Performance wise, stock for stock the EVO X outperforms the STI, but it's pretty close, so it's pretty much down to personal preferences. From my personal experience, here's how I see the two cars:
Things I like about the EVO:
-It's hot damn! (Looks better than the STI IMO)
-Stock for stock it feels more firm.
-Seats are more akin to aftermarket bucket seats. The stock STI seats feel softer and less hard-core.
-Red brake calipers with Brembo lettering.
-Middle interior air vents position (I find the STI's to be too low for my liking)
-More storage room below climate control bezels, behind center cup holders, and etc.
-Stock wheels (either the 12-spoke enkei or the BBS) looks good. I'm not a fan of the STI's 5-spoke wheels and the 18-spoke BBS must be a bitch to clean)
-Dash design looks better and is more aggressive (needles start @ 6 o'clock position and the cover on top protrudes out more).
Things I like about the STI:
-Boxer engine rumble makes me jizz in my pants.
-6MT available
-Seats recline by pulling a lever instead of rotating a knob, which takes forever.
-"STI" badges everywhere (You don't get the "evolution" badge everywhere in the evo)
-Rear seats fold down and storage space in the hatch is far superior than the evo's tiny trunk.
-Needle sweep on start-up.
-Quad-tip exhaust vs the EVO's dual tip.
-Has a lock for the glove compartment.
-The "beep" when locking the car sounds better than the evo's "honk".
-Foot rest is metallic (matches the pedals unlike the EVO)
-Stock shift knob doesn't look cheap at all.
-Base model has projector housing VS the reflector housing for the base EVO.
-LED tail lights (Only the center brake light on the trunk is in LEDs)
-Sunroof! (For the Canadian market, sunroof is available only on the MR for the evo, which is the SST version). No sunroof for evo GSRs (not sure for 2010 models though).
Those are mere subtle points that may seem too little to make a difference, but in the whole package, it just might affect one's choice. It was a tough choice for me a year ago, but what made me pull the trigger is 0% financing from Mitsubishi!
