Pre-Black Friday, Black Friday Week, etc. Times have changed. In any case, any good or better deals, please share.

Won't be long before they have Black Friday Month.

Black Fridays Matter!

Origin of Black Friday has nothing to do with anything except, you're supposed to be out of the red and into the black. Don't think common folk will ever get out of the red theses days.

Not really a great deal, but the offer doesn't happen that often. Damn you, Costco. They stopped carrying Apple Gift Cards at a discount.

Anyhow, Superstore has 10% off Apple Gift Cards. For every $50.00, get 5000 points. Up to $500.00 worth.

One time use.

I download lots of music, so any bit helps. Now, if I can only figure out how to use my gift card balance to purchase shit for my on-line games, it'd be great.

As I said in the Costco thread, anyone looking for a TV, if you go into Bestbuy and have them beat Visions offer, you should be able to get a longer free warranty as well as BB beat the visions price on any TV they are offering it on, some good value there although I still hate BestBuy

As for Entertainment Electronics, my only go to place is Sunny Electronics. I get best prices with no haggling needed. Owner sees me and knows right away............... gulolol.

Warranty issues? He takes care of it all. Speedy service? No, but I know what to expect.

I find that the good deals happen before Black Friday nowadays, at least for electronics.

I'm focusing on home improvement this year and bought these Lutron Caseta smart light switches since they're priced at an all-time low. Pretty happy with the system so far - feels more stable than my Kasa light switches.

I usually keep my eye on KMS for Milwaukee tools. https://www.kmstools.com/kmsflyeronline/#page1

They had this 3/8" M12 Ratchet and 1/2 Impact Gun with Batteries and charger for $300. Perfect for winter/spring swaps and the ratchet just makes everything quicker than a hand ratchet in most cases. It's sold out for this month, but I have noticed its been at this price for the combo since Oct, so its probably going to pop back up again.

I recently visited their location in Abbotsford and it's a much nicer experience than the one in Coquitlam. Lots of cool stuff there.

Langley and Abbotsford locations are much nicer than the Coquitlam location. Now that a couple of the workers from Coquitlam have transferred to the other locations, it might be worth it to go Abbotsford or Langley. Perhaps on the way back into Canada on my weekly trips to Bellingham.

Coquitlam is the ghetto location, but has its charm.

I saw some deals out there for Rogers that are along the lines of $50 a month for 50 gb, $5 off if you swap in from Fido, and you get a free Pixel 7 (which you can sell for couple hundred bucks).

In August, I decided to upgrade the phone. Not a big upgrade. Went from iPhone XR to iPhone 13. I go to Bellingham every week, so US data was important. $55/month for 40 GB data +5G. I use maximum 6 gb a month, but unlimited talk and text to/from Canada and US is great. Data is unlimited in both countries, but speed reduces after the 40 GB. I've been with Wind/Freedom for a while, so it made sense to stay with them. The transfer was supposed to be simple, but I think the people at Kingsgate location were a little green. The rate during PNE was slightly better, but it was only for new accounts. I also received $5.00 off per month for loyalty or something like that. So, $50.00/month for 40GB.

Daughter needed a microwave. Found one at Sunny Electronics. Didn't think they carried microwaves. They carry Panasonic. Maybe give them a call.

Costco has Panasonic microwave, but the one they carry is cheaply made - door release mechanism looks like it will break easily.

From Dyson, so it basically means all other stores will have similar deals. I got my Dyson vacs at about this time. Got it from Canadian Tire. Got 50x points off, plus used their 24 month interest free equal payment plan. If I had my Select membership back then, I would have saved a hella amount of money.

It's leaking fluid, even though the screws are tight

i had a old V7 or V8 whatever "Monster". That vac has lasted over 10 years and is still going. My brother in law bought the same vac and it crapped out a year into ownership.

The only reason i bought that newer v15 is because i had such a good experience with the old one and we need 2 vacs now to gobble up all my white powder everywhere. :accepted: Thank god its costco cuz i dont think ill buy another one after this.

The wife does have 2 of those dyson hair products (curler, hair dryer) and she seems to like it. Although that curler seems to be kinda on the fritz if you rotate the cord too much so once again not the best quality.

Lol same story. V6 since 2016 and I used and abused the shit out of it. About 2 years ago the battery only lasted like 2 mins so I replaced it and it ran like a champ again and finally about 6 months ago the motorhead after years of abuse vacuuming hair from the wife made it go bye bye. I did think about buying a new motorhead but instead bought a new V12 instead. The V6 is now a secondary vacuum we just keep upstairs with the wand attachment. To be honest I'm surprised the V6 lasted that long, the amount of hair alone we vacuumed was ridiculous and the V6 didn't have the technology to handle hair like the new ones yet I would only on avg needed to take apart the motor and detangle all the hair maybe once every 12-18 months.

The Costco Torin is listed as 3.34 inches which may work for most ppl, but unfortunately not for me.

IMO, those stick vacuums are gimmicky, but I'm looking for one to clean up after the new puppy due to the debris it brings back from walks. Any recommendations for a cheap one with HEPA filter? I'm thinking Shark if I can find a Black Friday deal.

+1 I have a Dyson DC07 (circa 2001-2003) my parents bought refurbished 20 years ago, and it still sucks like a champ. Very easy to clean and repair and find spare parts.

Even back then people complained how its plasticky and overpriced, but honestly it's been great.

Excluded the V15 detect? That's the one I actually want though..... :yuno:

I tried the coupon and it worked from my end

Not sure why the terms and conditions say it's excluded when it works.

For anyone using the coupons, it should apply for majority of the products, even if it's excluded

avoid hisense too. we have two for our work security cameras and in less than 2 years one died. also my friend had a 55" that died after about 1 year as well. they are technically pretty good for the money but a tv dying in a year or two is ridiculous.

Updated deal with the Dyson V15 when purchasing it directly from the website.

It's currently $799, but if you have a Perkopolis account, you can generate a coupon for an additional 10% off

Then you can stack that deal with Rakuten rebates which is at 20%.

If my math is right, the net costs should be $662 tax in and Rakuten rebate

I recently visited their location in Abbotsford and it's a much nicer experience than the one in Coquitlam. Lots of cool stuff there.

Fricken hell........ the place is huge! I met the gal who used to work at the Coquitlam location. She's now one of the managers (or whatever they're called) at the Abby location and she told me they have the largest Surplus section in all of Canada, including their flagship store in Winnipeg.

Also, an interesting tidbit. Princess Auto in Coquitlam is going to be renovated. 'Bout time. Shoppers from this side of the river aren't tickled by going into the valley to get cheap crappy tools, gulolol.

My usual go-to spot for wine glasses is HomeSense or TJMax down in the US.

Quite decent quality general speaking and very affordable. To a point where you wouldn't feel a thing when some stupid kid from your guests just happens to break one. There are a few brands that frequent in those stores. You can even choose to stick to a particular brand if uniformity is a thing for your household.

Call the regular CS line and ask for retentions or loyalty. You can schedule a callback from the chatbot so it might work better if you want them to call you instead. Took me 10 minutes after calling in. They'll say that because you're changing plans, they have to charge you $15 to do it. Ask them nicely to waive it :)

I've had this plan for a couple months now, last week they offered $50 for 60GB Canada/US for EPP plans and I was going to jump on it since I don't come close to 60GB in a month but figured I'd wait for Black Friday to see if anything better came out.

Now they've taken it away and are only offering it to new subscribers so I might have fucked myself out of saving $15 a month lol

Not sure if it's worth the hassle of switching to Rogers EPP to get the deal.

For a push button coffee comes out type of machine, yes it's quite good. The milk steaming is good as well but you have to run a rinse cycle every day that you use the milk container to avoid dried milk in the steaming mechanism. The group inside can be pulled out to wash and clean, and it's a fairly straightforward machine.

My only complaint is when I had one is that it uses a lot of water to clean lol, it likes to run rinse cycle a lot, but that's a good thing in the long run. Don't do super dark roasts with any super auto machine, that tends to gum them up inside.

I bought one. Hopefully it’s good. I’m not a coffee drinker but it would be nice to have a cup in the morning and sit in the backyard.

When you boys come over you can have a nice cup of joe

There are like 7 threads on RFD for cell phones, though most of them seem to be BYOD.

That said, if you wanna explore that route, Costco is doing discounts on flagship phones bought outright. Might be your best 'deal' although $$ upfront.

Yea.. it seems like $34 for 40gb is what most carriers are doing. The mobile shop in Superstore is, I think, giving 150k optimum points, plus other bonuses for signing up plans there.

That said, there are lineups at all locations lol:badpokerface:

First world logic problems :drunk:

Last year I was able to capitalize on a decent plan with Koodo. It was with Best Buy, 2 year term $45 a month with a Pixel 6a (which I sold the phone for $340) and a $300 gift card) few months after I changed the plan to get it as low as $35 a month.

But with the recent black Friday sales, my plan is now $40 which still includes a $20 bill credit from last year's deal. My plan is 100gb with CAN US roaming and data roll over.

Was waiting on hold to speak with Koodo retentions dept to see if I could get their black Friday deal which is exactly the same as Fido's.

But took so long by the time I finished registering with Fido I was still on hold.

So dumb they should just make it available to existing customers like Fido did.

I haven't read too deep on the Fido side of things, but according to RFD, existing Fido customers lost the ability to change over to the black Friday plan. I was able to do it like around 8am in the morning today.

I'm an existing customer of 15+ years and was able to change my plan twice this week. First to the $34/30gb(live chat), then to the $34/40gb(fido store).

Technically you'll get dinged for the full month, but for the remaining days that go unused, it gets prorated and refunded in a form of a cheque mailed to your home

That's my experience from porting Rogers to koodo

Your Telus bill that came out is for the upcoming month. Just port your number to cancel and then wait for the following bill which will be properly adjusted.

Don't pay first and wait for an adjustment, wait for the adjustment and then pay.

Went to check out the Black Friday sale at Summit Tools. I needed a tool bag. A small one, just to carry a couple of cordless tools, extra batteries, and charger. They had Milwaukee and Dewalt ones for $4.97. I really didn't look that hard for tools, but did pick up a cheap Milwaukee M12 1/4 inch hex impact driver, non Fuel for $49.99.

Summit take cordless tool sets apart and sell the items individually. That's why they have like over 1000 contractor bags and shitloads of chargers. All new, but from combo sets.

For those of you looking to switch carriers (for whatever reason) Fido now offers new activation plan for $34 for 50GB when you bring your own phone. Only caveat (if it matters to anyone) is you are limited to 4G LTE speeds I believe up to 150Mbps and no access to 5G network. I use less than 3GB a month (and that's trying) so the use case is perfect for me. :)

Wanting the long reach, but I rarely touch stuff theses days. Getting too old for working on cars like I used to. Oil changes are about it, lol.

I want the Milwaukee Pruner. Got Milwaukee hedge trimmer, grass trimmer, hatchet, etc.

I have too many tools (said no one, ever). Did I mention tripod lights, floodlights, inflators, multitesters, vacuums - all Milwaukee. Don’t ask how many batteries and chargers I have.

+1 I have a Dyson DC07 (circa 2001-2003) my parents bought refurbished 20 years ago, and it still sucks like a champ. Very easy to clean and repair and find spare parts.

Even back then people complained how its plasticky and overpriced, but honestly it's been great.

Dyson also has pretty good customer service. We had a V8 (I think) and needed some replacement parts even though it was several years old and because of how it's built they had to send us a new motor and housing so by buying a new battery we now have two V8s in the house. They've also sent a free battery replacement as well with minimal hassle.

Maybe other stick vacs have caught on performance but Dyson was the first and my wife loves our V8s and wouldn't want to switch brands at this point. She loves everything they sell now.

Love their car fragrances. Their holders, not so much. I have plain ones in matte black, grey, and silver, but they are really hard to get on sale days.

For this time of year, I put in the, “Tis’ the Season,” refills. Same with the Wallflowers. Simple plain holders. I look at the glittery shit they have and cringe. Something those women who drive around in cars with eyelashes would love.

Edit: Forgot to mention that you can stack offers. They give you $10.00 off $40.00 coupon after each purchase. I asked and they gave me one on Black Friday. It was buy 3 get 3 deal on that day.

More or less been having the same thought for a while now that the PS5 is easy to get but then I stop and take a look at what's out and it looks kind of bunk. Then I question is it because I've gotten older and the games just look lame or is it just actually lame? I think it's our priorities. I don't have kids yet so maybe that will change.

Last game I successfully played and finished was Final Fantasy 7 on PS1 and Untitled Goose Game on PC and Nintendo Switch. My track record for video games is poor so it's hard for me to justify spending $700+ on a console for a single game, plus whatever expenses required to get a sim setup.

Diablo 4 is pretty decent and entirely playable on the PS5. The only thing you really miss out on is the ability to type (to communicate with other players). But then if you are in the same party, most likely they will have their mics anyway, so you just chat through that.

I have extra and am a bigtime gamer. Yes, the price increase sucks ass but there's quite a few games that I was interested in playing that I didn't buy so when I saw them on extra, it justified the purchase. Ever since the price increase 2 months ago, there hasn't been anything good added. My extra subscription expires in January so we'll see if I decide to renew with extra or just the essential as I need it for multi player

is PSplus worth it?

Depends how many games you play and if you care about current gen or older games. I have middle tier because I only care about last gen and current gen.

Thought about buying a PS5 with Shoppers Drug Mart bonus redemption... but the price of titles + PS Plus + my dwindling attention span for games (and the fact that I already have a PC) don't make it too appealing. Honestly the only reason I was thinking of it was for GTA 6 multiplayer.

I wish they'd announce when they're planning the PS5 Pro, then at least you'd know if it's worth buying a PS5 right now.

I'd say it a worthwhile purchase, although this generation has been the the worst one I can remember.

Devs are still pushing out PS4 compatible turds, meanwhile the PS5 has been out for almost 4 goddamn years now.

is it me or did ps4 have the shortest run ever? i totally bypassed the system as i dont recall there was a single worthwhile exclusive title on it.

actually same with the PS5. The only title i wanted to play was Gran Turismo, nothing else exclusive. Almost all Triple-A titles are cross-platformed nowadays so it hardly makes a difference which consoles you buy or don't buy *unless you buy a switch*

PS4 actually did quite well by the look of it, came out on 2013 in the top 10 of console sales all time. Wouldn’t have figured

Games take forever to make now so you're lucky if your favorite blockbuster game comes out once every console generation. If GTA 6 comes out in a couple of years GTA 7 won't drop until years into PS7 territory.

Instead Sony is giving us Remasters of games like The Last of Us 2 that already looked great and isn't even that old, wtf are you remastering lol

Speaking of The Last of Us. Season one was filmed in the Calgary area. Season Two will be filmed, for the most part, in the Vancouver aea. Bringing in a shit load of money and much needed jobs (now that the writers strike is over, things are looking up). I should try to get a gig as an extra..............

You don't want to be an extra on Last of Us. My friend worked on Season 1 and is prepping to work on Season 2 now that the strike is over. He was telling me what a shit job it was for the extras. Standing around all day waiting, barely making any money.

Was he a Non-union extra? because they'll be paid hourly. Whereas, if he was part of the union he'd get a minimum 8 hours at 232.42.

Did anybody head out for Boxing Day today?
Metrotown seemed busier than Black Friday surprisingly.
Deals were pretty garbage, but still managed to pick up a few shirts from Zara.
Thinking of doing the rest of my shopping online.

Metrotown was a clusterfuck........... I just went through the parking lot and continued on to Lougheed Mall and Coquitlam. I think driving around Metrotown area is worse than Richmond. I blame it on Crystal Mall and all those new, young asian drivers.

I love the new A&W commercial............ two white chicks........ one chick is a new driver. Drives up on curb, misses the drive through window............ "You're such a good driver..... yes, you are..............." Imagine if the commercial used asian drivers instead. Bwahahahahaha........

Can someone upload a video of it? I can't find it. They changed the ending of the commercial. It was much funnier.

Don't trust picking up used 30xx cards because of mining. No way to tell if the card's all used up already. I'm coming from a 1070 so it should be a good upgrade regardless

Anyone change their phone plans during black friday?

I changed to Fido's $40 for 40GB and now I got hit with a $37.55 1 time charge for each line that I changed. I didn't read the fine print, but WTF OMG BBQ. Anyone else get this charge?

This was recent though not Black Friday

i think my wife told me they had a promo that was texted to you (something about an additional free 30gig of data on your EXISTING plan) and if you took that, they dinged you a "account change" fee.

SSM_DC5

Fido Chat was much faster to get an agent than my previous attempts, perhaps it's just because it's not black friday anymore. Turns out, they didn't charge me anything last month, so they charged me 2 months worth this time around. I purposely tried to do any changes via the online site by myself to avoid any BS admin fees because it seems to be the norm where if a real person touches your account, you'll have to pay fees.

If you perform the price plan change online on Fido.ca, there's no service fee. But if you talk to someone, the service charge is there.

Are you sure its not just the prorated cost of your old plan up until the change to your new plan? Ie. if you were coming from a $50/month plan and you changed on the 15th day, you would owe $25 for the first half of a month and then $20 for the next half of the month at your new $40/month plan? The bill always looks fucked until the first proper full month especially with all the credits etc.

I took advantage of Freedom Mobile's Boxing Day Promo on its last day. Went from 40 GB 5G US/Canada to 100GB for free.

The original plan offered was more data for less monthly. I wanted that, but had to pay $300+ to get out of my contract (new phone). Some lady on the phone with a thick accent tried to explain things to me. I couldn't understand 90% of what she was saying. I hung up and went into the FM location in Metropolis. Dude explained everything in plain English. 40 to 100 for free. No extra/hidden charges. I don't think I've ever used more than 30 GB of data ever. Anyway.....................
