2000 toyota corolla using a lot of gas?
 

Been noticing my corolla has been using a lot of gas recently... the fact it being a corolla shouldnt run as high as it should..

Last last fill up
filled up 26L @ a distance travel led of 180KM

Todays fill up
20L at a distance traveled of 157KM

Slight change but still more then what i believe it should be using.... friend believes it the o2 sensor failing, anyone else support this? or have other thoughts?

maybe a wacky fuel gauge?

check for fuel leaks also...

maybe its time for a tune up.
-check/replace spark plugs, igintion wires, distributor cap, distributor coil, fuel filter, air filter, o2 sensor, etc..

do you have a check engine light on? check your wheels for seized brakes.

fuel filter is apparently insidet he gas tank.. cant do it myself lol

Do you drive mostly short trips (<10km?)

I had a similar issue where I was getting unreasonable low fuel economy in my civic, turns out the odometer would intermitantly stop working.

I'd start with the basic stuff first, the ones you can do at home, like the air filter and spark plugs. Plus, they're not too expensive so it'll be a good place to start.

Sparkplugs were done about 10k km ago, its probably about time now, distributor cap, coils, ignition aren't removable last time i remember. fuel filter is located inside gas tank lol, brake seize idk lol o2 sensor idk no lights

well, all shorts trips = engine cold = ecu in open loop = use more fuel.
I once lived like a 5min drive to work and school. In the winter, the car's engine would never warm up by the time I got to my destination and I was getting really shitty mileage.

Change the 02 sensor, as it's never been done. While your at it, might as well check spark plugs and inspect the filter.

Check the tire pressure too

Also, expect fuel mileage during the winter months to drop. Colder temperature means it takes longer for an engine to exit open loop. Combine that with short trips and you've got a perfect combination for shitty MPG.

when was the last time ur thermostat was replaced? like they said above about cold engine = shite mileage, a faulty thermostat may be a part of the problem.

can someone chime in on 'winter fuel' as a possible culprit?

tire pressure is at 35psi per. checking air today. sparks were done not too long ago.. o2 is a a possible change. thermo idk..

You do get lower mileage with winter fuel, around 30km less per tank for me, but not as bad as that, that's on par with a midsize SUV in a Corolla.

How about your coolant temp sensor. Does the car read temperatures correctly.

checked filter today, filter still pretty clean, brakes arent seized, obd2 bluetooth thing normally says im running around 82 Celsius if i remember right

maybe someone is syphoning your gas at night

lol my friend said that too, but i dont think so... too small of amounts to be worth caught doing...

try seaforming your car, to clean up your valves or add gas additives

I take short trips as well, V6 engine with a slippin transmission from 1-2 gear and I get slightly the same as you.

so.. been a while since ive posted.. anyone else got any ideas why a corolla is using a lot of gas.. replaced the o2 sensor.. air filter. changed plugs. tire pressures are up to 35. oil changed, tranny oil & filter changed, (cant do fuel filter cause in gas tank :'() seafoamed the car with no luck (funny to cops were maybe 50 meters away wondering why is there smoke and revving coming from a parking lot lolol) distributor wires cant be changed susp:

Bring it to a shop? preferably one of the sponsors? Have you got the car scanned? what is your aircare results etc?
