Totally true. I'd buy locally if the prices werent more than 10-30% over online... I like buying in store better, i get instant gratification...
But some stuff, online is just better. I kinda gambled on the shoe fitment tbh... I tried on one pair of shimano mtb shoes (belonged to my friend), and just went with the same sizing since we were same sized feet.
turned out 100% perfect.

I'd probably say its a hit or miss kinda thing with how customs taxes personal parcels... I'm gonna chalk it up to me being lucky
Just went out to do a groceries run on the bike with my new gear.
Cycling shoes.... WOW. What a difference... the power u can generate thru the whole pedal stroke... so different than riding on flats

All of my orders from Chainreaction were around $150 and I didn't have to pay. Perhaps you need to stay around that price range to be safe.
I also made a few orders from Nashbar. I'm not sure if this whole guarantee order totals in checkout is new, but my orders were over $200 and I paid at the door every time.

Yea, seems like it's random on how and when people get taxed... How many of you guys commute rain or shine?
I've been able to get away with riding with a 'water resistant' light weight shell since it hasn't rained very hard in the last few months. But when it pours, I start to get pretty wet sit the seams aren't taped.
Any of you guys invest in a nicer jacket?
I'm wondering if I should get a waterproof shell, or fork out the dough for a nicer jacket where it's got some thermal properties + completely waterproof... (example the Campagnolo jackets: Campagnolo Tech Motion - SPACEHAB Windproof Jacket SS12 | Buy Online | ChainReactionCycles.com )
I haven't riden in super cold rain, so it's hard to know how warm of a jacket / or how many layers i need

It's great and all, but you definitely don't get the adrenaline rush of ripping down a mountain on the edge of control. Well maybe when that parked car open's their door

Definitely mountain biker here, that's actually what got me into buying a road bike, training for improving on the mountain bike.

I bike quite a bit in the rain. MEC has decent shells for cycling.
I wear my North Face soft shell for my commute to work. Is simple/affordable and does its job. Quote:

Nice. Good too see some Mountain bikers. I started last month. Went to whislter for the first time last week. Had a blast. I got a 09 Kona dawg deluxegood starter bike, but I'd like something like lowside67
Debating on if I should get a Full Face helmet

Debating on if I should get a Full Face helmet | Fullface helmets are great if your going down hill ie: Whistler, North Shore. I found when doing XC and having to ride uphill, especially in summer, I was riding around with it on my bars most of the time  Its just too damn hot.

If you want to ride locally, you have 3 options - Cypress, Seymour, or Fromme. Seymour or Cypress you can shuttle (ie drive to the top), Fromme requires pedalling up which starts at the top of Mountain Highway. Cypress is probably too advanced for a noob, Seymour has a few more beginner trails, but Fromme is probably best.
