Did a Wash & Wax and further protected this 2014 Subaru Impreza with Opti Coat 2.0 today.

It took longer time for the coating to cure due to the freezing temperature but the end result is well worth the wait !

Did a headlight restoration on a 04 matrix with really bad oxidation. Have not been able to find a product that is able to completely seal the restoration in and make it last for more than a few months though. Anything you guys would recommend?

Looks good! I recently picked up some Gloss-Coat from Amazon in the states for $36USD so about $50 CAD. Can't wait to give it a go in the spring.

What product are you using to protect it now? If your customer isn't paying for them to be coated (Gloss coat, C Quartz, 22PLE, etc) then seal them with a sealant like menzerna powerlock or collinite 845.

That's a good price with Gloss coat. Is it 10 mm size?

Yea it is way too cold to do any thing now , got to wait till spring and start over the detailing project again ! lol

Right now I'm actually using a product that I compounded myself. Tried it on my own car and so far so good (been about 10 months). It is pretty expensive though, so I wanted to see if there is anything cheaper! Do the paint sealants like C Quartz or the Menzerna Powerlock actually prevent the oxidation for a long time?

Yeah it's the 10cc size. I've been told you can get two cars out of it.

They should. They both provide UV protection so they should prevent oxidation.

Clear coat. You have sanded off the UV protection when you restored the leses, to keep them that way you would need to re-apply the UV clear coat that was removed. Easy to do, just pick up a quality clear coat that resists UV light and have at-er.

I've thought about clear coat, but I have also heard some horror stories. It would definitely be the easiest way though. Just scared how clear coat will hold up against the constant heat provided by the headlights, won't that make it yellow quite quickly?

You need to get body shop quality clear coat. Lordco has 2k clear coat which works pretty well. However, it's bad for your lungs so make sure you spray in a well ventilated area and have respirator.

What's 2K clear coat? Is that like a DIY clear coat that's easy to apply by the average person?

Griot's Garage vs Porter Cable 7424XP Which ones do you guys like more. The Griot's garage atm is $154 while the porter cable is $147.

I bought my refurb 7424 for ~$100 locally. Haven't had any issues with it in the 20hrs+ of run time so far. Comes with 6 months warranty anyways.

I have both. They're both great machines. The PC was the one that basically started the whole DA trend. In today's time the PC is underpowered and isn't as smooth as the Griots. The Griots also has more power and will get the job done faster. Are your prices online from the states?

Sorry I didn't list where i found the deals.

The cheapest PC I found was Autogeek for 105USD + 20% off, + ($5 off, 3.5% cash back from couponcabin). But the shipping was $22 to Point Roberts. So roughly 140 CAD

Amazon has the Griot's garage for 153 CAD. I think I will go with the Griot I asked around the forums and everyone said its superior.

Yeah then I'd go with the griots. I would recommend getting a 5" backing plate for 5" pads. I find they're more versatile. If you need pads I'd suggest Buff and Shine Orange, Yellow, and Green, or WaxedShine's thin foam pads in Orange and Yellow. Cheers.

I would still suggest getting a 5" backing plate. As for pads, I'd suggest going to Alex @ Everything Car Care in Coquitlam. He has both microfiber and foam pads for a good price, no need to pay a ridiculous amount in the end with the exchange and shipping. He may even have 5" backing plates in stock too. I believe he is having a Christmas sale for 25% off, so pads would be around $6 CAD each.

EDIT: Checked with Alex, he has 5" plates in stock.

I just got a 7424xp from homedepot.com for 105 us total to pt roberts. Will Everything Car Care backing pads work with the PC? I believe they should be universal?

Did some researching and looks like ill need a 5' backing plate, 5' pads (cut, polish, and finishing?), a compound, a polish, and a wax. Anything im missing for some beginner swirl removing?

My Griot's Garage is coming in 2 days $160 Cad. Gotta load up on the plates and pads before they come.

Yep, their backing plate and pads will work just fine with your PC. Ask Alex at ECC about his compound and polishes he's been working on. He may have some bottled. If not I suggest keeping it simple with Meguiars' M105 and M205. They're a good combo. You could swap M105 out for M100 or D300 as M105 can dust.

That's a great price! The Griot's also comes with a lifetime warranty so keep your box if something was to go wrong, you can just put it back in and ship it off to Griot's in Tacoma, WA for repairs or replacement.
