2290 bcr good times but went out as SGT and squadron leader just before grade 12 because of school. the corp was bad in the later stages because people started leaving and we were becoming incredibly small so less funding and less outings. those outings in chilliwack were too awesome!!!
anyone remember summer thunder..the multi squadron survival-ex?
i remember i was only in cadets for a few months at the time and ended sleeping in rain-mud and cause' they didn't tell the noobs to bring the sleeping bag foam/mats. i thought we were gonna camp in tents..not half shelters!
i was so miserable for that entire long weekend..at least the imp was good

The new officers ran 2290 into the ground. That was a real shame hence why I left.

@ slammer111 I might been to A.I. With you but I'm not sure Posted via RS Mobile
The only other guy from BC in my year was from Elkford (279 Elk Valley RCACS). I was the only Chinese guy out of 93 in the program that summer. Everyone else was a whitie redneck (and I mean REDNECK). Do you match the description?
Ended in 6 years. Aged out as a Sgt. and was squadron commander of recruit troop and administration.
Went to Vernon for Basic Band and CL Band. Did a lot of tours with the BCR and 15th Field Artillery Band rather than pursue military training. We were lucky because at one point, our CO was an officer with the BCRs so we did a lot of training with the BCRs on FTXs and they even taught us how to fire off the C7!
There were quite a few Asian kids in our unit and it helped especially with one of our officers who is Asian. Eventually he became CO of the Irish Fusiliers Cadet Corps (based out of Sherman Armouries.) It is an All-Asian unit and quite a large group. Most of the officers/support staff were former members of the Royal Hong Kong Regiment and the (now disbanded) Ghurka's.
Pursued becoming an officer with the 2290 BCRs after I aged out but I did not agree with the way the unit was being run so that was the end of my cadet/military career.
Yeap, 2381 BCR Irish Fusiliers here. Also went on an FTX with you guys once where we got to fire the C7, it was so awesome.
I'm assuming the CO you were talking about is Gary Law?
I'm sorry but he totally f'd up the corp. Went on a crazy recruiting spree for the $$ that's why the corps is full of asians. Then basically just ran it to the ground. Promotions were being handed out like candy because of how large the corps got in such a short time.
I left as a WO at about 17, would've went all the way till I aged out but I was getting pretty pissed off and just couldn't take it anymore. Tried out reserves for a bit with the BCR's dt, but just wasn't my thing.
And to the other posters talking about camp lmao.. so true
You get these really hick white ppl from Alb/Sask and also your totally over the top brown nosers and try hards. So much politics involved and if you think about it, it's almost like brainwashing.. with all the crazy shit you're forced to do. But yea looking back now, it was a pretty good experience and I'm still glad I did it.
was in it for 6.5 years, ended off as MWO
CL 6 weeks,
CLI D+C 6 weeks,
Germany Exchange
Staff Cadet WO (Pl 2IC)
Staff Cadet MWO (Coy CSM)
Worked as an Officer for 4 years, on hiatus right now in London.
I'm chinese, but wanted to join Army Cadets after they came to my elementary school and did a presentation. I was the one pushing my parents to go, but they were the ones afraid about roughing it for a few days in the bush. but It's nice seeing more Chinese kids in the RCACc nowadays. Most coming from the big cities like Van/Calgary/Edmonton...
Obviously quite a few people here are much younger than a few of the oldies posting here....

Although the name sounds familiar, our CO was actually an officer of the BCRs so he had access to all the Regiment's facilities and resources. So to answer your question, no, it wasn't Gary Law.
I heard about the massive recruiting drive and how the money was "misused." It's a real shame because the Irish Fusiliers had a lot of potential to become a reall good unit alongside the BCRs but again, the new wave of officers ran it into the ground.

I have to admit, I always had this sick feeling in my stomach that 72nd Seaforth was a better unit. It took me a long time to finally pony up and to admit this.
Come to think of it, I was in CL Mil Band in 99! Small world!

Mina! how are things?
But ya, it was a great Unit. Things haven't been great there now, I was asked by the sponsoring committee if I was heading back after I come back from London, but I'm not sure at the moment.
Every Unit has it's ups and downs. I remember when my Unit had 20 cdts total strength, but I also remember a summer where 2 of the CSM's at VACC were from my Unit - which shows you that we had amazing leadership at the corps.
Of course, there are no longer any officers who are also officers with the affiliated regiment now. The entire program has changed a lot - for the better...? I mean, yes, I had tons of fun running around the bush, thinking that my NCO's swearing at me and making us drop and do 20 pushups made me hardcore... but I think that the way the current program is aiming for, kids can learn so much more. The only issue is that you still need strong leaders from both Officers and Cadets, so Corps who are lacking that will still do poorly. All it takes is a shitty Sec Comd, or a shitty Trg O and a Cadet will have the worse time on their life on an FTX and never come back.
Gars things are good man haha atleast there are a couple of army cadets in this bitch hahah i thought im gonna have to fight off these pidgeons for best cadets by my self hehehe man how i miss cadets best part of my life i'd say wish i could do it all over again prior to this whole chap shit hahaha
My AFC gave me an ABS CEL code of LOL while at WOT!
