Formatting Computer
Recently caught some sort of Google Redirect virus and, after looking for solutions, I found that there are tons of work involved. I'd rather just format. I have C: (where everything is) and H: (250GB of free space that I've used up, saved movies/etc). Will reformatting affect the H: too? Or is there a way to format JUST the C:?
Thanks in advance :) |
format c:
Got it? |
I don't know if you read the whole thing but that's what I want to do. Problem is, I don't know where that option is.
|
if C: is where your operating system is, then you will have to boot from the Windows disc and reformat and reinstall from there. It's a pretty simple process but if you get confused just google "reinstall windows" or something and I'm sure you'll find tons of guides. And no, it will not reformat your H drive.

you can try 'windows restore' from your start -> accessories -> system tools and perform a restore prior of you catching this virus before u re-format everything
|
The best way is to get an external hard drive slam everything you need on it and reformat that way. You can not format a drive that windows in install on.
|
^ yes you can. Jut not with windows running. Look up GPartEd, its a partition editing that you burn to a disc and then run off of, allowed you to reformat. I use it for all my drive-based shenanigans, very helpful.

When you reinstall windows it will ask you what drive you want to install and any you will have a option of formatting that drive.
|
Sounds good, thanks Manic!. That's what I was pretty much looking for - if there's an option BEFORE I start formatting stuff.
