It's coming up.

What are you guys planning on getting?

What's an alternate to vessi's you guys like? i don't use them for travel (vessi's suck for walking), just going out locally

Looking at Bellroy wallets thanks to the new thread

I love my Vessis for travelling lol. Depends which model you buy, especially if you're needing more heel support. I've managed to do Japan trips no problem with my Weekends. Looking to buy more since they have a pre-black Friday sale on right now.

Not sure what I'd bother buying this year for BF. Curious to see what others here have their eye on.

Most of my Vessi shoes ends up being in a warranty claim for either it leaking, or the sole separating from the shoe.

But in terms of their warranty claims, it has been pretty painless. My 5 pairs alone have been warranty claimed.

I am not looking at BF deals, but for once, I am actually looking at AliExpress for a cheap Android tablet during their Nov 11 (ie. 1111) sales.

Inventory searches / listing is absolute garbage though. I can't find the exact item that I found a day or two ago, and similar items -- basically identical specs items -- are sold by different sellers at different prices. Descriptions in titles / headings don't match the description in the photos, which also doesn't match the description in the specification section.

WTF man... :fulloffuck:

What's your price range? Generally RedFlagDeals recommend this Lenovo Android tablet:
https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005009494054601.html

You'll need to be comfortable flashing a global rom to get Google services back in.

BTW Rakuten is also showing 30% cash back for AliExpress.

What is cheap?

Walmart is doing $320 on a iPad 9th gen. Sure it's 2 generations behind but if you are going for cheap you are likely getting similar or worse performance.

It's $499 for a iPad "11 gen" (they don't call it that) from the Apple store if you want current.

Costco had a iPad 10th gen 256 for $499 for quite awhile, not sure if they are still doing that.

I find that Android tablets just aren't popular. If anyone is using a tablet it's typically going to be an iPad.

Oh when I say cheap, I really mean cheap -- like $150 - $200 cheap LOL~

The AliExpress options in that price range are claiming to have good specs. But looking even just slightly deeper into it suggests they aren't shipping out the product that was being advertised, with the unit you receive being a noticeably inferior item. So that just doesn't sound like a viable idea anymore.

Amazon's options just look like a guy buying a whole bunch of tablets off AliExpress, and is now reselling them while padding in some extra margin.

The next up option seems to go back to a legitimate brand name item -- Samsung Galaxy Tab A9+. But then we're looking at $200+tax...

Maybe the idea needs to be scrapped after all...

I have almost zero trust when it comes with smart devices or even electronics with Temu or Aliexpress unless you are prepared to throw that amount of money away in hopes for a gamble on something that's viable.

I was pleasantly surprised when I bought a mechanical keyboard a few years ago, but that was through much research and buying a known brand.

if anyone is looking for at iPads, if you want to use it as a 2nd monitor, you need to do gen 10 and up due to usb c. I have a 9th gen and the lightning cable cannot transfer data quick enough from what i can gather, it can only mirror the tablet.

I haven't relied on a carrier to "subsidize" a new phone for me in perhaps 10 years or so. I've always liked the convenience of just choosing a plan with a phone I already own without having to be tied to a contract.

The refurb iPhone 16 max was a good one through Fido if you were targeted to get that deal.

I haven't done the subsidized thing either for about that long too.... But my last 2 phones were preorder when they were first announced... And going into a contract with the provider to get the same phone wasn't an option. Every year or two, I'd also be changing phone plans too all within Fido because they offered better deals than my current plan during BF.

The TVs themselves are super light. I mounted my 75" on my own. The limitation of mounting a modern TV is your wingspan rather than the weight. My 75" TV is maybe 30lbs if that much. Now if you want to swing it around then you'd want two anchor points.

I haven't gotten a subsidized phone in a long time. But I also have odd tastes in phones as the phones I get are all not offered. My last 3 phones I bought were HTC10, Oneplus 6, Sony Xperia 1.

Maybe not everyone's experience, but last year I got a desk clock and a wall clock from Braun.

The wall clock has never worked, you put a battery in and set the time and it stops 10 minutes later... like gears stripped internally tried many different batteries. The desk clock is put together crooked.

Zero chance of warranty either, not worth shipping them both back.

I have 2 clocks and they both work and keep pretty good time (need to bump one up a minute every 6 months or so)

If you were here I'd try to fix it, or at least replace the clock unit itself. You can probably get the exact same one for like $5 on Taobao

For hockey skates if you’re not playing competitive hockey and just skating occasionally a mid tier skate will do just fine.

I’ve used CCM skates my whole life, they tend to fit wider than Bauer. But there’s new fits for each brand now. Just try on a bunch. There’s a sportchek friends and family event right now until the end of today (Weds).

-have not seen any Black Friday deals yet for Westjet or AC.

I found this deal on yvrdeals.com.

The flights are with Flair. -bit of a riskier airline though from what it is mentioned about Flair dropping routes without warning:

https://yvrdeals.com/vancouver-to-cancun-mexico-367-roundtrip

Flair Air is showing a few cheap nonstop flights from Vancouver to Cancun and Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.

Prices start at $267 roundtrip including taxes (base fare only). The more realistic price is $397 roundtrip with a piece of carry-on luggage.

UPDATE: Puerto Vallarta has a few December dates available for $269 to $399 roundtrip. Cancun has a few cheap ones in January.

Availability for travel
Late October, November, December 2025

January 2026

The yvrdeals link above has instructions on how to book flights with Flair to go to Cancun or Puerto Vallarta.

I mean air travel sucks so much nowadays anyways, you might as well just treat it as a public bus and power through it. Just get on the cheapest flight possible. Take some pills, knock yourself out, and in a few hours you’re in a new environment.

That’s what i would do if I wasn’t attached. But traveling with the midget requires certain accommodations.

Facts. Air Canada economy sucks so much balls that a budget airline in Asia (HK Express and JetStar) was significantly better smfh.

Air Canada's food also tastes literally 3d printed or what I would imagine printed food to taste like - like in those futuristic movies where you click a button and food comes out.

I fly AC for the Aeroplan and Star Alliance perks. Makes it pretty easy

AC for Asia, Lufthansa for Europe, United for USA.

Usually the prices are close to the discount lines so its not worth switching over. Plus majority of my travel is for work anyways, so i just bill them the most expensive fare for ha ha's

I think JetStar is Oceanic but yeah. Explain to me how a budget airline is somehow more comfortable than Air Canada which is supposed to be a Tier 1.

Jetstar is terrible. I don't know how you found it good but the seats were so fucking close together I couldn't even sit straight and I'm not even that big, are you like 5' tall?

So for anyone looking for phones/phone plans, the deals this year don't seem as good as the last few years as I was looking for a Pixel 10 Pro for my wife.

Rogers is doing $10/m lease on a $45/m plan, which in itself is not bad, but my currently plan is $32 so that means I need to tack on another $13 to my perceived cost, and the buyout is $360 at the end of term. Purely on the phone itself, it's a $600 for a $1100 dollar phone, which is actually decent.

Picked up some bumper plates off Amazon today, it's 27% off for the 160lb set and 20% off for the 230lb set which works out to just over $1/lb which is cheaper than even the sketchiest guys on FB are offering.

Was looking at picking up a squat rack/cable machine from Bells of Steel too and it's about 20% off but I'm still okay going to the gym once a week to fit in the stuff I can't do at home.

If anyone has a line on a 6' rackable barbell that I can get locally that'd be great otherwise I'm looking at $300-500 for one online.

What are you benching now Supa? I’m at that point where I’m stuck a bit trying to go up weight but less reps I think I’m sitting at just under 2 plates 3 sets 5 reps a set. At this point even adding a 2.5 on the ends drops me to 3 reps I just can’t quite get to 2 plates lol frustrating as fuck when you make such fast progress in the beginning and then it’s like inchworm crawling after that.

I found that there's a crazy ass Amazon hack for the Pixel 10 Pro over a RFD. The premise is that Amazon does a BF bundle deal on Pixel. You get $200 off if you buy it with a watch 3/4, $150 off if you buy with bud 2 pro, and $90 off if you buy with bud 2a.

The discount is then spread across both items, so for example the $200 off for watch 3/4 is spread across $150 on the phone and $50 on the watch. The discounts stack. So you buy 4 items then return the accesories you don't want. You keep the discount on the phone at the end as it's applied already.

I find people often love WestJet and only dislike them due to a mishap or a bad experience. Those who do love WestJet are deathly loyal to the brand and their product. I beg to differ, so I may be an outlier.

I accept the fact that competing carriers have an outstanding product (i.e. Singapore Airlines etc.) but overall, I quite like AC and the Star Alliance partners. They aren't perfect, but thinking of the entire package, they have served me well. Delta, KLM, and SkyTeam Alliance is alright, but their routes and schedules have never worked in my favour.

If you guys dislike AC, wait until you try an Indian carrier. (Not being racist, just for whitev70r.)

Wife's used Pixels since the P2, she got a P5, then a P7, now I just bought the P10Pro. She's not had much issues with it other than weak battery. The weak battery from the early days is a legacy of being an HTC(Google invested into HTC for manufacturing), IIRC it's still being made by HTC and the suppliers they use for the battery is not great.

Neither of us like Samsung, and while Apple makes a good phone, I'm not a fan of being locked into the ecosystem.

I'm personally looking at the Nothing Phone 3 ($200 off), but the reviews just aren't that great. But it fits my want of using a weird phone that no one uses.

I think your view of Westjet is stuck in pre-Covid mode. The old Westjet - where the employees had a stake in the company - was fun, was staffed by people who took genuine pride in the company, and was seen as the scrappy upstart who was fighting against the goliath of Air Canada. I liked flying with them.

Now that they've been bought out by Onex and is basically run like any other large money losing airline, there is little difference between them and Air Canada/United/AA etc. And since they have been in labour disputes with their staff for the past half decade or so, the staff have not been taking pride in the company that they are no longer able to own a part of.

I've been a long time Google phone fan, and in the last several iterations of the Pixel phones, it has been deemed that their A model line is the better phone over the flagphone Pixel phones. Of course, the A model line has fewer bells and whistles, and a number of them have been afflicted by some battery fire risk issues. But Google has just replaced the battery in my Pixel 6a for free, so I am probably going to squeeze another 3 years' worth of life out of it and I ain't gonna complain about that.

Way back when we had two Nexus 5 phones in the family, both phones have died over the course of their life. The first one had some sort of motherboard / video display issue where the phone still worked, but the screen only displays a few random scan lines on the screen. Google replaced it under warranty so there was no cost to us.

The other Nexus 5 died within a month or two after (the 2 years?) warranty expired, and Google still replaced it out of goodwill for us with a refurb unit.

I blame our Nexus 5 woes on LG for making a crappy phone instead of blaming Google for it.

Bench is my worst exercise - my trainer and I mostly ignored it till 6-7 weeks ago so I'm just cracking 2x35lb dumbbells now (10 reps) whereas I do 45lb lbs for my chest supported rows at 12 reps. I'm probably going to stick with dbs for a long while I think - I only use the barbell for squats and RDLs.

Gonna pull an ackshually here.

Not going to refute that the overall flying experience has gotten worse over time. Things like a decrease in legroom (seat pitch) or thinner and less padded seats do lead to decreased comfort.

Seat Width though, has stayed the same for probably over the decades and is the one thing that airlines actually cannot change, new seat or old seat, or the seat from when Westjet took their first light, that seat width is the same.

For example, the plane you were likely on, the Boeing 737 either the NextGen or Max series physically uses the same fuselage (the round tube) from its inception many decades ago. There is only so much space horizontally to fit your standard 3x3 seats + Aisle and airlines have long prescribed the maximum seat width they're legally allowed to have for seats as there are federal minimums for the aisle width. In fact, actual seat width has maybe actually crept up as airlines implement thinner armrests to increase seat width.

Long story short, seat width hasn't decreased for decades despite what we may perceive. This points to the alternative that average human widthes have changed...

Anyways, for those on Rogers Internet, they are offering the Streaming bundle for Netflix, Disney+ and AppleTV for 15 dollars. Pretty good, basically getting AppleTV for free after factoring in the regular prices.

True for narrowbodies but untrue for widebodies

747/777 are 18" pitches, but 787 and newer 777s are 16-17".

This isn't quite accurate - 777 was originally a 3-3-3 aircraft so it had 18" seats but as the aisles were pretty wide airlines decided to go to 3-4-3 so the seats went down to 17". With the new 777X that's coming out the seats are going back up to 18" as they've managed to find an extra 4" of cabin width due to panel sculpting. Airlines did the same thing with the 787 - originally it was a 18.5" wide seat in a 2-4-2 configuration and airlines went with a 17" width so they could go to a 3-3-3 configuration (only JAL sticks with a 2-4-2 but their seats are only 18" wide)

17" is largely the minimum seat width for all airplanes except for the A330Neo which flies with Cebu airlines - they converted from a 2-4-2 to a 3-3-3 for their short haul flights and the seat width is 16.5" - tiny malnourished SE asians fit ok.

Boeing's re-used their single aisle fuselage since the 707 so their single aisle seats are all 17" wide while Airbus was always at 18" as the default. You get some 18.5" seats (A220 - middle seat) but that's really rare.

do you try to avoid the seats where you serve as Emergency exit door opener? Usually, has a bit more leg room.

AstulzerRZD
11-25-2025, 07:29 AM
A220 16D/E give you enough space to stretch out your entire leg and usually free with status, emergency exit usually costs more.

Delta 757 days might be numbered, the new cabin gets complaints for having really thin seats.
Row 35 on the older 75 is another good one because it's the old crew rest area, extra half row of space and footrest on the seat for the economy price.

supafamous

If you're flying economy in an A350 the choicest seat is one row behind the 2nd last exit as the A and K seats (window) have no seat in front of them as the row in front has only 2 seats instead of 3 to facilitate exiting. Depending on how they number the rows it's around 50-60 - on Cathay Pacific it's row 60, on Fiji Airways it's row 52 etc.

For all I know Cathay received blank A350 from Airbus and got them outfitted in China. Not sure if it's the routes and passengers it flew or just the quality was junk, but I flew on one in 2018 when they were still relatively new and the interior was TRASHED. A bunch of the overhead bins were duct taped shut because they were broken. The washroom mirror was shattered and held together by box tape, cracks everywhere. I'm guessing it was all cosmetic but damn was it a shitty flight.

I miss the old 777-300 half business layout, CX-888 and CX-889 were golden standard flights. Fuck covid.

Yea, the early A350 interiors at CX definitely had advanced wear noted from many enthusiasts and reviewers, not sure the cause of that.
Pretty sure the newer deliveries have solved this issue.

Can't beat the old 747s in terms of aesthetics. The experience though on those old tubes is something else entirely. Curious if anyone else has felt the difference flying in the current gen planes where the humidity is kept way higher. Emergency exit seats dont recline is the tradeoff.
From a pax perspective the B787 is the best no? Composite fuselage lets it pressurize to 5500ft unlike 7000ft and the bleedless system lets it have more humidity in the air and less chance of fumes.

But airbus is better #shotsfired

Seat pitch and width? I thought RS ballers only sit in single numeral seats in front of the wing?

You have to fly the same airline, and the same location over and over to "know" what the best seats are.

Those "seat maps" are wrong 50% of the time, you think your picking a good seat, and then you end up near the shitter, no recline, behind the engine for extra white noise, etc. The "recline" of seats is near worthless.

Window seat + exit row = max leg room for that extra 10% "fee". Whats an extra 300$ on your yearly vacation. Thats like costco parking 100 times. (Troll)

I think it depends on what you're looking for - the A350 can match the 787 for air pressure and has wider seats in economy but the windows are smaller than the 787. I thought my trip to Sydney on the A350 was superb even for economy. The 777X matches on air pressure, has 18" seats and the biggest windows ever so I imagine it'll become the new widebody king when it finally launches.

The A220 also matches the 787 for air pressure - for single aisles I think it's the king with the Embraer E195-E2 being second place.

Oh then my dad definitely would have met your dad at the banquet cause he went last year. He asked me to go I'm like why I got two little kids at home and I don't know any of the people there.

My dad worked for HAECO as well, there might be some crossover but I think your dad is probably a bit older than my dad. My dad would have just started working when your dad immigrated. My dad toiled there for a long time and his big break didn't come until he moved to UA. UA had a base in HK for the longest time.

I remember the first time I flew 787 I didn't like it. I'm used to the low pitch rumbling of the older jets, my 787 AC flight from Shanghai had this higher pinch whine that I found uncomfortable and I kept my headphones on for the whole flight.

I haven't flown a 777 in a long time, I think last I flew one was CX888/889 in 2016. It's been a steady diet of mainly 787 since we started flying long haul again after covid.

Oh yea 100% upper deck 747 was the shit for 14 dolla ballas back in the day. Eva Air had the same set-up too.

I think JL is still king when it comes to economy, biggest economy seats if you get any version of their Sky Wider product.

(Troll)

I've learnt to always double-check the airline seatmaps with Aerolopa, they've been way way more accurate than the competition.

at least airplane foamers are better than these train foamers. Train foamers are the weirdest.

They come out of the bush with their big ass cameras and when i ride past them, i blast the shit out of them and give them the finger. One of them yelled out to me, HEY IS THAT A GE - Dash 8 ENGINE with articulating high beam!?

uhhh you know it is......! why else would you yell out something that specific you fucking weirdo!?

yeah.... thats a good engine. carry on sir.

Cmon, don't tell me you don't enjoy giving them a blast of the horn and see them cream their pants a little.

Wow, small world. Yeah my dad is 78 now and I'm not sure if he's been going to the Haeco banquets lately but he used to talk about it a lot and I think I did go along a few times when I was a kid. The men of that era, the way they talked and laughed definitely matched what I used to see in HK movies.

So I bought a new S10+ tablet to use in my kitchen. I've been watching them for a while, most were going for $950-$1000 new. I saw one pop up for $900 and pulled the trigger.

It arrives, I power it on, go through the setup and it asks me to select my region, my choices were:

Panama
Colombia
Chile
Argentina
Peru
Bolivia
Equador
Brazil

LOL. Now I know why it was $50 cheaper than everything else.

Doesn't seem to affect operation much, other than initially installing spanish as a second system language, and having the weather app location default to some city there, which quickly changed once it found my actual location.

And wanted something with good screen brightness, when watching at my patio table in the summer.

But yeah I don't think I'm ever going to use the keyboard or the S Pen. I just left those in the box.

I'm a psuedo AV geek here. But don't fly nearly as often as I used to.

Best economy flight I ever had tbh was Westjet's old ex-Quantas 767 from YVR to LGW. 2 seats in a row, decent legroom. Good service. Only thing that would have made it perfect was LHR instead of LGW.

The other one that comes to mind was Oasis 747-400 YVR-HKG. The plane was half empty, had an entire 4 seats to myself. At the time I was too young to appreciate it for what it was. Today, that's like winning the lotto.

No money for black friday shopping this year.

I've been wanting to replace my dSLRs for quite some time now, and the timing was almost right when both my 24-105 and 70-200 broke down one after another. But the camera bodies themselves are built like old Toyota Corollas that just refuse to die. And bcos they are so old -- 2012 to 2017 models -- they are basically worthless in the used market.

Never mind the fact that if I were to do a like-for-like replacement of my old equipment with something new, it is gonna turn into a $10k or $12k affair... FailFish

So the situation is exactly like how things are for me with cars -- I'm stuck with my old pieces of junk bcos I can't afford any of the new stuff...

Yeah two kids. Our Coleman Flat Iron ripped this summer after our final trip. I loved that tent cause it took 2 minutes from bag to full up. Another 5 minutes to stake it.

Been shopping for a new tent for awhile this is perfect as it reviews very well, it came down to Big Agnes Big House 6, NorthFace Wawona 6, and the Marmot Halo.

Wife wanted a vestibule for our new tent, we call it a patio. Was originally going to get the Big Agnes as thelasthunt has it 25% off + 15% off on top. Then I found the NorthFace for a little more and it comes with a HUGE vestibule, downside is it's reviewed to be challenging to setup. Then we found the Marmot, which checks our boxes.

Might be worth looking at micro four thirds cameras if you want to get back in without paying a fortune. Used Olympus and Panasonic cameras and lenses are very affordable compared to full frame and can get you back into shooting without breaking the bank.

Bear in mind that $29 one is their regular 2 Ah version though. I have one just like that and it gets used on a regular basis. But after 3 yrs, I'd have to say its capacity has gone way down. It is still useful in my low draw tools -- eg. drivers and drills. But in my high draw tools -- leaf blower and pressure washer, the endurance is low enough that it isn't really useful anymore.

Their high performance version at 4 & 6 Ah seem to be better buys if you need something with more endurance. The 6 Ah Hi-Perf version, in particular, it $98 right now, which seems to be a fairly good price. The Hi-Perf version also seems to run cooler than the regular version.

They have a newer and even higher performing version called High Performance Edge, and supposedly it provides even more power than their high performance 8 Ah battery. But it is too pricey for me (@$148 right now).

that leaf blower is OOS, tbh even at $150. At that price I wonder if getting a cheapo amazon one for under $100 is more worth it.

i also got the ladder for gutters but realize that realistically i can only access my lower gutters and it's not worth risking my life trying to access the upper floor gutters and rather just hire a cleaner at that point.

if you want to blow gutters out, especially if the leaves are somewhat damp, consider getting something stronger than 18/20v. my dad has a greenworks 80v one from costco and it's a lot more powerful than my 20v dewalt, although mine is still pretty good.

i cant really blow fresh snow off my driveway with mine but he can with his.

How large of an area do you need the blower for, and what sort of leaves are you trying to blow? Also, how are you managing your leaves right now? I'm trying to gauge whether the cheaper Amazon / 18V blower is enough or whether you should go into a 40v version.

I have a Ryobi 40V blower for the yard, and a compact 18V compact blower that is great for quick clean-ups and blowing out the gutters on a ladder.

RE: ladders, I find the collapsible ones a bit too flimsy for my liking and use the heavy AF telescoping ladder when it's extended and I'm high up. The flexing / wobbling with the collapsible ladder is kinda scary when I'm on the upper steps :lol
wife got me a blower for bday and i told her no. I got this instead.

saw my neighbour doing the lawn in 1/2 the time cause I guess it's twice as big. Never looked back since.

I just don't want to charge another battery powered thing... i do like taking up my headphones and then raking leaves. at the end, you'll still need the rakes to put into the bins.. so F it.

Rakes work better than blowers in some cases, and blowers work better than rakes in other cases. It really works best when you have both.

I am also slowly coming to terms with how my Ryobi 18V blower isn't quite strong enough for all the blowing I need it to do. But I really don't want to get into an additional (40V) battery system though...

JUST USE A LAWN MOWER :troll:

Yeah, I use the blower for the hard surfaces: driveway, deck, gravel behind the garage, but I find the rake more effective for the lawn (other than running them over with the lawnmower, but I only do that when they're dry)

Add low slope roof to that list. A WTF moment I had up there last summer was a full pork rib bone. Must've been the crows.

leaf blower is great on the roof

i like my milwaukee and the forge 8ah battery makes a big difference vs the regular 5ah

One part of my yard is largely a bark mulch surface, with another part largely gravel. Those areas get a ton of leaves falling, and actually having a less powerful 18v blower is better for me. It blows the leaves off but not all the bark mulch and/or gravel beneath them.

For the lawn, I gave up raking and just use the mower. I set the height to the max (because I don't actually want to cut the grass necessarily) and the mower sucks all the leaves into the bag. It's perfect.
