Are you wanting to get an alarm just for insurance reasons or for security? Is your home already pre-wired or does it need to be wired? There's a big price difference if the wires aren't in.

I went with CBA Electrical & Security Systems Ltd. as I only needed a basic alarm and motion sensor for my pre-wired apartment. Mainly for insurance purposes. Omni Security wanted $750 for the same job, I think I paid roughly half that or so. I had no complaints. Recommended to my buddy a few days later and he had no complaints either.
I just Googled it and CBA came up as one of the top seven biggest alarm companies in Vancouver for the past five years, so i went with them.

Were they offering the same equipment though? Did they pull the necessary permits?

ADT is notorious for being a 1-1-1 company. They give you 1 keypad, 1 contact, 1 motion, often at or below cost and call it a day. ADT makes their money is in monitoring revenue so as long as they have you tied up to a contract they could care less about you.

I wouldn't trust monitoring that wasn't local. Some local companies were offering $9.95/month monitoring a few years back... turns out the calls were being dispatched to a company who hires inmates in a Southern USA prison. True story. Another company had the alarm systems dispatch to his pager and he would call the property references and police himself...
