scanning photos

Recently my parents went through some old boxes and found a ton of photos, slides and negatives.
so i want to scan these photos into digital.

Anyone have a recommendation for scanners to do this?

I was looking at the epson v600 and the canon 9000f

Maybe check if someone locally has a high-end scanner and do it for a small fee rather than buying a cheap one yourself?

When my dad was trying to convert his 300+ rolls of negative to digital, I asked around, found a guy with a Nikon 9000ED and he charged $150 for the trouble. All I needed to supply was the films and a HDD to store all the files. The results were stunning... day/night difference between crappy scans and good ones.

He'd get a much better scans and it made no sense to get a scanner himself as he has converted fully to digital and it's unlikely he'd ever get more film again.
