I think typically for what you get with the kitchen aid set from Costco when they have them that’s pretty tough to beat even in Black Friday. Might get just the base machine slightly cheaper but don’t have the conscience of the return policy.

My tire pump died. This is the third one I've killed over the last 10 years. Do you guys know which one(s) will not crap out on me? Should be battery powered so I can take it with me.
i use a dinky 12v campbell hausfeld inflator that plugs into your cig lighter and it's been awesome. used it at least 10x over the years and have had it in my car for at least 5 years no problems. i wouldn't really buy a battery one but that's just me. why buy one with a battery when you have a huge car battery already?
Dbone
11-19-2024, 09:20 AM
I had one of those, and it melted. The one I had seemed fine for a few PSI top up, but nothing serious.
I then bought one that was a proper compressor that I clipped directly to the battery. That was great, but the seals have gone and it was bulky.
Then I picked up one of those CAT chargers/starters/lights/power banks. That was fine, but now the battery won't hold a charge and it won't go above 35psi (when I tow).

Ryobi tire inflator is really cheap compared to Milwaukee's. I've only killed 1 pump before and it was a $15 one from Canadian tire. Pump made sounds but didn't build pressure.
if you're using it all the time not just for emergency use then i guess that's totally different. in that case i would buy the best one you can afford if you're relying on it for track.

11-19-2024, 09:33 AM
What tool brand are you running? I would use the portable inflator from that brand.
BIC_BAWS
11-19-2024, 10:02 AM
If you're already in the Milwaukee M12 ecospace, the inflator can be found on FBM for $60-80, tool only.
I've had mine for the last 3 years and it can easily do 6 -12 cars on a single charge.
Only downside is that it's consistently off by 2psi.

I have a Craftsman tire inflator. It has a cigarette lighter plug and uses their ecosystem of batteries. I take it with me to the track and on road trips. Air is not free anymore. :okay:
Badhobz lent me his CAT-branded battery pack with built in tire inflator which I think he bought from Costco. I believe it goes on sale from time to time, but is regularly stocked in store.
Thankfully, I didn't have to use it when I was in town. I appreciate his thoughtfulness. Vehicle in question was a 2004 Mini Cooper S with (at the time) 332,000KM and highly neglected from lack of maintenance.

Likewise for TV... been using the same 40" LCD since 2011 and it works fine... but now that I have a huge house might as well get something bigger for the "movie room" area.
I don't want to lose 3 weeks of my life going down TV statistics rabbit holes... but my school of thought is:
Do you go massive and since it's not side by side with something and has decent NITS then it looks amazing compared to what you're used to... I'm thinking the 98" Samsung that's like $1k off at Costco right now for $3k.. or is there actual value in getting a 65" LG OLED Evo top of the line set?
Bigger is better? Or Quality is better? Can I even notice the quality if they're not side by side? FWIW Costco doesn't have the 98" on display anywhere that I've seen lol
Samsung 98": https://www.costco.ca/samsung-98%22-class---du9000-series---4k-uhd-led-lcd-tv.product.4000293237.html
LG 65" OLED Evo: https://www.costco.ca/lg-65%22-class---oled-c3-series---4k-uhd-oled-tv.product.4000179122.html
Or do you go completely no-name brand like Hisense or TCL for under $1k and get a warranty?
Hondaracer

IMO high end TV’s are worth the price. Especially if you use it a lot
Was actually laying around watching YouTube and a few shows last night and thought to myself it’s so nice to have such a nice TV to watch this content on. You’re a bit ignorant without a side by side comparison but you’ll notice as you sift through content.
Very happy with my LG G3, however I will say that comparatively at these top level sets, Sony is still king imo. Especially for upscaling SDR content.
If you have a big space, then yea you kinda want bigger and bigger to make it feel more suited to the space. I have a 65” in a 12x15 foot room, sitting about 10 feet away and it’s about as big as I would ever go.. MAYBE a 70”

Buy the LG OLED from Costco during BF AND get a 5 year warranty for essentially peanuts. :concentrate:
EDIT: Also yeah figure out the space you have. I have a 11x15 TV area and 65 is about as large as I think I want to go for comfortable viewing. If it's bright (windows) OLED may not be the greatest idea, even the new EVO versions.

As a former telecom tech, Philips are, imo, among the worst brands I’ve ever had to deal with lol
Philips and RCA are the same in terms of nothing ever seemed to work with universal remotes, couldn’t program Telus/Shaw remotes to them, HDMI compatibility issues etc. lol
On the point of OLED’s, imo the glare/bright room issues are mostly resolved, I have mine in a bright living room that gets uncontrollable ambient light and it’s fine
The brightness of OLEDs and the MLA tech seemed to have resolved most issues

Way too subjective, everyone will be different but for me it's Seahorse for life, specifically the diamond mattress. 2 sides one rock fucking hard and the other not so much. Though in my experience the not so hard side is still harder than any western mattress out there so if you're not used to this it may not be for you or perhaps may not know yet it's for you.

1953: Sharp mass-produced TVs before television broadcasting began.
2015: Sharp sold its North American TV business to Hisense, a Chinese TV maker.
2016: Foxconn acquired Sharp.
2017: Foxconn sued Hisense for selling TVs under the Sharp brand that violated FCC rules.
2018: Foxconn dropped the lawsuit against Hisense.
2019: Sharp regained the license from Hisense and resumed making Sharp-branded TVs.
2022: Sharp announced its return to the U.S. TV market.

all i can say is we bought 2 hisense tvs for our work security cameras and they both broke within 2 years. also my friends 55" died after just over a year. im sure this happens here and there with all brands depending on the model but my impression isn't good based on those experiences.

Anyone have suggestions for a bluetooth speaker? Looking for something that won't take up a ton of space. Ideally something that would fit easily on a washroom counter. Bonus points if it's stylish too.
Other than that, no idea what I want/need to buy. Maybe some over the ears headphones? Wouldn't mind a set for long haul flights.

I use a Sony one that is waterproof enough to take in the shower with me, and has been reliable for years. But I'm sure the model has been replaced since then, but if I were to buy a new one that's where I'd look first

In the world of electronics, cheaper products sell based on specs but the quality of their components don’t compare to the bigger/better brands who have a reputation to protect. The cheap brands are far more likely (and perhaps engineered) to fail before a quality product with the same specs on a datasheet.
For example, I bought a Sharp Aquos back in the day before they were acquired. A coworker shopping for TVs at the same time said the Samsung he bought had better specs for a lower price. Roughly 10 years later he was on his 3rd Samsung when my Aquos finally died.
Don’t buy based on spec sheets. That’s how they get you because you’ll likely shop the same way when the product inevitably fails.

browsing through BestBuy deals and the Marshall brand catches my eye. they've got some decent prices for them too. good bass is for sure a criteria now that i'm actually looking. currently using a really small Philips one a friend picked up for me from HK many years ago. Still goes strong but I'm well overdue for an upgrade haha.

I use this IKEA portable speaker on my washroom counter - it gives out good bass and doubles as an ambient lamp.

I was looking for an Atmos creating soundbar to compliment the new TV since the one I had in my condo was a 15 year old Yamaha that was expensive at the time, but was severely lacking in being able to hear dialogue in lots of shows, etc.
Lots of people suggested Sonos but I don't like the fact you have to enter into that ecosystem with it and the Sony Bravia 9 is expensive and lots of middling reviews and their Quad system is $2,500 which is kind of crazy. Everyone was saying to go with the Samsung Q990D if you can afford it... think it's $1,500 on sale for Black Friday... I ended up finding some reviews o a lesser known Q930C model which rated just under the Q990 and only Visions has it and it's $898... usually a $1,700 system... the D modelis on sale for $1,400 on Samsung's own website but almost no difference between the C and D. I did way too much research on soundbars but feel like this is the best combo of excellent sound and not paying $2k+ if you want to check it out:

So Sonos has been under fire in the last 3-4 months and lost almost half their share value because they released a massive app update and it completely fucked everyone’s systems and it’s still not resolved.
Huge connectivity issues, compatibility issues etc. it’s to the point where people are speculating if the company will go under because it was a fuck up to that degree. I’ve got their amp and 3 PLAYS and I’ve had my fair share of really annoying issues as well.
Apparently with newer components the issues aren’t as prevalent but something to keep in mind with Sonos.
That Samsung one you posted though, my dad has an older model of the same line I believe and he’s also had a bunch of issues with his. Mostly in the wireless rears in that he has to reset the sub almost every time in order to get the rears to sync again, he’s using it with an older LG OLED

I think the Sonos issue is overblown unless you use their app for anything beyond changing the volume. I have a Sonos'd house and it works fine for me.
The Arc Ultra looks great, I have the OG Arc and a Sub Mini in the TV area + rear One SL surrounds, and movies like Dune/Interstellar/Top Gun Maverick have great Atmos moments. I want to upgrade to Era 300 rears and Arc Ultra but don't really need to...

I think those having issues would obviously be complaining a lot. No doubt Sonos completely screwed the pooch on the initial app release. It was very poorly handled.

Mine is likely due to a mixture of old and new components, I have the amp which is the newer “backbone” component then two of the older grey and black Play ones or whatever, which did not have Apple play built into them. The app update seemed to fuck over people who have a mixture of older and newer components like myself the most
However, having “old” (they are only 4-5 years old) components which worked flawlessly previously isn’t really a justifiable reason to say oh, well you’re SOL, used to work before but now we blame it on your router, your wifi, etc. lol

I've been using my Xiaomi M365 for years now. Only annoyance is the tires will go flat with mild/moderate use. You can resolve this issue with solid tires but ride quality suffers (not that your kid would care, probably). Max speed 26km/hr and range is supposed to be 30km I believe. At the time, I got it on sale through BestBuy for about $450.

Yup if you have the space, way better option than the sound bars. I set up a 5.2.4 setup in my den with an Atmos receiver and Klipsch speakers off craigslist/FB marketplace. The dust storm in The Martian is nuts with Atmos.
The receiver you linked doesn't have Atmos though.
However, not everyone wants to mess with wiring, setup and configuration. For most people, a soundbar is good enough, from a physical space, usage, setup and convenience standpoint. A lot of people don't even know how to activate surround sound settings on their sources.

I have a weird tendency to collect small Bluetooth speakers from like the size of a thumb up to a Klipsch Three Heritage… my favourite one sound wise out of all the ones I have is a medium size Sony tube one. They don’t sell it anymore but the equivalents are probably these 2:

I would highly recommend the Sony in your price range based on the 15 or so speakers I have.
I’ve also heard other peoples JBL’s and agree they offer good performance for the price too. I have on and off thought of getting a Marshall but wasn’t blown away trying them out in stores in years past. They could have updated their tech though, I stopped buying any after realizing I had a problem lol.
You could always buy like 3… JBL, Sony and Marshall and try them all out and return 2 if you can’t get into a store to try them out I guess!

Yup same been selecting this option in East Van on days that I know I'm going in the office and it's been sweet waking up in the morning and getting my shit before I head out. Sure, for the more paranoid this could be easy pickens for those late night baddies roaming around the streets checking for unlocked doors but I'm generally not ordering anything pricey. For me I've been seeing this option for probably 2 months now

from what I've read, mattress companies make fake review sites, customer service for the online mattress companies are terrible and make it very difficult to even try doing a return during their free trial periods. A lot of reviews online are fake. /tinfoil hat.

Highly recommend against going with Sleep Country for anything. Go buy a mattress anywhere else should be their real slogan.
I had purchased a $1300 matress from them years ago. Within 6-12 months, the damn thing noticeably sunk in the middle; so much so that I would almost literally roll into the middle. When I asked for a replacement, they obliged but it was also garbage that sunk in the middle once more. At that point I was fed up and asked for a refund to which they said they only give store credit. So I was basically stuck with a shit mattress and the whole experience had soured me on their products.
This damn thing wasn't one of those cheap shit mattresses either. At that price point, you'd expect that mattress to last you a good long time. In the end, I think I just lived with the damn mattress until I bought a replacement elsewhere. Which, at the time I had been introduced to some shady warehouse in Richmond selling mattresses for cash. I bought that one for $450 and it has lasted until now! Still a great mattress and about to 1/3 of the price.
So yeah, if you're going to buy something from Shit Country, better try out a bunch of potential replacements because your money isn't coming back to you once you've made that purchase. My friends have had bad experiences with them too.
Badhobz
11-25-2024, 07:45 AM
wait wait wait, but they give you a replacement, and they offered you store credit, why didnt you get another mattress from a different brand ?

After nearly 2 years of dealing with this shit I was fed up with them and didn't want to try anything else they had. This was quite a long time ago, I just didn't want to be bothered. My logic at the time was, if this thing cost me $1300 + taxes, why would anything else they have be any better? This was already "top of the line" at the time.
that's interesting, i've bought 3 mattresses from them, and i think i've had good experiences from them. i went with to the grandview location in east van, but i guess it doesn't matter as it was a product issue in your case vs a sales person issue...
though they did say they would give me pucks for my 1st bed for for the wheels and never did... but i later realized i can buy pads from the dollar store so it wasn't a big deal.
but ya moving forward i would def consider costco, but with a show room floor you can lie on several mattresses for the feel if soft/medium/firm, pillow top no pillow top etc...
Looking for an electric pressure washer for around the yard. Don't need more than 2000 psi, but hoping for something with variable pressure settings. Any recommendations?
i use the spyder brand. takes a few minutes to get the pressure to fill the pump and lines properly but once it gets going it's pretty good. i bought it at costco so that i can pull a badhobz in 5 years and return them with a little persuasion if they break
. also for a hose, i highly recommend setting up a retractable hose reel. we just have normal hoses around the house but once i relocate the bibs to where i want them i'm definitely getting reels. nothing more annoying than hoses laying around or having to coil dirty hoses constantly.

I use a Greenworks power snow shovel. Works great, but I wish it had a chute. If I get too close to my neighbor's sidewalk I end up throwing snow on their end, or I start throwing snow on the street/on their car. You have to aim to an open space like your lawn.
It can shovel slush, depending how heavy it is.
One complaint I have is that holding it gets kinda heavy over time. Still beats shovelling.

at our commercial property we normally ask the guy down the street with an ATV to come plow our yard as soon as it falls but sometimes he is busy doing sidewalks for his other contracts. we thought about buying our own atv but storing it all year and using it like 3x in a year just doesnt really make tons of sense. i don't really wanna get a trailer and take it places recreationally either, i dont have any friends that atv. considering maybe buying like a 28" gas snow blower. is this like a total waste of time for doing a small commercial lot? the plowable area (that matters) is maybe 5000sf.

I've used a snowjoe electric shovel and didn't like it for the reasons already mentioned, but also that the ground surface needs to be fairly smooth due to the weight of the shovel.
Otherwise, as you push it forward, if you hit a rut or a bump due to uneven surface, you stop suddenly and it's heavy to lift up.
If the pavement is relatively smooth it's probably ok but if you're on a rougher surface like say aggregate, it was more frustrating than anything else.
Not to mention the hassle of dealing with the electric cord. And it was ridiculously loud.

The newer 80V snowblowers/snow shovel are pretty good with wet snow, flings it decently far if it's not crazy deep. Above 6-8" it starts to struggle (heyoo) and needs smaller bites/more passes overall.
I have a Greenworks 80V snowblower and a sloped paved driveway that can fit 6-8 cars to deal with, it really helps haha.

Been searching for a good phone plan. Would like something cheaper than my current $40 for 40gb+20gb bonus from Fido. They were willing to offer $34 for 60gb, but wants $15 to process the changes. In the past year I didn't go over 20gb of usage.

Not that kit. Barely anything happens in the interior as the parts are installed above the transmission under the hood.

I just noticed, its not listed as a sale, however its far off the regular price, I normally keep an eye on this product, but the Logitech G29 is $279.99 at Walmart today. Normally listed there at 349-399, the last time I saw it a few weeks ago it was at $399.
I was really tempted but I'm waiting to get a bigger place before I get one of these again.

That short shifter is installed in the engine bay - it's the shift linkage at the transmission end that gets shortened.

If you don't have EPP, these are the offers I got from Telus:
$35 - 100GB Canada Wide
$45 - 200GB Can-Us-Mex
I also did quite a bit of research on other brands like Fizz, Public Mobile and Freedom, all roughly around the same price point. (spreadsheet here (https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1poJLjCPQ4DA2DrTYGjvQCgnBcZSCkoZTxHiTrSq6Mpw/edit?usp=sharing))
Fizz would be my choice if I was gonna go with someone outside of the majors. They allow for data rollover (up to 2 mo) and if you needed more, the forums (other members) can gift you extra data. You can also switch your plan whenever. For instance, if say Jan-May you're only gonna be in Canada, you can be on the Canadian plan then switch to Can-US for July, switch back after. Fizz uses the Freedom network when in Vancouver, Fizz-EXT uses Rogers/Verizon, but has access to all 3 majors. You can apparently just select which network you want. Downside with Fizz is that you have to use a VoLTE capable phone.
Public Mobile seems to be pretty reliable for the cheaper brands. Per track chat, it works mostly everywhere. VIMC, A27, Ridge, etc. Aka the middle of nowhere. No data rollover, but it's had more tenure in Vancouver than Fizz. Freedom I hear just sucks, but I threw that in there for the sake of comps.
For me, the extra $50/mo is made up in savings on my Telus Home Services that I'll be eligible to get once I move Mobility onto the account.

I would've gone for the $35/45 Public Mobile can-us-mex deal if their service includes wifi calling and international roaming. There are still a few services I use that authenticate through SMS and don't have the option to use a mobile app/authenticator.

My plan ended up being $50/mo cause we got a S24 FE. Mom's phone turned out to be locked to Fido (we were on Rogers prior) so it was easier to just get a new phone. Mom + Dad offered me the phone, but all new phones don't have expandable storage anymore so I can't switch. Plus, if I have US-CAN-MEX, I don't really need e-sim capability anyway.

I was gonna say Sony XM5, but then I realized even at the reduced price it's still $100 more. So probably not.
I'm not a huge fan of the Sennheiser sound signature. Too bass heavy and once you've picked up on how the Sennheisers sound, you realize they tune a lot of their headphones the same way.

Really? I've owned four Sennheisers, including the momentum 2 and I found them very crisp but lacking in base.
I've had two sets of buds, one on ear, and one over ear. The over ear eventually fell apart.
My favorites are still my Bose 350s so maybe I just require a ton of base?

I thought Senn's were known for lacking bass as well... surprised to ready the bass heavy opinion.
I have a really old pair of HD598's and without an amp they lack bass. With an amp I think it's "just right" those are really beautiful headphones for the money I can hear so many details in music that I can't hear with earbuds. They're usually in the $300 range. I would highly recommend those with a small amp, you probably won't ever want anything more.
They are not enclosed though if that is a concern for you.
