Engagement gift

Is it customary to get someone an engagement gift?

I just found out yesterday that a close family member got engaged with a good family friend.

Don't really know the etiquette, as I don't know many people who get married, especially those that are close to me.

not usually. Usually the gifts are reserved for engagement parties, bridal showers, actual wedding, etc...

And that's the wedding gift.

My wife's cousin just got engaged recently, and, of course, there's a party to attend. Apparently, there's a registry? Yeah... fuck that shit. We'll give them our presence, and well wishes. There's still a bridal shower, where more gifts are expected, and then the wedding day. For the shower, I figure we'll get her a 12-inch black dildo, and hopefully not get invited to any more of those things.

I have never given an engagement gift nor received one. I think the consensus is, women have received the best gift, the gift of a man who will put up with her for 50 years then die happy knowing it won't continue. If anything, men should be getting the ring.

For your wedding gift you may want to find out what calibre wedding they are throwing.

The last wedding that I went to was open bar with a huge buffet, photo booth and all the bells and whistles on new years eve.

Personally, I would want to at least try to cover my own costs.
