always fun when you try to implement passive design strategies on builds but the developer is not interested, heating is not an issue (for their profit margins).
but yes, if you can't do shades that come down due to cost (electrically powered), louvered awning style would help.
we went low tech and got a kiddy pool with a patio shade & canopy in the back yard to cool off.
