Just curious as to how many of you were (or currently) are involved with Cadets. From some of the threads it's clear we got quite a handful of ex/cadets on the forums.
Post up! I'll start
Unit: 655 Richmond (Air)
Aged out as WO2, in d.comm

111 Pegasus, resigned as SGT during Gr12 (would've gone to F/SGT because I was 2IC of my flight and the F/SGT was going to become 2IC of squadron).
Basic, Albert Head.
ITLC, Albert Head.
Survival Instructor, Cold Lake. So much fun!

dammit you did so many camps, I was going for glider and power...but my medical took longer than expected for glider, and for power I guess I just wasn't competetive enough...
I remember my CO reading out my qualifications when I aged out - read out the two camps I went to (Basic and ITAC) and tried to look for more words

Felt like the program worked, but how 111 carried it out at the time I was there just didn't seem very successful and at the time seemed like the least disciplined squadron in the area with a bunch of slackers.

i was a sgt then i got busy and never returned..this was age 16
if i were to do it again i'd try my best to go for my glider or power...and maybe stay until 18 so i can grab some scholarships before leaving/aging out
i did basic, band and itlc...my fucking squadron messed up my name with someone else cause i was supposed to be in itic instead of itlc. but getting paid $60 a week was pretty enticing for 13 year olds i guess?
i think your time in cadets you meet the biggest brown-noser/suck-ups and also overachievers in your life. then you go to camp in the middle of bum fuck alberta (penhold) and you meet these bizzare hicks and you live with them for 6 weeks. nevertheless still quite the experience.
my old squadron lost its parade location which is pretty sad...i think they are now in some dink elementary school gym.

It took me until my early 20s to realize that not all white people did things like skidmark competitions (not talking about cars here *cough*) or pooping into laundry machines. They really are a different breed. Even now people don't believe my stories when I tell them.
Looking back, if anything I wish I had learned to play the political game while there. I never tried sucking up and got screwed pretty badly as a result.
Oh, and for the record, if any of you are Chinese and got shoved into Air Cadets about 10 years ago because "your parents heard a guy promoting it on AM1470", that was my dad. You're welcome.

Now they have to leave by 9:30 or face fines. whereas at the armoury we had full access to half a wing of the building regardless of time
yeah and Camp lol. I got the PSP at Japanese launch and brought it with me to ITAC. We had some kids from interior Saskatchewan and some on the Maritimes. They had no idea asians ate beef and pork (they assumed we only ate fish), and also had no idea the PSP was actually out

I was in 759 RCACS about two years ago, had no time so I just basically disappeared, had lots of fun there though, all the outings and stuff.
I was only Corporal at that time, kind of regret not going anymore, I'd probably be a Flight Sargent now.

I'm chinese, but wanted to join Army Cadets after they came to my elementary school and did a presentation. I was the one pushing my parents to go, but they were the ones afraid about roughing it for a few days in the bush. but It's nice seeing more Chinese kids in the RCACc nowadays. 2290 BCR
Ended in 6 years. Aged out as a Sgt. and was squadron commander of recruit troop and administration.
Went to Vernon for Basic Band and CL Band. Did a lot of tours with the BCR and 15th Field Artillery Band rather than pursue military training. We were lucky because at one point, our CO was an officer with the BCRs so we did a lot of training with the BCRs on FTXs and they even taught us how to fire off the C7!
There were quite a few Asian kids in our unit and it helped especially with one of our officers who is Asian. Eventually he became CO of the Irish Fusiliers Cadet Corps (based out of Sherman Armouries.) It is an All-Asian unit and quite a large group. Most of the officers/support staff were former members of the Royal Hong Kong Regiment and the (now disbanded) Ghurka's.
Pursued becoming an officer with the 2290 BCRs after I aged out but I did not agree with the way the unit was being run so that was the end of my cadet/military career.
