Hi RS Admin,

I've been made aware that a number of regular RS posters have been locked out of their RS accounts after resetting their passwords. They haven't received their verification emails. I'm lucky that I received mine.

Hopefully you folks can help or look into this. Thanks!

I had the same issue, skinny had to reset my shit last month
Maybe add a "contact this email if password is not working" on that page or something

RS gonna die off if they cant log in, and have no one to what bcr just did

I think we just lost over half of our active posters.

Why are people forgetting their passwords? I can look into getting the email working again

It's not that people are forgetting their passwords, but it's because they are proactively updating them because of this:

passwords are hashed, changing that won't change whatever anyone has

But if you use the same login elsewhere, and that's leaked in text form, then that is usually how accounts get stolen

But I can see about re-enabling email if people are going to start using the registration system again

OK here goes nothing with the password reset. If I get lockedout, I'll be DM-ing Skinny.

Emails won't go out, don't bother. DM me if you need to do something with your password. You should be able to change it yourself without resetting, but if you need to receive email, it won't come.

Hmm... password changed without a hitch!

I'll take that as a win.

I am curious but what has happened to the emails?

Emails have been completely disabled for years. Since registration was turned off, I didn't see the need. But I forgot that people might still need it to do password resets. Nobody brought it up until now!

Is registration turned off to prevent spammers?

Yes it would be too much work to moderate

I'm back in! Thanks dukes and SkinnyPupp for fixing my account.

I changed both my password and email after seeing stewie's post. I updated my password first and that went fine for me - I was still able to use the forum with my new password.

But changing my email locked me out because I had to confirm the change through a link sent to my new email which never came, and now I know it's because email functionality has been turned off.

Awww yeah! Thanks for everyone for their support in getting the community back.

I suspect there may be more out there who don't have a voice, so we have to be proactive in a way to get them back in. :)

Separately, I wished the "Thank" button would be enabled in this specific forum as opposed to the Fail button! :D
