TAIWANESE BEEF NOODLE SOUP

does any remember RICO's on ALEXANDRA RD. in Richmond?

they're closed now, but i've been wanting to eat beef noodle with their perfect kind of spicy soup

does anyone know a place that even compares?!?!

achiam 07-22-2009 06:54 PM

A guy I played basketball with wayyyy back in the day opened it!

boss_clad 07-22-2009 07:13 PM

skyxx 07-22-2009 07:29 PM

Culture_Vulture 07-22-2009 08:29 PM

personally I think Lao Shan Dong (老山東) on Kingsway has some of the best TW style beef noodle soup I've tried in Vancouver

boss_clad 07-22-2009 08:44 PM

btw, do they have steamed bean sprouts in the soup?

blue_noise 07-22-2009 08:57 PM

way too overpriced!

almost $10 for a bowl?! ridiculous.. but i will admit its not bad

miss_crayon 07-23-2009 01:52 AM

ding hao sucks balls imo. super overpriced for the amount of food you get.

tbh, i dont think there will ever be a place as good as rico's. i love lao shan dong..but it's just not the same!

Probably! His name was Eric and he drove a purplish Eagle Talon back in those days, around 1997?

gnu5 07-24-2009 07:52 PM

honestly, from all the beef noodle soup that i have tried, my favourite is the one from bubbleworld on kingsway, you might not think they would have good noodle soup, but honestly....it is the best shit ever. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!

They do have good noodles, but the beef sucks! Also, the soup could use some improvement.

wingies 07-25-2009 02:20 AM

wangs beef noodle house on granville and 70th or sth!

boss_clad 07-29-2009 12:32 AM

yea, i went to lao shan dong, good call you guys. thanks.

the soup was very flavorful, and the noodles were oh-so-chewy and fresh.
not as good as rico's, but they take the crown for now..

if anyone's gonna try it, its on nelson st, not kingsway hidden away a little bit.

goo3 07-29-2009 12:58 AM

^ were you looking for thicker soup with like tomato in it? i've never been to ricos so..

essentially, traditional beef noodle soup has just a few components...
-the cut of beef you prefer (duh)
-hot broadbean sauce
http://imgg2.store.pchome.com.tw/~pr...c&P=1243997843
^this stuff
-soysauce & water
-cooking rice wine
-anise

I've also heard of people adding rock sugar, but our family has never done that before

they both blows ball dude

soup taste like soy sauce, meat is so fucking dry

pearl house beside pearl hot pot has one of the better tw beef noodle soup in town

there was another one in granville, dont know if they are still open tho. 24hrs or some shit

Expresso 07-29-2009 08:04 AM

^^^ ahah I agree. I don't personally like Lao Shan Dong either. The meat they use is not your typical ones used, so damn lean. The soup base is pretty good though.

I prefer the one at Trity, they put tomatos in it too. Closest to the ones I've tried in TW.

Grandmaster TSE 07-29-2009 11:46 AM

you can try the place behind lansdowne mall in that little plaza, i don't remember the name of the place in english, i know its called "wong" in chinese. can't miss the big chinese character

its not the best, but its pretty good. the best was this restaurant that was shut down on the corner of broadway and nanaimo, it was the best.....best i ever had

LemonT 07-29-2009 02:38 PM
