I had an opportunity to meet Vancouver born photojournalist Ed Ou yesterday, and thought immediately of the Bang Bang Club. This guy is amazing - he was one of the first photojournalists to get inside Egypt for the big protests, and was the first photojournalist in Libya for the anti-Khadafi protests. He talked about escaping from Somalia to Yemen in the boat of human traffickers, getting caught by the Yemeni coast guard and spending 5 days in prison before the New York Times could get him out via diplomatic channels. He throws himself into areas of active armed conflict and comes back with amazing images - he has huge brass balls hanging from between his legs. I'm sure he can become a member of Magnum in the future.
Check out his portfolios: http://www.adventureswithlight.net/ http://www.reportagebygettyimages.com/ed-ou/#portfolio He just had the cover again yesterday: http://www.nytimes.com/2011/05/28/wo...ed%20ou&st=cse |
Well....since it's no longer out and I doubt any of us caught it.
