KA24DE Air filter box question

Hi, I have a S14 kouki with stock KA24DE engine.

I recently cleaned my K&N air filter and put it back in, then realized that my stock air box.. the top cover and bottom cover do not completely touch.

I was wondering if this is normal, as the air filter does have some sorta gasket looking thing sticking out, or is the top and bottom cover of the air filter box suppose to touch when clipped on? Thanks.

PIC:

red line is in between the two sides of covers, black sides surrounding the actual filter can be seen

Tried fiddling around with it some more, still the same.. perhaps its something to do with the K&N drop in filter I have? Anyone else have any experience with this?

maybe the element isnt pushed all the way in, do you have an old regular filter? try to find one and compare the size of the element, especially the rubber/soft plastic around the actual element itself. maybe the sizing is a bit off. because if it isn't sealing tight from there you could be taking in dirty unfiltered air

there is a gaskget around the filter, it will force a seal, dont worry, you are not getting unregulated air

That, and it's not like the hole is big enough to cause a problem if something were to fly towards it.
