It's good for it's price to quality/quantity ration
it's run by chinese people, if that matters to you.
Order take out, don't do dine in. Takes FOREVER

Koto, Bone, Takeya, and Torarenbo (although I haven't been there in ages) are the acceptable, cheap places for Japanese in Richmond.
Ichiro, Sushi Hachi and Seto are a step up, along with that place on #5 and Cambie and at Garden City/Blundell...forget the names. Quote:

And don't get me started on AYCE. Unless you're in Vegas, buffet or AYCE isn't food.

They are, though. You might as well buy supermarket sushi. Some of that stuff is scary. I don't mean to offend you but those places aren't that much cheaper than good sushi either so why eat crap? It just encourages more generic Japanese restaurants which we don't need more of in Vancouver. A salmon scallop don at Bone is $5.99 or something. You can eat a mountain of stuff at Koto after 9:30 for $15.
Fucking Fresh Slice tho...sometimes when you're drunk and you see that goddamn pizza, you think "Oh, this time, maybe it'll be awesome..." because it's like $1.99 and it's 3am...
...but it never is. It's always terrible...like microwaved frozen pizza. It's not even bad in a good way, if you know what I mean.

Actually, I like the Fresh Slice in Fraser Heights. We've ordered from them a few times, and it's been fine each time.
Back on topic:
Has anyone tried Sushi Gio (by Colussus) or Noma (208 and 80) in Langley? How does it compare with Umami? The nigiri prices look really good.

Umami Sushi next to Wired Monk on 64th is our usual go to place. Sushi is fresh. I recommend ordering Salmon Skinnies. It's salmon tempura cut into strips. They're not on the menu.
We recently tried Sushi Gio on 88th. The prices are lower than Umami, and the quality is similar. Don't bother with the (farmed) salmon. Make sure to order the sockeye, instead. I load up on the toro when I go there. $2/piece!

Sushi avenue on 200 & 86th is good. The appetizer sashimi is big and really cheap. I thought they made a mistake the first time, ordered again and it was same size/price. Ordered it every time when I lived that way.

My brother-in-law and I tried out SushiCo for lunch, today. They're located next to Chapters in Langley. I put them through my usual nigiri run: toro, sockeye, saba, unagi and tai. Prices were moderate. However, the pieces of fish were big, and super fresh. My BIL really liked the saba, which he almost never does. The tai was decently tender. Their unagi was done really well. It was lightly torched, and marinated nicely. Good sauce, too. Their toro wasn't as tender as I'm used to, but the size and freshness made up for that.
Will definitely be back, at some point.

Hiraku sushi at the top of coast meridian. Small, but I thought it was pretty good for port coquitlam.
The hiraku roll is delicious. Just make sure you ask for no asparagus.

Anyone tried the place that opened up in Lansdowne? The Urbanspoon reviews are horrendous so far. My cousin told me about it and said they have a $100+ omakase menu, passing off fairly regular ingredients as "premium".
