Video Card Question
I have GTX 460 Cyclone Edition 1GB.
I just started running dual monitor's. I noticed the temp on my my graphics card has went up to 50 degrees. When I was on a single monitor it was at 30 degrees or less. Is their something that I need to upgrade here? Possibly my power supply? Thanks in advance for help. |
is your goal to lower the operating temperature of the video card?
if you're running two monitors, naturally it will take a larger toll on your video card hence the higher operating temperature. get a video card cooler or more fans for your case. |
Wow your video card temp is actually really good. Shouldn't worry too much.
|
^ Really? Seems high to me.
When I'm playing SC2 for example I play at high settings. Temps go up to 60 at least. |

I run one monitor at 1900x1200 and temps get into the low 60's under load. Apparently GPU's can handle higher temps than CPU's. |
GPU temps are higher than CPU temps. If its too high for you, make sure your case is ventilating the exhaust properly.

My super cramped case makes my video card sit at 50. It's fine really.
|
im running dual mons as well, im sitting at about 53 right now
one screen for gaming/revscene, other for video |
wow, 20C jump just for plugging in another monitor? That is a bit much.
Sure the GPU is operating within it's safe range, but an extra monitor should not even affect the temperature at all, let alone 20 degrees. |
kind of off topic but dont want to make another thread
my video card ( gtx 560 msi hawk) when I idle it is DEAD silent, I can hear NOTHING. But when i play games it kicks in to VTAC or someshit and sounds like a vacuum anyway to silence it without sacrificing performance? |
^^ happens to me too.
silence probably 10mins after gaming. |
Adjust fan speed with MSI Afterburner?
Whats the airflow situation to the card like? |

there is a huge whole on the side of my case so airflow should not be a problem
|
Highest Temp for my GPU is 60c and idles at 15c
Im running a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460M on my lappy At these temps it doesnt make a sound, quiet as fuck. |

15C? :crazy2::crazy2::crazy2: |
Its cold as hell in my room thats probably why ;P
|
15c inside a laptop? That's not possible. Even the laptop idling the internal temperatures are higher than 15c for sure due to all the other internal components.
|
My 4870's in my Alienware in crossfire idle at minimum 30-35 degrees. Unless your not running your dedicated graphic, and lets say using the integrated one.
|
Opps was reading the wrong thing, meant to say one of my CPUS.
