Late night Richmond food (2am)

Hey guys. Figured you can give us some suggestions. My coworkers and I are not off til ~midnight and it’s difficult to find stuff after work to go eat and socialize. We used to be off an hour earlier which meant getting last call but nowadays it feels our options have dwindled.
We used to hit Matsuyama or Lotus but they aren’t open late enough anymore. Boston pizza is a mid option but the one on 3 road closed down now.
Lately we’ve been hitting up Big Way as it’s tasty and open late. Last night was Silver Tower. Then sometimes Denny’s or Great Canadian BrewPub but those are hot garbage.
There’s always #9 but we’d all prefer a more ‘individual’ ordering system instead of going the communal group ordering and figuring out how to split/share etc
Pretty much any food suggestion is welcome. Would love a ramen/pho/sushi place. Definitely want to stick to Richmond though.
And car just for content :p

I'm surprised #9 wouldn't let you guys do individual bills, esp when it is late night.

Bro you don't know about Tian Shi Fu yet? Skewers and noodles, last I checked open until 4am. Next to Moore's at RC

Ahh yes I forgot about hai di lao. I as a group theyve gone to tian shi fu but I haven’t yet. Skewers get pricey fast but as you said (and they agree) the rice and noodle dishes hit hard.
@red yeah man! 1am hot pot is awesome. I usually do around a $20 meal and I am stuffed from big way. I much prefer this style to the big shared hot pot. Just more fun to see how others make their bowls

How can you stay up so late. It’s 10:30pm now and I wanna die… I should have been in bed an hour ago.

If you are into Mexican food, I suggest Bandito's. Good burritos and a lively atmosphere. The separate area of the restaurant is for a dance floor and a DJ.

Sorry, my bad.
Neptune Wonton Noodle house is also a favorite of mine for late night Chinese food in Richmond. -would say that the quality of food is mid. Decent.
Neptune has the OG vibe of a Hong Kong style cafe. They are open until 2am.

I was so confused when I saw his post and had to do a double take on the thread to confirm OP was asking about Richmond, BC. :concentrate::accepted:

What? Your post doesn't make sense. why did you recommend us a Mexican place in Richmond VA and then pivot to Chinese food when called out on it?

It's my bad haha. -did not read the address correctly for the Mexican restaurant.
I pivot to the Chinese restaurant Neptune Noodle because some friends and I have gone to that place for late night food a few times.
-realized my mistake when I double checked the address for that Bandito's Lounge.
The Neptune Noodle restaurant is a recommendation to make up for the Mexican mess up.
If you guys are craving Mexican food, I do have a recommendation if you want it.
That Mexican restaurant is not in Richmond. It's in east Van. They close at 10pm for their business hours though.

Maizal RMF. I highly recommend Maizal. RMF stands for Real Mexican Food. The owners stand by their restaurant name. The Mexican food is authentic.
https://maizalmsf.ca/
Maizal is located in the south Main area of east Van. I know that this Mexican place is legit because a Mexican buddy of mine, Jonathan, took me to Maizal last year.
The tacos at Maizal are delicious. Their beef torta (sandwiches) are also good. Big portions of beef in their torta.
Anyways, my buddy Jonathan explained to me that the tacos that he ate at Maizal are really good because he can tell from eating them that the taco shells, soft shell, are hand made. My buddy is from Guadalajara, Mexico so he can tell if the taco shells are hand made or not.
Very few Mexican restaurants offer hand made taco shells for their tacos these days.
Maizal's staff also offer free samples of their Hibiscus rose flower juice if you ask them for a sample.

Sorry but this response seems AI generated
And a Mexican named Jonathan? Nice try buddy, would have believed Juanathan more. :fullofwin:
As for Maizal, I think I ate takeout there during COVID, haven't been back since. But according to google it closes at 10 so not sure if that qualifies for "late night". I mean for me it does but I'm old now.

It’s also 8.50 for a taco. Pretty sure it’s one lousy taco at 8.50. What the fuck kinda pricing is that ?!? Banhmi are 8.50 and that’s a whole banhmi.

I kid you not. My buddy Jonathan Rios said that the tacos at Maizal are delicious.
I ate their ribeye, guacamole, and cilantro tacos along with a beef torta for lunch there. Chef’s kiss!
Hobz, I do not live in Richmond so I definitely do not know if there are any Mexican restaurants there.
The tacos are priced at $8.50 each because the taco shells are hand made. -worth the price in my opinion.
The only “Mexican” place that I went to for lunch in Richmond many years ago was at Richmond Centre. That place closed down a long time ago.
Taco Bell at the Richmond Centre food court hahaha.
Taco Bell is not even 1 percent of what Maizal is in terms of quality of food.

Taco Louis is GOATed. Still my favourite taco salad of all time, even though individually nothing about it is good. But it’s sooo good.
Ladner has a lovely taquiera; Sonora MX. it’s a nice little place and the sandwhiches were amazing. Solid if you’re in the area

Big Way on Ackroyd comes in clutch, especially when it closes at 4am.
I could build a solid bowl for about $15 bucks and I'm usually pretty stuffed.
I haven't gone to No 9 in the longest time but looking at the menu, it has gotten pricey.
I still would like to try Hai Di Lao at 2am, but usually when I'm free with some co workers, it ends up on a Friday, which typically has no specials. We usually just end up at Big Way

You know it's legit when all the TFWs in the area gravitate to that joint for food.

Because i hit the gym around 11pm and done around 1200/1230 I've always contemplated hitting up hot pot after but going solo seems weird like how much can I order so #9 takeout and Church's are the usual go to. I've never been to big way and while it may be delicious thebidea of it doesn't appeal to me. Whether it's a different version of the pick your soup base, noodle, and toppings at thkse chinese cafes that became so popular or the noodle version of u Grill I just never had any interest and I certainly will not lineup for it either. I hear coworkers and stuff waiting 45mins I'm like you're nuts!

The line ups at 2am aren't bad at Big Way, most of the time there are tables available. But any other time during regular hours such as lunch and dinner, fuck that shit, not waiting 30 to 60 minutes just to be seated.
No 9, Churches Chicken or McDonald's makes the most sense for solo trips during the late night hours

Hai di lao has updated their hours, closes at 2am daily except Fridays and saturdays at 3am
Big way hot pot on Ackroyd closes slightly earlier on Friday and Saturday at 3am instead of 4am
EDIT: I'm sure you know the secret code already at Hai Di Lao, but if you say your soup is so delicious, they will give you one full sized bag of tomato soup base to take home
