Kind of urgent request so i'm starting a new thread lol
My kid's 4 year old birthday party is saturday. I'm in charge of the goody bags.
Most of the goody bags my kid brings home are full of dollar store junk. I'm trying not to do that.
Anyone got any ideas based on your own experience?

-suggest buying small trinkets which encourage creativity and interaction among kids.
-went to a nephew's birthday party in the past when he was 5 years old. I saw these goodies in bags.
A "No Junk" list:
Functional gifts: Hair clips for the girls. Sunglasses. Small paper notebooks/notepads.
Small toys: Hot Wheels cars for boys? Dollarama sells plenty of Hot Wheels cars.
Art and creativity: Stickers. Crayons. Small colouring books.
I have seen Dollarama sell non-toxic versions of crayons.
-gotta make sure the kids are safe in case a kid puts crayons in his/her mouth. LUL
As for the gift bags, you can use sustainable material like fabric pouches or paper bags.

+1 for hot wheels, and I've seen small Lego bag sets at Dollarama as well. Or, you can try Miniso for tchotchkes and Muji for stationery?

I usually see a pack of snack size cookies or pretzels and a candy of some kind in the goody bag then some kind of crafty item - lego is good as are hot wheels. Playdoh is also good.

go to costco and just stuff it with box drinks, and snacks.... with all the left overs, you also then get to feed your own child. Nowadays people were all worried but we used to sip lock bag costco muffins. Heck,... throw in cup noodles LOL..

Oh man this is great, I can use all of this.
My kid's birthday is coming up end of month and I loathe the standard goody bag loadouts.
donk.

We gave out gift cards for ice cream with the hope that getting ice cream together is a pleasant experience for both parent and child.

What's the budget per child?

Fruit pouches, welches gummy packets, chocolate chip cookies, Koala cookies. All very highly appreciated by the kids.
The dollarama junk.... ehhh............ Some of them are ok. Kids like pencils and erasers, but the erasers are usually garbage, they just look cool. The plastic slinkies are surprisingly popular. The other stuff yeah don't bother.

I was thinking hot wheels too.
OK I think I like
Hot wheels
Fruit snack/pouch/something from costco
Lego pouch (great idea)
Or maybe a notebook for drawing and stuff, with a pack of crayons
On my way to dollarama shortly.

Crayons is a Superstore/Walmart item. Dollarama a lot times aren't the cheapest for this kind of stuff. Crayola box crayons for for $1 quite often at Superstore and Walmart and we typically stock up when we see it.

We tend to do food/snacks these days, at least it might get eaten instead of just adding to the random temu junk/toys that get thrown out within 2 hours of getting home.

I have nothing to add to the topic at hand, but for the parents' goody bags you should include a couple of condoms and a handful of xanax.
Whistles and harmonicas for the kids of parents you don't like lol

Lemme guess.. first kid?
I used to go above and beyond for my first born, even my second one to a degree. With my third born, those snot nosed punk friends of his get dollar store shit every time lol. The kids don’t give much of a shit about the goody bags. Use the savings for a better overall experience at the party.

Consumable stuff is good, so anything edible or things like pencils/stickers/crayons/etc.

Some parents HATE it when their kids get junk food. I will jsut tell them to go kick rocks. Shut up... go and enjoy and be a kid.
Nowadays 90% of kit kats / mars bars etc are ALL peanut free so the cheapest way is just to throw in granola bars.
For the snobs of parents who also go to the same costco as you, just go to winners and marshalls and get their toys for cheap too.

Thanks everyone, mission accomplished.
Each kid will receive:
- A lego bag set. Go karts or flower stand. $5.
- Make Good bar. $0.50
- The bag itself. $0.75
Total cost per gift bag: $6.25
I'm happy with that result.

How about a scrap of paper inside with the note "I donated to Revscene on your behalf."

It’s the only forum that limits donations.
