What are y'all rocking for wallets these days? I've had the same wallet for the last ten years but its dying. I used to by cheap/fake wallets but they would only ever last a year or so.
10 years ago i won a bit of money in Vegas and treated myself to a Gucci wallet . Looking to replace that now but doesn't necessarily need to be a fashion design. More looking for quality/function over quality.

I think alot of people have moved to a cardholder/money clip but not sure if that's the way I want to go.

Been using a Gucci leather wallet for the last 10 years.

Had a LV canvas one before that but the stitching split after a few years.

My experience is if you put it in your back pocket, you sit on it etc and it wears out a lot quicker. If you put it in your front pocket or take it out before you sit down it'll last a lot longer.

I see the money clips but I have cards and receipts and other shit in my wallet and I prefer the traditional wallet form factor

I used a black LV card holder an ex-gf gifted me for like a decade+, but when looking for a change I got over myself (being 45+) and went for utility and haven't ever looked back. I use a blue one of this now:

ive been using my comme des garcon zip wallet for like almost 10 years now..
highly recommend this wallet. less bulky than a bifold but can carry just as much if you need to.

its on sale here

funny this topic came up, last night my wife was going through her stuff and she showed me her grandpas money clip.
thought it was funny that there was a time where lots of broke 20yo kids used money clips to show off their money even when they barely had any.
back before minimalist wallets were such a thing

I don't even carry a wallet or cash anymore most of the time. Credit cards are all on Google Pay, and the last step was Octopus moving to a phone app with full functionality. I can't remember the last time I used cash.

For longer days it's good to have some cash and backups cards though, so a card holder might be a good idea

Fuck wallets though

I carry an older version of this Danier cardholder style wallet. I try real hard to only carry 6-7 cards - doesn't always work out.

Found this company wandering Montreal. Made in Canada, and has held up fine. I put max 6 cards in but usually carry 4. I bought one for a friend and he's stretched it out with more than 10 and it still held up nicely. They had more color options in store.

I have cards on Apply Pay but license and compass card to track down dark aren't supported digitally.

I think you want the slimmest wallet possible. I have an Hermes card holder that a female friend gave me over 10yrs ago and it’s no bigger than a card/id. Fits 4 cards and a few bills

Whatever you do though, don’t get one of those card holder/money clip made out of hard materials. I have a fat ass and thigh, so I need something that contours to my thigh or ass when I sit down. Which is impossible if you’ve got a lil brick in your pocket.

It’s one of the few kick starter projects I backed that I regretted. I mean, it does everything it supposed to do, but it’s just not very comfortable when you got all relatively flexible materials encased in a hard shell.

i dont even bring my wallet anymore. just my phone. If i get into an accident, i have a photo of my DL on my phone.

Apple pay does more than enough for 90% of my spending needs. Bigger ticket items can be run through twice or thrice if needed.

Beats carrying an extra thing in your pants/jacket/man purse.

I slip one of the Tile trackers (cc sized) into the cardholder.

https://www.life360.com/en-ca/tile-trackers/product/black-slim

I've moved from using a traditional wallet to using a cardholder type like a metal one. This one's from Port Coquitlam, made by/via Ansix Auto.

They (Ansix) were based out of Port Coquitlam when I picked up their drill-less front license plate brackets in the past for the FK8 and VB WRX. Fantom is their wallet brand.

I have a Herschel zipper wallet that's big enough to hold my cards, coins, airtag and stamp cards.

Fantom wallets are made in Coquitlam and run by the same guy who runs Ansix Auto. Really nice slim wallet with card fanning to flex your Amex Black :lol

RFID blocking is the first thing I look for in a wallet. Google Pay has replaced my card 9 times out of 10.

Sometimes the gas pump doesn't play nice with Google Pay and I have to tap my actual card.

I went from:

https://www.takataracing.ca/images/thumbnails/280/280/detailed/5/Takata-x-Harveys-2.jpg

To a free slim wallet from Temu lol. Holds 6 cards with the pop up feature, bill fold and room for a few more cards inside.

At first, it was quite the adjustment with such a small wallet. Now, I kind of like it but also know this cheap thing wasn't built to last. Will likely upgrade to something like the Fantom in the future for a more durable product.

Do those RFID blocking ones have at least one slot that is unblocked?

Hehe
11-09-2025, 07:46 PM
You can DIY.

I mean, RFID-blocking is so cliche. Just wrap tinfoil around a card, slide the card into a slot, cut out the excess foil and voila, RFID blocking as long as that piece of foil stays inside the slot.

Yes, it's not perfect and fail proof. But I doubt any "RFID-blocking" claim card goes much further, it's usually some metal mesh wrapped inside. And for blocking some off-the-shelf RFID transmitter, it's plenty.

i don't give a crap about money clip / RFID. so when i see one i just pick one up from aliexpress / amz and use their cheapest version for $5 bucks.

Now the leather ones yes, you do get what you pay for. So go spend on real leather and it'll last forever.

My main gripe with those wallets is the lack of a coin pocket. Other than that, I like the design and convenience factors.

I don't know if there's any way to make a coin pocket look good and compact while still fit in a wallet form factor. Coin purses were a thing for a reason back in the 80s.

I still remember my dad having a wallet, a coin purse, and a key thing that I don't know the name for, but it's like a wallet but with little hooks inside for keys. I've whittled my keys down to just my car keys nowadays. At one point I had car keys, home keys, parents home keys, wife's parent's keys. That was too many sharp pointy things in one bundle.

The majority of Chinese places are cash only, so it's inevitable to use and have cash on hand, including coins.

I dunno how other people are able to have / carry so few cards. Being the cheapa$$ that I am, there is a loyalty card for pretty much every shop I visit, not to mention several different credit cards with different perks to buy different things. At the end of the day, I'm pretty sure I have well over 20 cards on hand. FailFish

Google wallet is a big help, but there are limitations as well. For whatever reason, certain scanners, esp the ones at supermarket self checkout kiosks, are horrible at reading bar codes off the phone's screen. Some wireless tap payments are either horribly bad at reading tap payments with the phone, or for whatever reason just outright refuses to take wireless tap payments from my phone -- I'm talking about you, stupid Chevron pumps! At the end of the day, I'm finding that while I use my phone (ie. Google Wallet) to make payments most of the time, I can't really do away with not carrying the good ol' physical card as a backup.

It's a PITA, but I still end up needing a wallet with lots of card slots. FailFish

All the time, at least every 3 days. I go to Crystal Mall for the majority of my groceries, which is cash only most places. I eat at the food court there which is mostly cash only, though there are more and more places that take card.

When I lost my wallet many years ago, and all those random membership cards too, I vowed never again to carry anything except the bare minimum.

I never have issues paying by phone or app, so I just leave the card at home and only grab it when I am going to that place. For example, an IKEA membership card. There's zero reason to carry that one around all the time. Those visits are planned well in advance.

That leaves me with:

DL
2 CCs
debit card
costco card (arguably, I could leave this at home too)
save on foods card (only because that's where we shop mostly, and the self checkouts don't take phone numbers)
compass

That's it.

As for my wallet, I have a Piquadro. Super thin, soft flexible leather. A bit too large dimension-wise, but I can live with it.
