At the end of the day, do what's best for you... I am no police officer but personally I try not to associate with people who do "shady" things just because I'm a judgmental prick like that (srs).
That being said, I am sure your friendship is important, but what YOU want should be more important. This is your dream job and you can easily clear $100k/year with a moderate amount of overtime; pull a little more than that, and you'll be earning enough to buy a house in the GVRD and raise a family all by yourself. With a spouse who makes anywhere near that, you are living quite well.
Maybe I'm more "detached" but I think being able to have that kind of future surpasses any friendship... have you tried talking to your friend about their illegal activity? Who knows, maybe they'll hear you out and cut that crap out of their life.
