insured, show her paperwork
-15 minutes later she comes back and tells me theres no insurance, and that i cant drive it home
-end up getting the car towed home, cant drive it all weekend (fuming as i just bought it)
-call insurance place on monday, yup, its insured, call the cop and give it to her over the phone, that she or her department needs to pay me the towing fees. She proceeds to get offended and say i cant talk to her like that / they will not pay the towing bill
-call her office and send them to tow bill instead
-they pay (oh waaaaw she was wrong)
-i feel good about myself (i like cops, but this chick was a dipshit)
-fast forward 2 weeks, the officer calls me again, asking why i was driving my prelude uninsured, i ask her on what date, she gives me some date, i look at my papers, tell her it was insured. Then i proceed to ask her what year, and sure enough, she was looking at the wrong year..... I proceed to ask her if she has any more stupid questions, she never calls me again. Dummy probably got in shit about the tow bill and took it on herself to dig into my file about any dirt she could find?
2. I picked my dad up in the car after i bought it, as i usually do with every car, so he can give me shit for spending money on bad life purchases lol
-we go for a drive, about half way thru, we are coasting in light traffic, and this dude in a lifted truck yells HAHA I WISH I LEARNED TO DRIVE IN THAT HAHAHAH
-i laugh and keep driving, its a very weird and rewarding feeling being insulted when in reality your overtime shifts paid off
3. I think i posted this story twice now on these forums but here it goes again
-i roll up to a 711, go inside, grab some garbage or drank, im waiting in line
-some chick behind me in her 30s, solid 4/10 is like "ooohh is that your corvette??? My kind of maaannnn"
-i laugh say yes, pay for my shit and leave
-as im walking up to my car, some kid across the parking lot yells "woah sick car dude!" or such, i say thank you and get in the car
-as im on my phone, the woman comes out, kid says to the woman "mom mom, did you see the sick car?!??"
Could have been porking that kids mom that night.....
4. My buddies face when i bought it
-i always mess around with my close friends when i buy cars, i never tell them, just end up meeting them, or saying "i wish i had that car" etc
-anyways, i tell my buddy lets go for a drive, we meet at a parking lot, he is expecting me to roll up in a prelude, i roll up infront of him, stop, and look at him in his car, the dude did not even register it for a good 10 seconds, his facial reaction was priceless
-he also recorded a video of him walking up to my car with me having a shit eating grin on my face
Point being, the C6 had way too many good stories / moments for the little time that ive owned it
-On the topic of point #4 above, my C7, i did the same thing.
-I went to my buddies place, met him outside, then we were walking back up the hill to go for a drive (he thought i still had my Sky)
-There was a 05 boxster parked infront of my car, i look at my buddy "you wanna go for a spin in my new sweet porschE?" as i start to walk over to the drivers side
-He responds "i dont think you would buy something like that...."
-I reply "Your right, i blew my entire bank account on this instead" click my c7 lights flash
-my buddies jaw hits the floor with the greatest scoff i have heard from him in a decade

Two months ago I decided to do an extra long 1st gear peeeeeeel, the car had a whine on light acceleration right after in all gears.

BMW X6: Premium Economy - who is this for?
⭐⭐
Jeep Grand Cherokee 4XE: this is gonna sound crazy ... a commentary on BMW ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
https://i.imgur.com/C99x3pL.jpeg
https://i.imgur.com/LIwkuwi.jpeg
The BMW beat me up after 700km .... I did 1000km in this and pulled up to the club at 2AM.
1) While the X6 is still settling into a bend on the highway, I'm on the throttle. The steering and chassis? Chef's kiss.
2) Smooth operator, smoooooooth operator: no more upset stomach that I got from the X6; no need for noise cancelling headphones at 145kmh unlike the X6.
3) It's play time - lift off oversteer? a little. confidence in the brakes? pedals' very stiff. Numbers say the X6 has more skidpad lateral grip but I know which I'd rather drive.
4) B58 this, B58 that.. meh - this is just as fast to the quarter mile with less lag thanks to electric assist. Even holds gears at redline.
5) AM (BMW Harmon Kardon distorting at mid volume) -----> FM (Base Alpine sound system)
6) Fancy enough for old money horse race people to compliment when I pulled up.
7) Dont' need a YouTube video to figure out iDrive 8. This makes sense to me.. and probably my parents too.
Cons? Some of the plastics below the beltline are still a lil cheap and I didn't get to try the night vision. Highway fuel economy isn't any better than the X6.
One has to wonder what the 500hp+ Hurricane inline 6 and brakes/tires the size of a Bavarian Beer Hall to match the X6M will do here.
Spec: Base model 4XE on Michelin Latitude LTX. 45 miles.
Leases: 400 a month w/ plug in hybrid credit.

Roll em up, my ears plead, the wind on a wild spree:
170 in the Jeep? Nah, we're just at 50.
7G Civic vibes, unseen potholes surprise.
The 8G too posh, slips from our routine.
The brake pedal? A sponge, no grace.
Worse than a Prius; no - that's not the right race.
Will this even stop or will it fold up in place?
Full throttle we go, stoplight to stoplight.
6.7 litres per hundred kilometers, I see.
Squinting out, I scream, "Jeep, set me free".

I got a Wagoneer in one LA trip and that thing drove like a dream on the highway. It wasn't a plug-in hybrid, but the Inline-6 had plenty of pep even with 5 people in the vehicle. Moving from a stop was a bit choppy but I think a hybrid or PHEV powertrain would've smoothed that out.
I'd still take a X7 over a Wagoneer or an X5 over the Grand Cherokee as my personal vehicle, but for a short rental experience the Jeep was quite nice.

The BMWs I see kinda as luxury Toyotas - they're mostly functional but not that great. A used X7 for 40k's really hard to beat when a Sienna is more.
I'd personally go a bit more upmarket (Bentayga for 5 seater, Escalade V for the 7) or for an older G wagon if I had to spend 40.

2011 Audi S4 B8 DSG
Price Paid: $26g (September 2017 @ 75k kms)
From always daily driving $5g, $8g "pos" cars, i was itching for something Euro and "nice" so went out and bought it.
The Good:
-It looked expensive for what it was at the time - Got alot of "business must be good" when i first bought the car. Bruh, it costs as much as a new Honda Accord
-Power delivery was excellent. Instant take off, torque from the supercharged V6. Quick DSG Shifts
-Quattro AWD in snow was cool
thats about it lol
The Bad:
-Dual clutch transmission was jerky AF, it was to the point i learned how to drive in a very specific way of feathering the pedal at certain lower speeds just to avoid the jerk. This significantly got worse as mileage increased.
-Transmission rattled in revserse one day.. and it went away and never came back
-Transmission felt like it was going to blow up any minute
-Thermostat failed at 100k, left me stranded
-Was eating through decent amount of oil between oil changes
-Coolant level never stayed sturdy. It would slowly decrease within a year. Mechanics couldnt figure out why
-Has bluetooth for phone calling but not for audio streaming. How stupid
-Some control arm bushings failed after 120k, but thats minor
-I had the Standard sound system and it was absolutely horrendous. My 2006 Acura TL had better sound. B&O option is not much better either. I sat down in one that had it and was still dissapointed.
-Would RANDOMLY throw "parking brake malfunction" on display and would never show up again. Full of electrical surprises
Keep in mind, i am meticulous when it comes to staying on top of maintenance. Overall, after 3 years, i was more than happy to get rid of this junk. Sorry fellow B8 S4 owners, never again

Acura is well known to have really high quality sound systems, their ELS is one of the best systems for the money. You'd have to get into the ridiculous 5k+ systems offered from the Germans to rival it.
All the other entry level HK or B&O or Bose or whatever, they are all terrible. The HK system in my M3 sounds bad.

135k! sold it in mid 2020 during the pandemic. Put 60k kms over the 3 years, Somewhat decent amount of driving considering I drive half of that now a days.
Supposedly the B9 generation has gotten alot better with the torque converter transmission and reliability. I'd buy another Audi, but only if it was a new lease with a warranty that i can ditch in a couple years. These are comfortable and fast disposable cars.

2024 Lexus RX350 F(fail) Sport
I took my in-laws sc430 in for service and I got this loaner. 33km on the dial and basically minty fresh from the dealer.
https://i.postimg.cc/fWp4Kqmh/IMG-6402-Copy.jpg
The goods:
- it’s still very quiet inside. Little to no wind noise, no tire noise, nothing intrusive other than if you step on it.. more on that later
- active safety features are numerous and works quite well. Lane keep, lane centring, assistive driving, blind spot monitoring, etc. good stuff for the c Lai’s who drive this
- there’s a lot of storage in the center console and the new arm rest with the double hinged box is nice.
- stupid whale head looks better in this dark color. Rims are nice.
The bad:
- transmission. Not sure why they use this 8 speed instead of the 10 speed from the LC. It seems to hunt gears a lot even in eco. It doesn’t shift quickly and it’s not as smooth as a CVT. Literally the worst of all worlds
- the 4 banged turbo is a disaster. When you step on it, it feels completely lethargic and non responsive. There’s quite a bit of lag if you were going at 50kph in a high gear and you decided to step on it. It also sounds like you put a nickel in a paint can and then took it to a paint can shaker. Utter garbage.
https://youtu.be/SixfRgFRhjY?feature=shared
- electronic doors are mind blowingly stupid. Not sure why the need for this added complication when traditional door handle / latch system works so well. Now there’s a slight delay and in the winter time they’ve had issues where the electronic actuator freezes.
- the interior looks and feels cheap. The visibility is worse and the material choices are garbage. lots of this piano black plastic and terrible looking suede. Even in this F sport guise with the red accents, it looks way worse than previous gen. But the wife said she likes the interior.
- rear seats no longer able to move forward or back. Leg room in the rear seems less than my 2018 RX.
- the new Lexus infotainment is ugly. Yes the old trackpad sucked but this new one seems half baked and you can no longer do split screen.
- the capacitive touch buttons on the steer wheel is also incredibly distracting. They are slow to respond and you only’kmow
What you’re pressing by the HUD display. Makes no sense.

I guess in order to keep the price down and not have it at the X5 level they had to cheap out on shit. Considering majority of the safety features are standard I guess they had to cut corners somewhere.

^ The 10sp is a RWD tranny, the RX is FWD, it won't fit.
Acura has a 10sp FWD tranny, but it's terrible as well. I don't think there's a modern FWD tranny that's particularly good unless you grab one of the DCT/DSG boxes from BMW/VW

If that’s the case than just throw in the lousy CVT. It beats this piece of shit 8 speed.
Still not sure how they messed up the transmission. My RX has the same 8 speed but it acts just like a normal 6 speed but with 2 additional over drive gears
