Duty rates vary depending on the goods being purchased and the origin of those goods. In Canada, you only get charged duty/tax if the value of the items is over $20 cdn.

For example, if you purchased a $50 item and it had duty of 18% you would pay tax on the total after duty is applied.

$50(1.18) = $59
After 13% hst your total would be $66.67

Therefore, you would be required to pay around $16.67 in duties/taxes + any brokerage fees (usually 10-20 depending on the company).
