So while I dropped off the Stang for warranty work, I went over to Toyota / Honda to check out some of their vehicles.

Looked at the Camry, and it's a nice car, but the rear headroom is a bit tight. I'm 5'9 and my hair is just brushing against the ceiling.

The Rav4 was surprisingly roomy for what it is. Really liking it.

Test drove the new Honda Insight. For what it is, it's actually pretty nice, just lacking in the drivetrain. It's got a E-CVT, and when you try to ring out the engine, it makes this weird humming engine noise (not pleasant).

With a full load of passengers, you'll need to time your merging and passing for sure.

Also test drove the Honda Accord 1.5 model (no hybrid avail), and I'm really digging it. The rear seats have CRAZY amount of legroom and headroom, and that's with my driving position already in set.

The 1.5 turbo engine is also quite peppy, for 192 hp and torque.

I actually really like the new Insight, based on the Civic it has a more grown up look to it which I'm a fan off. I won't get to drive them till the end of the year so I'll have to see how it feels but the Accord I agree. The 1.5 is all you really need in a car, the 2.0 isn't MUCH more but gives you a real nice kick which is always welcomed.

It's just not everyone likes the styling on them.... personally I don't find it that bad.

that 2.0T accord is surprisingly quick.... so much so you may not even miss the Mustang.

So with the ever increasing gas prices, I'm almost about to pull the trigger on a hybrid vehicle.

I just test drove the 2020 Toyota Corolla Hybrid, and it's a decent drive. The engine uses the same engine as the current Prius, and starts at $24k with the option of adding leather and a few other features for $2k

The Stang will be traded, pending what numbers I get for it.

I'll probably regret it, but I'll gladly sacrifice performance / handling for fuel efficiency and practicality ( although I already have a Toyota Sienna, but that thing's worse on gas than the stang

)

What kind of mileage do you think these cars yield on a full tank of gas ?
Does anyone drive a Prius and can chime in?

It'll be mostly 90% city driving, and I'm hoping for 800km or more. (and I understand it depends on my driving style, but lets just say, regular driving (no lead foot)

have you considered a prius prime, there are a lot of incentives right now for it.

I did, but I needed at least 5 seats. The current gen is a 4 seater, but was told the next gen would be 5 seats.

Something to consider. It would be $10,000 incentives after taxes.

They've rated the Corolla Hybrid at 4.4L/100km, and I'm not surprised about the handling given that it's the same platform as the Corolla Hatchback. I've heard of people pushing 1000km highway in the new Camry Hybrid, so 800 city in the smaller Corolla does seem a bit realistic.

Correction, it's not $10,000 incentives, it's less because Prius prime is PHEV, not fully electric.

The same gen car, but 2020 model year, will be receiving a proper 3 passenger rear seat, thus making the car a proper 5 seater. I have no idea why Toyota ever thought the 4-seater arrangement would have been good for the Prius Prime. It should never have been done. Should have been a 5 seater like the non-plug-in hybrids.

The federal + provincial incentives are only $2.5k + $2.5k on most plug-in hybrids, and that's how the Prius Prime is. I was considering to trade the gas guzzler in for a Prius Prime, but the practically non-existent trunk became the show stopper. I need it deeper than 8" or whatever ridiculous depth it was. (Gosh that sounds so wrong when you take it out of context...)

I always think:

1. How much gas per year for my present car? How much gas per year for new/hybrid/electric/diesel or whatever car?
2. How much initial cost to change cars?
3. How many years will it take for me to break even or actually save money?

Let's say the difference in gas is $2000 per year and it cost me $20K to change cars. So it will take me 10 years to break even to change cars. Hmmmmm ... is it worth it? Almost always, the answer is to keep your present car.

Oh and don't forget to factor in the cost of putting a 240V charger in your garage.

the price disparity for the rolla hybrid will take about 4 years to make back. However, if your goal is to keep it after 4 years, then you will start saving money.

I see and hear so many of these conversations nowadays and it always leaves me feeling like the only “problem” everyone is solving is their own boredom... you want to save money? Buy a used car. Simple. There are so many options out there, buying a new car to save gas money is logically the most unsound thing anyone could possibly do.

Just say it like it actually is — you like nice new things and are willing to pay extra for them except when it comes to gas money for some strange reason. You’re not trying to save money at all when you come to the conclusion that what you need to do is buy a brand new car.

Everyday i see EV/PHEV doing laps around my work trying to charge their vehicle lol

I even watched some guy pull the charger from one vehicle and put in theirs LOL

Latest contract has certain standards for the vehicle you drive. I bought the cheapest thing I could find, that's reasonably reliable and fit the company's requirements. No $500/mo lease payments for me, thanks.

This is so true. My office complex has 2 chargers between 5+ EVs and there are always ppl bitching and complaining about others using the chargers for the entire day. Almost everytime im at a mall or any other public location all of the chargers are taken. Charging infrastructure is already behind demand and its only going to get worse. Only a matter of time before charging stations are metered or rates are increased.

Just as there is golf etiquette, there is EV charging etiquette. Two of the most important ones are:

1) Leave when you're done charging
2) Don't always aim for 100% charge

In fact with rule #2, some claim people should really unplug at 80% unless there is another charger available.

But how many EV owners actually know and follow these rules? I bet less than 50% of them do. Or maybe to know, but they don't give a shxt.

Well, I finally did it.

I pulled the trigger, traded in the mustang, and picked up a 2020 Toyota Corolla hybrid.

Couldn't be happier, especially with the fuel mileage. Picked up the vehicle yesterday with full tank of gas, and the distance to empty gauge literally read 1100 km.

why they gotta keep hybrid/PHEV to the dullest-looking model? it's not 2002 anymore

rav4 is a decent start but why not bring it to the corolla hatch, tacoma etc.

and i know they build 'em just fine...LC500h

The styling is very meh. Well the Prius is a hit or miss, the front I like, the rear end is another story.

If Honda could build Toyota's exterior, and Mazda could build the interior, then we're talking.

Isn't the Yaris basically a Mazda 2 now, so its kinda sorta a Mazda now.
